This is great , but Waylon`s version from his 1973 album Honky Tonk Heroes is still the ultimate interpretation of this beautiful Donnie Fritts / Troy Seals ballad .
@godlike51 Nashville doesnt have a clue what good counry should sound like. The stones have always done country music better than most country artist. Toby Keith listen and learn
post '74 or thereabouts, I'll take Keith's solos stuff and his solo material on Stone's record any day over Jagger/Stones compositions. I think The Worst is one of his best songs of the last 30 yrs. Seems that when he writes for Jagger these days his heart isn't in it as much. Also, I'm tired of listening to Jagger's stale and tired croaks on recent albums.
Keith, like no other British rocker (or American, for that matter), has a true feel for how a great country song should be presented. This is a great version of the song.
This man is art...there'll never be another Keith. This is the most soulful version of this much-recorded song I have ever heard. It is a treasure to be cherished.
Thanks for the great post! Keith's take on country music has an interesting feeling. From what I gather, Gram Parsons played a major role in Keith's desire to capture an authentic country flavor with certain Stones songs too. The guitar work on "Honky Tonk Women" was probably the first Stones song that really reflected that influence. Keith's love of country later lead him to do a duet with George Jones; "Burn Your Playhouse Down" which is also somewhere on Youtube.
Oh my God, I've never heard this before. It's so beautiful! Love the photo too.

@StingerNova I think this is a Donny Fritts Song. Donny lost his face to a rare cancer and it is a story worth watching. Search it on Google.

a lot of great Stones are not released. The un-released Stones catalogue is way better than other "Stars" released catalogues.

I love these Keith recordings from the seventies.
It amazes me that a person who excells at the Blues, and Rock, and Rock and Roll, can also deliver so beautifully with Country.
Keith is truly a Master.
And he has SOUL!
