  • Hi Nigel, I was told that when the lifeboat went in close to the rocks to do the rescue, ALL the crew would have had to been in agreement with Trevelyan to go in so close, and try to get everyone off, If ONE crew member said no, Trevelyan wouldn't have gone in,so yes I believe they should ALL should have recieved the George Cross. All for one and one for ALL, And Russ Holland (myself) did the painting in the picture about 15 years ago.

  • Trevelyan Richards ought to have been awarded the George Cross.

Who did the painting by the way?

  • the men of the penlee lifeboat, never forgotten wherever or whenever men go to sea,R.I.P

  • this song means a lot to me as stephen madron was my uncle great song !! RIP

  • I was 16 when this happened ansd cant believe how much its come to play in my life.....I'm from Shropshire but have spent so much time in cornwall sinmce the age of 6... i feel Cornish, i visit Mousehole at least Twice a year and try to always leave flowers at the Penlee Boathouse...if i dont do that i feel i'm letting those Brave lads down.....i hope if theres any family of the brave 8 reading this that you take comfort still from everyone around the world thats heard of them...please be proud.

  • This song has the present Penlee lifeboat crew singing the backing vocals on the track, my personal thanks to them all.

  • I was 21 when the Soloman Browne and all hands were lost, and 29 years later it still brings me to tears every time I think about it. I was once told you die twice, the first time is when you stop breathing and the second time is when your name is said for the last time, these eight men will live forever.

  • I looked up the penlee lifeboat story when i was on holiday last year and i passed the old boat house this song gets me every time to think that these men gave there lifes to save others that they had never met is truely incredable its good to know that intodays world there still men out there like these all be it back in81 but theres still the rnli and with men like these in there ranks its a warm feeling to know that there are still men of honour in this world everyman a hero.

  • Yes they all were,i went to school with the second cox Stephen Madron.

  • very nice song . sure brave blokes every one of them . real heros .
