R.I.P Carl, you have gone back home to the cosmos to become one of the brightest stars to shine in the heavens... From where we all came from in the first place.
Makes me wonder, if humans as a species can´t dramatically change their thinking and behavior, would we do the universe a favor by choosing to become extinct?
sagan sounds quite optimistic lol...personally i don't see us getting off this hunk of rock before a major population reduction/cataclysm on par with what wiped out the dinosaurs.
Hey, Tom? You think we'll make it out there? 20 or 30 years ago, I would have believed we might turn ourselves around, dust ourselves off and grow up. But the way things are going, and at what looks like a geometric rate, I don't really know if we can survive the rest of this century, let alone visit space.

Fucking beautiful and truly spiritual (a dangerous term), its a great shame that so many cannot find contentment in the magic of reality, the poetry of existence. That people can say "I cant believe THIS is all we have", they have no idea what THIS really is.
Its such a tradgedy that so many peoples quest for contentment lands them in a pile of redjudice and divisive dogma, this condition does demand a cure and that cure is knowledge, its our niche, what makes our species special.
"We are an adaptable species." More of our strengths, less of our weaknesses. Knowing that helping others is more useful than condemning them. We're talking here about our potential. Like Mr. Sagan said, reaching this extraordinary potential that is within our grasp requires metaphorical river crossings. Having the courage to stand firm against a strong current that would like nothing more than to sweep us out to sea. Possessing the true wealth by lending hands instead of slapping them.

A question for atheists. In a world where there's no proof of God's existence or of life after death; how will you explain to your children why you brought them into the world and why they should die?
@QuestionForAtheists Watch Great Minds: Richard Dawkins- We are going to die. Makes me feel very grateful and not so greedy to yearn for eternal life everytime I watch it. May you find happiness and really understand good morality before you pass from this world.
@QuestionForAtheists Because that's how it is, that's how things work, all animals work to proliferate their genes, without the influence of religious people, children wont be ingrained with this idea that we are somehow special and have to have a divine purpose, they will learn, they will be taught to work to further the positive progress of humanity, to leave something good for their children. Its not a question of god or nothing, atheists don't see themselves as devoid of meaning.
@QuestionForAtheists I would start with the truth, maybe. Go from there. Don't indoctrinate them with fairy tales, though. People are biologically driven to create children because of evolution. Also, as a Christian, why have kids? Why take a soul away from god and bring it to earth where it can suffer for 75 years before maybe getting to go back? cruel.

@MissPraecipua I have a video "Michio Kaku Deceptive Transhumanist Agenda"
/watch?v=5tcigdvlM4E
5 likes, 11 dislikes, people WANT to merge with machines? That is madness! Science needs to draw a line in the sand! The excuse for trans humanism is: live longer, be smarter, merge with computers. Michi Kaku says in the video that if robots get out of hand you just turn their chip off! You can also turn off a "chip" in a human who merges with computers!

@alessan If one considers the antonym of dysgenics (ie 'eugenics') then one might reasonably see the fallacy of such a statement. bAsically a bankrupt, dead end study that's(generally) fueled by a pessimistic point-of-view. At least from this reader's perspective.
The Comment that was never meant to be heard by the public: My recollection is that Hynek said it was backstage of one of the many Johnny Carson Tonight shows Sagan did. Sagan basically said [to Hynek] in 1984, "I know UFOs are real, but I would not risk my research [College] funding, as you do, to talk openly about them in public.' " - MJ12Dave (Is it not time to finally be honest with the public?)
@theSasss It is inaccurate to pin the blame solely on Islam as all religions are part of the problem. The depth of human ignorance in the world today is truly astounding and is prevalent in all nations and races, ranging from belief in the supernatural to support for alternative medicine. You say the west has become secular but can you not see the impact of religion on the politics of the USA or the push by American fundamentalist Christians to have creationism taught in schools as fact
@cponeill But is it inaccurate to say Islam, and really ALL religion isn't part of the problem, that it isn't part of what is holding us back as a species? I don't think so. You talk of human ignorance and seem to think religion, your religion, has nothing to do with it, sir, do you know what irony is?
@YellowNumberFive I do not have a religion and I fail to see how my previous comment suggested that I had a religion and was making an exception for it. Any belief system, be it religious or otherwise, that promotes irrational thought and unsubstantiated dogma, is a barrier to the true understanding that can only be obtained by scientific endeavour.
@sherifhysa that would actually be incredibly helpful considering that over 1.5 billion people own a t.v., hundreds of millions of people listen to the radio, and about 365 million people own a computer

