  • @thejmsfreak Thank you. :)

  • Favorited!

  • @trumbachd1 Thank you. :)

  • Did you use an effect pedal?????

  • @Michaeltheremin The only device used was a Digiverb for a very small amount of reverb. Nothing else was used.

  • this is amazing.. you really make this remarkable instrument sound like a being of flesh and blood howling its despair onto us

  • the background ambiance reminds me of a role playing game by the name of rune-scape?

  • @drescora Cool. :) I'll have to check that game out. Happy holidays, by the way. :)

  • A Ghost Playing A Theremin. cool

  • @jameycolon Thanks. ;)

  • After learning about the theremin, I stumbled upon your videos and I must say this is incredible. To play something like this is just... well, suffice it to say I could never do it. You truly are amazing.

  • @ThatPolishKid666 Thank you for the kind words. I do hope that you at least get a chance to try a theremin someday. :)

  • I want a Theremin. You know what I'd do if I had one? I'd mic it into a guitar amp and add affects. Or hook up the mic to a wha wha pedal, and have the pedal go into the amp. Ever experiement like that?

  • @LedWilde Yes, I have done this. Check my video, JHS Mods Synth Drive Demonstration. Also, check out youtube user, lothars for a video called Theremin Killed The Radio Star. He did a cover with his theremin, and added a wah pedel to it.

  • @ThomasGrillo Awesome. I'll check that stuff out. Thanks.

  • @LedWilde Cool. :)

  • Great job, Thomas, love all your playing, so inspiring.

  • @julie1367 Thanks. :)

  • I'd love to transcribe your music to paper -- i do it all the time for my stuff. It's like a puzzle. At any rate -- you've got an excellent sense of pitch. Rock on! ;)

  • @ThereminWeirdo Thanks for the kind words. Visit my channel, and send me contact info, and we'll see what can be done in the way of transcription. I have a friend working on some of my stuff already, but it couldn't hurt to have a second oppinion, so to speak.

  • OK, this is totally Gothic and awesome! Chromatic? [E-F-E-A] [A-G#-E](x2) [G#-G-D#] [F#-G(sus)-C] [A-G#-E] [A-A#-B-C-C#-D-D#(sus)] up an octave at 1:07, right? [D-C#-G#](x2) [C#-C-G] [B(sus)glissandoC(sus)]? Is this correct up to 1:22? I'm not going to steal your piece, but I will try it my Etherwave. By the way, I love the crosses and the Star of David over your volume antenna arm. God bless you and rock the theremin! :)

  • @ThereminWeirdo Well, I play totally by ear, so I haven't a clue what notes I played. They sounded right, so I played'em that way. :)

Thanks for the kind words. :)

  • Where can one acquire a theremin? And how much are they?

  • @shawnzo9 Visit my channel for a list of links to theremin manufacturers. They run anywhere from $150, on up to a few hundred, or even a few thousand depending on model, and vintage.

  • lol runescape!

  • very cool :D

  • @vicklikevick Thanks. :)

  • Hello Thomas. This is a very nice song. I love the pitch jumps and i do love the sound of a Moog Theremin Pro. This theremin is amazing. The sound of it is so different but different good! I would do everything to have the chance to play one day on one. And maybe in some Years there comes a new Moog theremin *laugh*. The ending of this song is very harmony i really like it. I'm able now to play "the swan" ive practised a lot. It's not perfect and practising makes it. Have a nice Day Thomas ;).

  • @MirkoScheuer Thanks for the kind words. :) It sounds like you're really wanting to get a crack at the Etherwave Pro. I do hopeyou get that chance someday. I'm glad to hear you're making good progress on The Swan. Not easy. :) I wish you a good day too. :)

  • Haunting, thank you.

  • @xeasternxz You're welcome. :)

  • See, this is the kind of stuff I've always thought of when I thought of theramins. It wasn't until I got on youtube that I saw someone using one for a classical piece.

You sure dress nice when you make youtube videos. I wear 10 year old t-shirts with pit stains and look a horrible mess. But my uploads are cartoons, so I can get away with it I suppose. One guy I subscribe to is too lazy to even wear a shirt in his vlogs. He says he looks like Jesus on crystal meth. He's crazy.

