I like this version but Nazareth was the first group I heard sing this song so naturally i'm going to like it more , i can hear the pain in Nazareth's version, i mean love hurts, it shouldnt sound all happy go lucky like joan jetts version
Personally, I like the Nazareth version of this song, but the Everly Brothers got it right and Roy Orbison's version is not that far off from the original. If you notice, Nazareth changed the wording. They used the word "flame" instead of "stove" which doesn't make any sense. A flame is always hot while a stove is only hot when it's turned on. Sorry Nazareth, but you shoulda kept the original lyrics. It just makes more sense that way.
Believe it or not I never heard the Naz version of this song but after all the positive comments about Naz's version I will download it and check it out. I have heard it done by others but I always associate this song with the everly bros.
@gnatsum64 --I agree it doesn't make sense, but in defense of the change, 'love is like a stove' is kind of a mundane simile. Someone needs to come up with a third option.
@gnatsum64: I think "flame" makes more sense than "stove" in the following context: "Love is like a flame that burns you when it [the love] is hot". Love is hot when there's full of passion in it; love is dying when it becomes colder and more indifferent. Also, "flame" evokes more emotion than "stove"; you can feel the pain in "flame".
This version is a cover sung by the person posting the video as he states in the notes for the video. The original Everly version can be found on Youtube right now but it is rarely found as it is usually pulled.
Love Hurts Nazareth???? No not that one... How about Roy Orbison or Gram Parsons? It was written and composed by Boudleaux Bryant. I think this was recorded in 1960 here.
"Love Hurts" is nowadays normally associated with Nazareth. But already in 1960 the Everly Brothers sang the original version of this song. The song was sung so softly and gently, that you have to listen to it twice to recognize, that it is the same song that Nazareth covered 16 years later.
But here in my opinion the heavy style of Nazareth fits much better to this song.
YES! I totally agree. I have listened to many great singers cover this song, but no one can raise the goosebumps on my arms like NAZ. The ultimate version! I think yr asssessment of their "heavy" style has merit, but also I believe it's the timbre of his great rocker voice! I think Ozzie could do a great version also, what do you think?
I was a big big fan of Roy Orbison..Oobey Doobey was his 1st hit and I still play that record to this day..have it on my mp3 player. And in no way did I or could I compare my version to Roys. Thanks for the comment.
I think you did a good job singing the song but all of the pics sort of imply that this is the Everly Brothers singing. Some folks not familiar with the Brothers viewing this might be confused. I think you should make it clearer that this is you covering the unmatched Brothers.
I Really can not imagine any one thinking that . But I took your suggestion and did as you suggested. it now read "my cover version of the Everly Brothers hit "Love Hurts"
Your sure right on that. But if you want I can post it on youtube and you can downloaded from my youtube site. Or send you a link to the song and you can download it from there.
i maybe biased b'coz i teen aged in the 80's, i still love the Naz's version.. its kinda rock but delivered damn serious...sorry original..
