@kengisamasempisankun Icy: You're asking about the word 'the'? Well it doesn't exist in Japanese. Same with 'a'. So if you wanted to say 'there is a dog'(犬があります) you would basically be saying 'there is dog'.
@KandMIcyFire YOU wouldn't say "arimasu" because this word is for inanimate things.you would say "imasu" which is for animate things.... ^_^ かわいい ですね.
@KandMIcyFire xD always here my friend..I started learning Japanese a few weeks ago and I love this language so much that I think I made a really noticeable progress in learning it trough the internet...If you really like something then no one can prevent you from doing it..:)how long is it since you started learning this fascinating language?:)
@J0K3R1n4 Icy: I'm learning it at my online school and I'm picking it up so quickly(by now I have あります and います down! :D). I just started in late August(the begining of the school year) and I find I am learning more Japanese than Spanish(when I took Spanish one year). It's a fairly easy language. :3 I can't wait to see how well I'll be able to speak it when I get to my senior year(I'm a sophmore now). :O
@KandMIcyFire Im SO glad that there are so determined people!!!well done to you!i'm so proud of you!!!!can you tell me how the online school works?maybe i can learn something from there too!!!
Japanese is pretty hard, isn't it? All the verb and adjective conjugations. In english, to be polite, you just need to add the word "please" to your sentence. There's not need to conjugage a bunch of words to be polite.
i thought when u say ( ore wa ) is so casual because i hear it alot and any 1 can use it .....loool good thing that i watched your video ....and thx rof aploading
@chewkc65 Don't use "ware", unless you want to sound like an old man. Say "watashi", "boku", or "ore"(only use ore with friends) or if you are a girl, try "atashi" or "uchi" (I believe uchi is more southern sounding, osaka area).
Im gonna creep my mum out by saying Tea? Mother :D Wahaha cnt wait to try this out i love these lessons they are great :) It helps to just hear how it is correctly pronounced too ^,^
I think Kimi was used by female saying "I" I think it's the opposite of boku??? well, I sometimes heard them saying kimi... please correct me if I'm wrong.
so... women can't say "boku" or "ore"? isn't that kind of sixist? I'm always gonna use boku and ore if i don't have to be polite..... stupid sexist bastards.....
it's not really sexist because they have lots of words males can't say as well its like saying mr or mrs in english, in Japan they use the same title for both.
Ha ha, I saw it on Hana Kimi, too. "Watashi" is used by boys too. But I guess, because the University in that J- Dorama is only for boys, all boys say "boku" or "ore". So it is weird, if on "boy" use "watashi"...
omae no namae wa is for casual man to man talk like you don't care about politeness you just want his name , you don't ask a girl or a kid with that sentence at least that is what I think.

She said "You can never be too polite".
Really? How many of you would talk to your own brother or your very, very close friend in this way?
"Hello, Mr. Jones. How delightful to see you again today, sir. Would you be so kind telling me what you have been up to lately? And Mr. Jones, have you had any dinner yet? If not, then how about accompany me to the restaurant around the corner, if you'd please."
Your close friend would probably think you are being sarcastic, or just plain stupid. :)
well as you are speaking in english it doesnt quite make sense. There are obviously cultural differences and being polite is important.I think its good that she stresses the importance of being polite. Theres nothing worse then being misinterperated as being rude.
Exactly. It doesn't quite make sense to speak in a way like that to your close friend. And that is exactly my point. Maybe there are cultural differences between countries, but the basic idea is the same; You always talk in a more respectful manner to, let's say, your boss compared to your family and close friends, right? And yes, there is no fun in being misinterpreted. And if you are too polite to your friends or family, they will think that you are being sarcastic or something.
Maybe there is a difference between different cultures as for which level of politeness is appropriate at a certain situation. But my point is that all cultures have, more or less, different levels in politeness. And of course, noone wants to be mistaken for being a rude person, which will happen if you're not being polite when you should. But noone wants to be mistaken for being sarcastic either, which will happen if you're too polite when you shouldn't. Just common sense, really. :)
Japanese people would consider excessive explanations and excessive argumentations as rude, while because many Americans love being heard or love conquering others in debate, they tend not to find this line of conversation as rude.
when you first go to japan, or when you first start learning japanese more than likely you won't have close friends right off the bat. the best way to learn casual speech is to learn polite and learn it from others as you become closer and therefore more casual in speech.

わたし わ マヌエル です (my name is manuel) is this correct?
XhydraX01225 11 months ago
@XhydraX01225 It is わたし は サムエル です. We use the particle は(HA) though it pronounce WA. Don't ask why but it works that way LOL!!!
aimthemopheles 11 months ago
@XhydraX01225 No, it is not even what AimThemopheles said, it is "わたし の なまえ は マムエル です。” In Kanji that would be "私の名前はマムエルです。”
deoxy999 11 months ago
@XhydraX01225 Actually instead of わ the hiragana for は(HA) should be used. は is a particle that is used to mark the topic of a sentence.

watashi = I
Boku = me
Ore = Dude
kinda like that?
Siddy1200 2 years ago
i think boku is the masculine form of I and watashi is feminine or masculine polite. If I'm wrong please correct me
keatonguy 2 years ago
To clarify,
Watakshi = "I" (very polite)
Watashi = "I" (normal polite)
Boke = "I" (male only, casual)
Ore = "I" (male only, very casual, similar to English "dude" as its not the correct use for the word, its just colloquial)
My examples bellow were supposed to explain this, but might have just caused more confusion.

Watakushi, watashi-polite gender neutral.
Boku, ore-masculine but sometimes young women and girls use boku.
Atashi-feminine, males never say atashi.
Anata, kimi, omae- meaning you. But never use these if you know the person's name, use their name instead.
Ka naa-M, kashira-F. Sentence ending means I wonder? Women will sometimes use ka naa. Men never say kashira.
Datte-M, desu tte-F. Sentence ending meaning I heard that...