  • Thanks. :) Presentation is 90 percent of the product. :)

  • i gotta ask you something. i just bought the bruns b3. i never played a theremin and i signed myself to perform infront of a university class on feb 22. so i have 2 weeks atleast to learn it. in your opinion, what do i need to really get a hold of playing this instrument and why genre is easiest to perform by for this event?

  • Assuming you have a very good ear, and are willing to take several lessons with me via skype, as well as obtaining a copy of my dvd, you might be able to play one, perhaps two simple, and short tunes like Twinkle Little Star, or something slow.

However, that would cost 80 dollars for 4 lessons, and 25 for the dvd. You would still not be able to perform at a level of quality that would be "pleasing to the ear" within 2 weeks.

Best to go with effects demonstrations in the time you have.

  • Thomas man....you got to do a cover of Plan 9 From Outer Space

  • I'd love to, and if I can secure permission from the copyright owner, I'd certainly do it.

    Thanks. :)

  • Well the film is in public domain and the composer simply just editied pieces of music together to create the soundtrack so I doubt there's any copyright on it.

  • I'll certainly look into it. :)

  • @ThomasGrillo

dont forget to tell mue!!! I wanna ear it!!

  • Actually, I'm sorry, but the film is still under copyright protection. I just found out yesterday. :(

  • aww sorry about that

  • Me too. :)

  • you spooked me reeeeeal bad, thomas! dang!

  • Dear, oh deear. lol :)

  • Affa kreepy ma freen' gaart ma taak feer!!

    Gordon

  • Thanks.

  • @ThomasGrillo Nay buther ava ma freen!

    Gordon

  • Rhythm accompaniment makes the song sound cheap, but your talent shines through. Overall, fantastic work.

  • Thanks. Yeh, I used Band In A Box to do the accomp, but it sounds much better in the high quality master, than here.

  • thanks man, now my house mates think im having some kind of satanic ritual :)

just kiddin, great music, very creepy.

    peace

  • LOL. thanks. Glad you enjoyed it. :)

  • @justseanmusic its alright, i loved it :D

i subbed so keep em coming ;)

  • Cool, will do. :)

  • this is some really incredible stuff, how much is the theremin and did it take you long to master?

  • Thanks. This is the Moog Etherwave Pro which, unfortunately was discontinued. However, you can still find it on ebay from time to time for several thousand dollars.

Moogmusic still makes a cheaper model, the Etherwave Standard for about $400.

Even cheaper, but just as playable are the Burns theremins for between a $150 to $350 depending on model. Check my channel for links to different manufacturers.

  • The Theremin is a super groovy instrument. My favorite band Demon Hunter used one in their last album. You know Thomas, you should do Moonlight Sonata on the Theremin i dont think it's been done :-) or maybe Cannon in D by Pachabel

  • Thank you. :)

Actually, I did Moonlight Sonata in the video, Theremin Concert On Burns B3 Deluxe.

It's a good bit pass the half way mark in the video.

Oh, the vid's about half an hour long. :)

    Enjoy. :)

  • O i watched about just after Ava Maria. That's cool though. What about doing hmmmm Pure Imagination off of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (the original) or Imagine by John Lennon (in memory of his passing 29 years ago as of tuesday the 8th) Just throwing out suggestions :) keep making good vids :)

  • I'd love to do those other pieces, but they're still under copyright protection.

  • Ah that I did not know well right on. All you have to do is wait like 50 years. Copyright's expire after 70 years I think :-P

  • Well, life of the composer, plus 70.

Anything before 1923 is public domain, however. :)

  • Hmm, well I always thought that as long as you didn't claim it as your own and showing that you were just playing a cover it was cool. Because I see lots of people playing music by Koji Kondo (Nintendo's composer for zelda and mario games) but then again what do i know. Well speaking of zelda i'm off to play Zelda Ocarina of Time :) have a fantastic weekend

  • Nope. Can't do covers. Gotta have written permission by the CR holder, and in most cases, you have to pay royalties.

I spent 6 months mastering the piece, Requiebros, only to discover it's stil copyright protected til 2036. cost me 65 dollars for the accompanist to perform it for me, and another 15 for sheet music. Real bummer, that.

    Enjoy your game.

  • Wow i'm learning things all the time o and I did Gannon went down :-P

  • Cool. :)

  • Wow, that sounds so cool!

  • Thank you. :)

  • awesome!!! do you compose musics for movie??

    man you a great!

