Why is everyone so obsessed with the idea that he was going to rape Arwen? Sauron is threatening Arwen's life, not her virginity... He is showing her dead to demoralize Aragorn. I mean, what the hell? Do you reallt think that Elrond or Arwen would let that happen? Hell no! Elrond would kill her himself if he had to.
The point of this is that Aragorn wanted to bait Sauron and distract him, what he didn't realise is that Sauron is far more intelligent than that, and showed him just how much he knew of Aragorn, threatening him with Arwen's death.
Right after he holds up the sword and makes the statement, there's something in the eye just before the other vision. I can't make out what it is, what is that? Almost looks like Sauron or something else. Does anyone know?
Sauron: Allo! Who ees eet? Aragorn: It is I, Aragorn son of Arathorn, heir of Isildur... Sauron: YOU DON'T FRIGHTEN ME, DUNEDAIN PIGDOG! I FART IN YOUR GENERAL DIRECTION! YOUR MOTHER WAS A DUNLENDING AND YOUR FATHER SMELT OF PIPE-WEED!

@HerrMurphster no... these are ADAPTATIONS, not 100% accurate translations, so get over it.no one else on the planet could have done a better job than Jackson.
Why did they take this out? It clearly shows the actual happening when Aragorn drops the pendant. Which was also shown as a vision in one of the earlier movies.
@kaffekoppteiskrem hes speaking in the Black Speach of Mordor. its a twisted language he created for his own designs. you can hear Gandalf use it at the Council of Elrond in the extended edition
@fuzzynippleman Well as you know Hollywood feels it must dumb down every story so the average Mcdonalds eating , depends wearer can understand the story or be intrigued long enough to sit still for 3 hours without wanting to start playing with the hair on their toes.
@fuzzynippleman and they deleted it from the theatrical version, yes it's in the extended edition. But then again in the books there is a confrontation, no mention of the staff breaking though. Yeah, that part didnt really make sense, nor did the sudden disappearance of the Fellowship's horses in the final battle against Sauron. Or Shelob stabbing frodo through mithril. But they're small nitpicky parts to the movie.
@Tmartin1438 WQouldn't it have been cooler if it had happened like it did in the books, where he actually made Sauron his bitch, because he's, you know, the FUCKING KING. In the films, Our hero's more like a pussy, and this scene's kinda a perfect example of that. Jackson making shit up=a crappier movie.
@Tmartin1438 peter jackson changed a lot in the movies compared to the books. not saying it was a mistake he did that, he did a good job in adapting them to motion pictures
@cannabisour definitely, especially watching the Appendices in the DVD's and seeing how much effort they put into the sets, acting, and music for the film. They had to add some stuff to appease the studios (more Arwen and love scenes for the ladies) and make it for a general audience who haven't read the books, since the movie needed to make back the $500 million it cost to produce.
I hate how Arwen-centric his quest is in the movies.....it just takes the whole "fight-for-freedom-and-your-people" and throws it in the dumpster. I only like the Fellowship of the Ring, the most faithful to the books.
@Arcanon792 I loved the movies, but I know what you mean, one of the only things I didn't like was the gratuitous Arwen. I think they decided to put her in more partially to add backstory for Aragorn, but also to add some gender diversity to a story with almost all male characters. At least they didn't add Arwen in Helm's Deep, they were thinking about adding her there. I did like how Elrond gave Aragorn Anduril in ROTK, but they didn't need the "Arwen is dying" subplot.
@Tmartin1438 i always interpetated it as Arwen is dying because she was now a mortal, so if Aragorn lost the war, Arwen would die with them and not be able to sail to the west with her people. " Arwens fate is now tied to the fate of the ring"
Palaint's sry if I spelled it wrong but I'll just call it a seeing stone or magical orbs I think there maid from the barks of ents or other ancient magic in midlearth but saroun the eye has one in his tower which alows him to seek out anyone he wishes to see it is also how saroman and him communicate the ring however is different since it is how he assumes physical form it searches for him by poisoning the mind of the holder whispering what the holder wants to hear as if the fall in love with t
Sorry, I'm trying to get more into LOTR (i will read Silmarillion soon) but could someone explain to me how palantir's work? or at least how Sauron knew about arwen?
A Palantir is basically a crystal ball - one of seven, of some unknown but unbreakable substance, for seeing things from a great distance. They were thousands of years old by the time of the War of the Ring, and were made by the Elves for Aragorn's ancestors, long before they came to Middle Earth
Imagine if Palantirs could be used for video-conferencing - that was one of their purposes, as the books explain.
Sauron could have known about Arwen in a number of ways - though whether he did, the book does not say: she is not mentioned in the episode in which Aragorn wrests the Palantir back from Sauron. All that is said is, that Aragorn wrestled in thought with Sauron by using it - this follows a description of how one of the hobbits sneaked a look in it, which is described in some detail; but Arwen is not mentioned then either
I believe in the book, sauron shows aragorn what would happen if he were to be defeated and then he says the famous "for frodo" and I think that would' ve been better,
I mean, Jesus Christ, the movie was almost perfect. Each scene, each footage was advanced. But this transition with the last men's army is a bit disappointing.
@krvl1 it happened right exactly after aragorn's plans to withdraw mordor armies into making frodo go safely to mount doon, if you watch the extended edition you will find it
When the jewel falls there's the chain attached to it, when it hits the floor and breaks, the chain is gone. And also: how could it fall from Aragorn's neck?
@Makkaratehdass most likely the chain dissapearance is a transition error does not make sense in any way. was that his neck? i think it was his hand. he most likely was like "hey im so sad my girls gone, im gonna drop this cuz she deadddz!".
@Alexplus20 It represents the love and immortality of Arwen. In the book it doesn't exist in the same way, but I guess they wanted to make it more visible in the film. It doesn't contain her immorality, but it is a symbol of it
@ATMofAnubis It is!!! OMG great eye for detail man, i never even spotted that! Indeed if u look closely u see sauron raising a fireball or something thx man!
@ToaPice Oh...never saw that one coming lol...you know I really should learn this stuff...to be fair though - I haven't read the books, so if that info is in them...that's why I don't know XD
@Albertross21 More precisely : You must get back to the first four great Kings of the Elves to have blood ties between Arwen and Legolas, whereas Elrond's brother is Aragorn's ancestor.
Hmm, that necklace withstood countless brawls with orcs, battle, jumping, falls, rolling, dodging, weigt and A LOT of sword fighting, yet as soon as he drops it on the floor, it shatters into a billion pieces -________________-
Actually i think that this combined with the dream he had made him think Arwen was dead, that he was too late. The breaking of the necklace seemed to be a symbol of that, which explains the shift in his character when he is riding out to Mordor and the whole beheading scene as well. Aragorn has virtually no hope for himself (cause his reason is gone) and less patience for bullshit. Viggo is amaaaaaaazing.
@Aslara Yeah... I like to tell myself they ment Arwen has now become a mortal and therefore her fate is bound to Middle-Earth: it the war is lost, she can't escape into Valinor anymore blah blah.
It wasn't the ring itself that was the issue with Arwen. It was Sauron's power in general and those of other evil creatures that was making her weak. Kind of like blocking out the sun with thick storm-clouds. The more you add, the dimmer it gets underneath them.
LOL fail by aragorn hes like ehh Behold the sword of alandil or whateva and sauron shows arwen dead.mannn sauron fucks shit up thru orbs aswell, he must be pretty powerful!
Yes, Sauron couldn't shapeshift, but it would be wrong to assume that because he looks like a demonic knight his physical strength would be greater than his magic. He wasn't Melkor's lieutenant for nothing. Are you referring to the battle in which he lost it or the one against Aragorn's forces? In the case of the latter, Sauron realized what was going on and sent the Nazgul to get it. He would have gotten it too if Gollum hadn't have fallen into the lava with the Ring before they could arrive.