What an amazing video from an amazing man. I am in awe. I truly feel that the biggest obstacle to reaching this objective is Islam. Western societies have advanced and secularized but Islam - keeps people's down, ignorant, and societies backwards. Christianity will continue to dissipate; but Islam with a nuclear weapon is a dangerous proposition.
Who is this man - Carl Sagan? It was so apropos when he said it will not be we who will reach Alpha Centauri....it is too bad this great mind never lived to see the new Millenium. Good bye my friend! Should we humans ever find our way, we shall see you again - in that other world!
You know what's really sad ? People often fail to see our accomplishments as a species, and end up criticizing our society, seeing defects that sometimes aren't even real . While criticism is indeed constructive, please stop for a second, and try to see the beauty in humanity as it is. Please end this hatred towards politics, religion and common issues for a second and try to 'comprehend' the beauty and complexity of our society even though it may just blow your mind.
I'm a European. F*** Europe. I'm a Briton. F*** Britain. More specifically, I'm an Englishman. F*** England. Yet more specifically, I'm an East Midlander. F*** the East Midlands. Yet more specifically, I'm a Derbyshirean. F*** Derbyshire.
Can we please abandon these artificial borders? I want to see our species reach further into space, not see the UK expand its borders. I know the universe will end one day, I just want to know that we will explore as much as we can before it does.
@youvexme Makes me sad too youvexme. In the past I have tried to understand people of a religious bent and why we humans need more than what is obviously right in front of our eyes; the beauty and wonder of a complex universe and the endless and exciting possibilities for knowledge. I can't fathom why some people prefer wishing on a star rather than learning about them.
Even if we do manage to colonise worlds beyond the solar system before an asteroid hits, a supervolcano goes off, we wipe eachother out with nuclear weapons or whatever else, what guarentee is there at all that we will be a unified species?
Why should a colonist on a different planet view Earth any differently than colonists in North America viewed Britain, or colonists in South America viewed Spain? Doesn't this reek of wishful thinking to anyone else?
@sherifhysa People would not be persuaded even by such Words; they need to be soften up before the message can be received.
Evolution is still with us, but ours will be artificial - by our own hand, if we choose to do so, there is no alternative: whether by consent or conquest it will be done.
It was because of Carl, I am inspired to venture into science. My personal interest in the Medical Sciences. Can't wait to go back to school to study Pharmacy
this makes you think what it means to be human what it means to have our humanity and it makes us think of how far we have come and how far we will reach how far we will succeed although almost all of us have lost our humanity there are a few who still know what it means to live in reality of what it means to be human those people will be the ones who leads the rest of us to greatness (like carl) those people are the ones who will be remembered who will be honored by our future generations.
,now people think honer is texting and buying the big tv,ask everyone you know and you will see bearly anyone votes and this is why we are in a sorry state. out of americans registered to vote just think how many of them registered forget to vote but all corrupt people vote because they understand this and want power and trust me they never fail to vote! they say 67% of americans are registered to vote, ask 30 people you know and you will find out not even 30% of them vote,do the math
This is a load of crap..Sounds nice, nice images, but bullshit. How is there going to be a species evolved from us when we are eliminating all natural selection necessary to that? What makes him think we will all of a sudden change? And its pretty egocentric to think humans should conquer the world let alone the solar system anyway. We are destroying the world and ecosystems we belong to by believing we "rule" them. And its pronounced Humans, not Umans .....
Biblical creation is the only consistent and reliable truth that has stood the test of time. In the evolutionary world view there are 3 things that evolutionist CAN'T account for they are 1. Laws of logic 2. Uniformity in nature 3. Absolute morality. They only exist if the God of the Bible is the Creator and by you using them in your daily life simply states that you are created not evolved. Please answer if you had to put a percentage on your disbelief in God What would it be?
@brajamtho757 Perhaps our morality is nothing more than fairness.. Did you make that up yourself? Like I said evolution and other worldviews cannot logically account for these 3 things and biblical creation can all an evolutionist can do is surmise and hypothesize. If human beings were merely the out workings of millions of years of mindless chemical processes, then why should we hold to a universal code of behavior? Could there really be such concepts as right and wrong if evolution were true?
