I agree with everything, except that English has the widest vocabulary in the world. I speak fluent Russian, and it is MUCH broader than English, and I suspect many other languages are too.

English has (after much diligent assessment ) volumes of words on top of any language when you compare words in their basic forms.

I think the problem a lot of people have with poetry is that learning poetry in school is so unenjoyable and daunting. The teachers and profs in high school and University force you to look at the poems so carefully, with a fine tooth comb. What does the author mean? What did that metaphor mean? It completely ruins the purity of poetry.