  • Yes. I've recently scored the sound effects, and music for the movie Golgotha, and I'm working on some music for the independent film, Murderabelia.

  • great! tell me when they are released on dvd!

  • I'll certainly do that. :)

  • thanks!

  • You're welcome. :)

  • Stunning and creepy, and beautifully played. Fantastic.

  • Thank you. :)

  • wow nice work

    really amazing

  • Thank you. :)

  • Hi Thomas

We're so sorry we didn't spot this until after hallowe'en. I know a few folks it would have gone down really well with.

Love the production and the playing's great as always!

  • Hi. Great to hear from you, and thanks for the kind words. :)

  • Man, this is just awesome :D

  • Thank you. :)

  • Thomas,

    you did it again.

    Very big compliments.

I wish you would teach me to play my theremin as you do.

    :-)

  • Thank you for the kind words. :)

I do offer theremin lessons via skype.

I'll give you the details via your channel contact.

  • Excellent work my man, that was truly spooky.

  • Thanks. It was fun to do. :)

  • that was great! this kind of talent is my aspiration!

  • Thanks. I wish you all the best with your aspiration. :)

  • very nice composition. I wonder when you are going to perform a chopin piece , or make a improvisation over one. I think the sound of the theremin would me be great for this =)

  • I will be uploading a Chopin piece later this month or early next month. :)

  • Ooh, that'll be awesome!

Chopin is one of my favorite composers.

    This song is really interesting,

gives so many different vibes and visions.

It's nice to have somebody on Youtube who is

    active in playing the theremin.

It definitely gives me more interest into

    investing in one!

  • Thanks. I wish you all the best with your theremin. :)

  • Thanks Thomas! Great job as always!!

  • Thanks. Great to hear from you. :)

  • Thank you. :)

  • Extremely interesting as always, Thomas! I always like watching your videos.

  • Thanks for the kind words. More to come. :)

  • Amazing, I will always watch your newest updates. Its almost sad trying to play my theremin knowing I won't be better then you.

  • Thanks for the kind words.

Keep at it. You'll get there. :)

  • Super job! I'm sure that guitarists can imagine how hard it is to play a fretless insturment.

  • Indeed. It's even harder than that. :)

  • Woah, I love this song! I assume it's an original composition? The melody is just perfect.

  • Thanks. Yes, it's an original composition. The accompaniment was created using Band in a box pro. :)

  • Pretty darned swell!

  • Thanks. :)

  • Wish i could download this, bloody awesome piece of music! Thanks Thomas!

  • Thanks for the kind words, and you're welcome. :)

  • Well done. Just like classic horror movies. Just how it should looks and sounds like. And perfect thermine playing as usual. Bravo maestro :)

  • Thank you for the kind words. :)

  • Great Grillo's Ghost! favorited!

  • Thanks. :)

  • Cool spooky sound dude! It reminded me of Castlevania game or something like that!

  • Thanks. :)

  • Niccce

  • Thanks. :)

  • you did awesome but you were a lil late on posting this

  • Yeh, lol, on two fronts. But, I was delayed by production for a 3 hour concert I recently gave at a restaurant, and a day of theremin demos for a middle school's science fun day. I'd intended to have this up sooner. I also "just" missed the deadline for the moog halloween theremin video contest, but since I worked so hard on it, I thought I'd at least share it. Better late than never. ;)

  • yea thats true...........appreciated

  • awesome! loved it

  • Thank you. :)

  • Ugh! I really need to play my Theremin more, its a great little contraption but I never have any free time and im too self conscious to play when someone else is around :\ Thanks for the inspiration Mr Grillo.

  • You're welcome, and thanks for the kind words. :)

  • Great job for Haloween.

    Reminds me of "Dark Shadows"

..shadows in the night.. or something like that.

Geting some green paint for one of our walls may have 'special effect' . :-)

    Great job, again!

    Ray

  • Thanks for the kind words. :)

  • Heheh, that is one nifty special effect.

This really reminds me of the theme to and old PlayStation game called MediEvil. In other words: Excellent tune :)

  • I remember that game. :)

Thanks for the kind words. :)

  • Creepy song! I've experimented with a theremin for a couple months. They definitly take some skill. Your videos make it look easy. I'm quite impressed!

  • Thanks for the kind words. :)