@Genesis1GodCreated He should have known that the bible will be plagiarized & that it's not adequate. He should have appeared in modern ages. So documentation is done properly. Better yet. Why not just show up like he did in the bible?! If he's loving he shouldn't allow random deaths like those tsunamis in japan. If he truly wants us to love him in return. Why did he create us in a way that we cannot communicate with him physically or mentally? So it means we are unique but insignificant.
@Genesis1GodCreated don't tell me prayers makes up for it. Because it simply cannot. If you want to delude yourself then go ahead. I'm done talking to my imaginary friend when I reached 7 years old. We are not asking you to take our word for it. That's what religious people do. We are asking you to look at the evidence and verify them yourself. Use critical thinking and don't be bias.
@bebeLUVnardo Never in the Bible do you ever see God repairing a heart, a new one is always given. Receive what God has for you today don’t wait any longer. Believe me I've looked at the evidences and there is none that is compelling. Jesus died so we could have a relationship with God it's not a religion it's a relationship. I'm speaking for true biblical Christianity. Once you have met with God like i have there is nothing to go back to.
@Genesis1GodCreated Nice poetic CRAP. You can't even asnwer my question one by one! Jesus died and has risen after 3 day. That voids his sacrifice you know! I would agree to do exactly all jesus did in his entire life. I'll even do it 100x if you want. You know why? Because I will be dead only for 3 days then I will be immortal and go straight to heaven. Pretty neat huh? Grow up and live a legit life. You will find it more rewarding done wasting your life looking forward to nothing.
@Genesis1GodCreated You sure you looked at the evidence? Nothing was compelling? Relationship? Oh snap..If you really know and understood the evidence. You won't be replying to me like what you just did right now. Religious people have lost logic and reason. What a shame. What a shame that your even a human..What a waste..Nevermind. Good luck!
@Genesis1GodCreated Shown by humans there is a lot more wrong then right. But the fundamental "right and wrong" simply comes in nature. A mother buffalo will protect its young not because the bible said so, but because she knows that the future of the species relies on survival. If she does not protect her young, the species could no longer fluorish. As humans,we have evolved to the point where we can understand anothers pain. We have evolved the mind capacity to understand when something is hurt.
But such a view makes morals arbitrary. Who are you to say that my murdering every child I have after my second one is immoral? After all, our context is not the same as our evolutionary ancestors. Whereas they fought to populate the Earth, today we struggle with overpopulation. Therefore, in light of this, my "moral" population control seems entirely justifiable; indeed, it would benefit the species. Who are you to say that my new found "morals" are not the next step in Evolution?
@coopmuch56 "A mother buffalo will protect its young not because the bible said so, but because she knows that the future of the species relies on survival."
I think you're anthropomorphizing the mother buffalo here. There's no reason to think that buffaloes understand something as abstract as the future. They _might_ understand the idea of species.
@airandfingers She wants her young to survive, so she protects them, protect them so they can live into the future. How is that anthropomorphizing the mother buffalo?
"She wants her young to survive, so she protects them" Sure.
"protect them so they can live into the future." Here I interpret "so" as an assignment of a motive to the buffalo. I don't think there's evidence to support the claim that buffaloes possess the capability for the kind of abstract thought necessary for having desires about the future, and that, in the absence of such evidence, assigning them such a human characteristic is anthropomorphic.
@airandfingers surviving IS living into the future, if the buffalo did not want its young to live into the future SHE WOULD NOT PROTECT THEM! What is so hard to understand about that? Living one day longer is still living into the future.
Wanting your child to live a day more into the future is different from wanting your child to "live into the future" - if not in kind, than in measure.
Your original quote: "A mother buffalo will protect its young not because the bible said so, but because she knows that the future of the species relies on survival."
Wanting your _species_ to survive is different from both - again, if not in kind, than in measure.
We can objectively observe that buffaloes want their offspring to live to the next day. It's a bit trickier to observe whether buffaloes care about their offspring "living into the future" (depending on the timescale) and very difficult to determine whether they _know_ or _want_ anything regarding the future of their species.
Why? Because most actions don't have much impact on the overall
I want this video on my 3660 unit.

