Jeff Mills was and is so far ahead of his time, it's ridiculous.

I have had the pleasure to see him live 3 times, and each time was just as good or better than the last. He's the only techno DJ/producer that I have seen where the promoter gets the equipment to match Jeff's style: 3 decks, a Vestax mixer and a TR-909.

I felt sorry for any of the DJ's that had to follow up after his set.

I've seen Magda and Hawtin thrice in the last 12 months. I found them rather boring.

What I find incredible about Jeff Mills is... when you listen to his mix sets back in the 80ies (the wizard on mojo's show, highly recommended)... he already has the same style, same groove. He must have been born with these skills.

In his prime here. He has his critics but, who else can produce and perform a set consisting of an almost 50/50 split of personal and other material and pull it off ? Who else has forged one of the most prolific and successful techno labels of all time ? This guy does it from concept to finsihed article i.e from start to finish. He is an innovator, a creator and a performer. I saw him live in 96 at the Arena in Glasgow and the set was virtually identical. then and now he continues to be awesome.

Strange. That's not a recording of the Liquid Room mix. That video might be from the Liquid Room, and I'm pretty sure he played that track in that mix, but that's not the recording. For one thing, the crowd noise is constant in that mix, it doesn't get faded out after the thing starts. For another, that mix begins with tons of cuts and back and forth mixing. This is just a straight track.
