  • best lick at 2:16 to 2:18. (choosing the best lick was difficult too :)

  • Hi dutchbopper!

When you play, do you tend to synchronize your downstrokes with downbeats and upstrokes with upbeats? I ask because you have such a solid, classic bebop time and feeling in your lines that is very hard to get for me... everything seems to flow forward in your playing... its quite amazing

  • @a0308717 No, I may do that but if I do ... it's not a conscious thing. Fact is that when I am recording a video, I hardly ever think. I am not aware of any synchronization really.

  • Love it, I think you only get to the point where your not thinking after you have played a while. I'm 55 and only recently truly achieved it. Love your stuff keep on swinging.

  • It's beyond my comprehension show a human being can move those fingers that fast on a fret board so effortlessly. Incredible.

  • Great skill !!!

  • Noodles AND sauce. Very good.

  • Great to see you back Dirk.

  • Very often it´s just s..t, when people are noodling on a tune....when you´re noodling on a tune it´s first class! That´s the difference!

  • @LONGWINDING Thanks Frank.

  • Excellent as always. Thanks.

  • Greeting from NYC. I've been lurking your videos for awhile and you're a real inspiration, sir. Though, I play bass I take as much as I can out of you're style of playing. You remind of my instructor reminiscent, though a tad more traditional ala Joe Pass and such. Just a quick question, though: Whilst playing you're lines do you tend to think more about the vertical aspect (chordal) or horizontal (scalar)? I feel like lately I'm playing much more vertical and sounds too.. exercise-esque. Thanks

  • @TheBasicBassist1989 When studying I tend to focus on vertical playing I guess. It kind of depends on the tune. Modal tunes require a more horizontal approach of course. But when I am playing the thinking stops and it's just the fingers. Most more experienced players do not think much while playing. The music just comes out. You don't have the time to think anyway. I associate thinking with studying, less with making music.

  • Looks like you have marking to do. :) Nice noodles!

  • @StandardSam1 LOL. Very observing. Quite so.

  • @dutchbopper My pile is bigger. :) The bigger the marking pile, the more guitar practice you get. It's good.

  • Hoezo niks bijzonders???? top.

  • A very cool cat for sure.

  • Thanks Dutchbopper.