knew anything, anything is possible.

Science should not allow genetically modified

Dysgenics say that if that happens, Homo Novus will be leaving behind it what has become the predominant species; Homo Retardus.

Sagan basically said [to Hynek] in 1984, "I know UFOs are real, but I would not risk my research [College] funding, as you do, to talk openly about them in public.' @theSasss It is inaccurate to pin the blame solely on Islam as all religions are part of the problem. The depth of human ignorance in the world today is truly astounding and is prevalent in all nations and races, ranging from belief in the supernatural to support for alternative medicine. You say the west has become secular but can you not see the impact of religion on the politics of the USA or the push by American fundamentalist Christians to have creationism taught in schools as fact
cponeill 7 months ago 4
@cponeill But is it inaccurate to say Islam, and really ALL religion isn't part of the problem, that it isn't part of what is holding us back as a species? I don't think so. You talk of human ignorance and seem to think religion, your religion, has nothing to do with it, sir, do you know what irony is?
YellowNumberFive 7 months ago
@YellowNumberFive I do not have a religion and I fail to see how my previous comment suggested that I had a religion and was making an exception for it. Any belief system, be it religious or otherwise, that promotes irrational thought and unsubstantiated dogma, is a barrier to the true understanding that can only be obtained by scientific endeavour.

Can we please abandon these artificial borders? I want to see our species reach further into space, not see the UK expand its borders. I know the universe will end one day, I just want to know that we will explore as much as we can before it does.

This is what will happen to the Earth's population,
it will have wars
A famine
nuclear war
Total destruction like the dinosaurs with a small population left which could start over or become barbaric.
But thats what I think
I think that the human race could do much better than today and one day be so great, it will be the envy of every civilization in the galaxy.