@ToaPice Oh...never saw that one coming lol...you know I really should learn this stuff...to be fair though - I haven't read the books, so if that info is in them...that's why I don't know XD

@Albertross21 xD You should, or read off it at wikipedia:p Its pretty amuzing:p
ToaPice 7 months ago

That was one breakable necklace.

Sauron doesn't even have a physical body and he still manages to kick half of the main character's asses throughout all three movies.

i read somewhere that peter jackson filmed sauron in a human shape fighting aragorn at the black gates, does anybody know something more about this?!
jovicans 8 months ago
@jovicans yeah it was. But then they thought that this would go off the real story by miles, so they changed Sauron's skin to that troll Olog-hai
keturiosakyss 8 months ago
@keturiosakyss
thank you, is there maybe a video of the fight with sauron somewhere, i searched for it, but couldn't find it?!
jovicans 8 months ago
@jovicans As I said before they put comp.generated troll over Sauron, so that means they haven't published the fight between Aragorn and Sauron :)

I think it was too much to tie Arwen`s wellness with the Ring.:(

@Aslara Yeah... I like to tell myself they ment Arwen has now become a mortal and therefore her fate is bound to Middle-Earth: it the war is lost, she can't escape into Valinor anymore blah blah.
Feanorielle 8 months ago
@Aslara yeah true, in the whole book the arwen-aragorn story isnt that impressive
ToaPice 7 months ago
@Aslara Doesn't make any sense to me x(

@Aslara
It wasn't the ring itself that was the issue with Arwen. It was Sauron's power in general and those of other evil creatures that was making her weak. Kind of like blocking out the sun with thick storm-clouds. The more you add, the dimmer it gets underneath them.