Genesis1GodCreated 10 months ago
@Genesis1GodCreated
Endurance of belief is not evidence of the truth of that belief.
Laws of logic require no creator. How would you prove otherwise?
Uniformity in nature requires no creator. How would you prove otherwise?
Absolute morality does not necessarily exist. Perhaps our morality is nothing more than the concept of fairness.
brajamtho757 10 months ago
@brajamtho757 Perhaps our morality is nothing more than fairness.. Did you make that up yourself? Like I said evolution and other worldviews cannot logically account for these 3 things and biblical creation can all an evolutionist can do is surmise and hypothesize. If human beings were merely the out workings of millions of years of mindless chemical processes, then why should we hold to a universal code of behavior? Could there really be such concepts as right and wrong if evolution were true?
Genesis1GodCreated 10 months ago
@Genesis1GodCreated The mindless chemical reactions possily made the mindful, beautiful.
JayDee98765 10 months ago
@Genesis1GodCreated
So you won't attempt to prove otherwise, as I asked you to? I can only imagine why.
brajamtho757 10 months ago
@Genesis1GodCreated He should have known that the bible will be plagiarized & that it's not adequate. He should have appeared in modern ages. So documentation is done properly. Better yet. Why not just show up like he did in the bible?! If he's loving he shouldn't allow random deaths like those tsunamis in japan. If he truly wants us to love him in return. Why did he create us in a way that we cannot communicate with him physically or mentally? So it means we are unique but insignificant.
bebeLUVnardo 10 months ago
@Genesis1GodCreated don't tell me prayers makes up for it. Because it simply cannot. If you want to delude yourself then go ahead. I'm done talking to my imaginary friend when I reached 7 years old. We are not asking you to take our word for it. That's what religious people do. We are asking you to look at the evidence and verify them yourself. Use critical thinking and don't be bias.
bebeLUVnardo 10 months ago
@bebeLUVnardo Never in the Bible do you ever see God repairing a heart, a new one is always given. Receive what God has for you today don’t wait any longer. Believe me I've looked at the evidences and there is none that is compelling. Jesus died so we could have a relationship with God it's not a religion it's a relationship. I'm speaking for true biblical Christianity. Once you have met with God like i have there is nothing to go back to.
Genesis1GodCreated 10 months ago
@Genesis1GodCreated Nice poetic CRAP. You can't even asnwer my question one by one! Jesus died and has risen after 3 day. That voids his sacrifice you know! I would agree to do exactly all jesus did in his entire life. I'll even do it 100x if you want. You know why? Because I will be dead only for 3 days then I will be immortal and go straight to heaven. Pretty neat huh? Grow up and live a legit life. You will find it more rewarding done wasting your life looking forward to nothing.
bebeLUVnardo 10 months ago
@Genesis1GodCreated You sure you looked at the evidence? Nothing was compelling? Relationship? Oh snap..If you really know and understood the evidence. You won't be replying to me like what you just did right now. Religious people have lost logic and reason. What a shame. What a shame that your even a human..What a waste..Nevermind. Good luck!
bebeLUVnardo 10 months ago 2
@Genesis1GodCreated Shown by humans there is a lot more wrong then right. But the fundamental "right and wrong" simply comes in nature. A mother buffalo will protect its young not because the bible said so, but because she knows that the future of the species relies on survival. If she does not protect her young, the species could no longer fluorish. As humans,we have evolved to the point where we can understand anothers pain. We have evolved the mind capacity to understand when something is hurt.
coopmuch56 9 months ago 35
@coopmuch56
-
But such a view makes morals arbitrary.
AgApE010 8 months ago
@coopmuch56 "A mother buffalo will protect its young not because the bible said so, but because she knows that the future of the species relies on survival."
I think you're anthropomorphizing the mother buffalo here. There's no reason to think that buffaloes understand something as abstract as the future. They _might_ understand the idea of species.
airandfingers 8 months ago
@airandfingers She wants her young to survive, so she protects them, protect them so they can live into the future. How is that anthropomorphizing the mother buffalo?
coopmuch56 8 months ago
@coopmuch56
I'll show you how.
"She wants her young to survive, so she protects them" Sure.
"protect them so they can live into the future." Here I interpret "so" as an assignment of a motive to the buffalo. I don't think there's evidence to support the claim that buffaloes possess the capability for the kind of abstract thought necessary for having desires about the future, and that, in the absence of such evidence, assigning them such a human characteristic is anthropomorphic.
airandfingers 8 months ago
@airandfingers surviving IS living into the future, if the buffalo did not want its young to live into the future SHE WOULD NOT PROTECT THEM! What is so hard to understand about that? Living one day longer is still living into the future.
coopmuch56 8 months ago
@coopmuch56
Wanting your child to live a day more into the future is different from wanting your child to "live into the future" - if not in kind, than in measure.
Your original quote: "A mother buffalo will protect its young not because the bible said so, but because she knows that the future of the species relies on survival."
Wanting your _species_ to survive is different from both - again, if not in kind, than in measure.
airandfingers 8 months ago
@coopmuch56
