  • I have to admit, I read a bunch of his books, but finally was put off by the graphic violence. They're really great books though, and apparently the audience member at this engagement is uninformed in what he was alleging.

  • This is crazy.

Although, I must admit, I do get the feeling that Goodkind think that women are less than men in the books. sorry.

And seriously, Kahlan is supposed to be the strongest female in the book, and yet every time something happens, she cries, weeps, and seeks comfort from someone - usually a man. Thats not strength, thats weakness. I like the Kahlan in the Legend of The Seeker show better for this reason - she is way more fierce and strong than the Kahlan in the books.

  • @hakkeboef68 Richard cries and weeps in the books too. If Kahlan was the strongest woman/person in the book; never crying or seeking comfort - she wouldn't be a great character, because she wouldnt be relatable. the strongest person can still be a weak person. Seeking comfort with someone "usually a man", well, clearly thats horse-shit cuz she loves Richard and cares about him and for him.....i thought that was obvious.

  • To know good, one must know evil. To fight evil, one must see evil, understand it. Sometimes, to fight evil, one must do evil deeds. Not because you are evil, but because evil will not falter, will not quit, and it will not care if you or those you care for die as a result of its actions. But good will care, and that marks the difference between the two. Will we be able to do what needs to be done when faced with this? This is what this person can't understand, the main theme of the books: TRUTH

  • To quote Cara, "Women are stronger than men."

This guy did absolutely no research, because in the series (just thinking about it in my head), I can name a number of powerful, ideal women in the series, and can think of fewer powerful men in the series, even! The entire Sword of Truth series is, if anything, a direct refutation of this!

The men who rape women in the series resemble men from a completely different time, 'All women are whores. Women are evil.' Claims that NO ONE could believe.

  • What about the Evil Chicken?

  • @kfnr you mean the chicken that wasn't a chicken? lol

  • you suck Terry Goodkind

  • Such a strange outburst. I suppose this would be a reason why those not emotional mature enough should not read things of an adult nature. Whoever this was, was so flustered by the fictional stories within the books that he even started making up things in his rant like some religious fanatic you'd find on the street.

  • Very well said.

  • passion rules reason

  • If you were to take T. Goodkinds character's comments out of context then you can make any claim that you want. The hard solid fact of the matter was that the look on Terry's face was one of disgust at the question, not of fear. I'm pretty sure that the person in question was in error with his remarks, as rape is something in Terry's books that signifies the epitome of shame, pain, and criminality. I've always gotten that message in any "rape scene" in his books, and just aren't convinced.

  • Who cares what terrygoodkind thinks i think he is awsome awsome books and everything why do you care are you his wife? fuk shut up

  • Isn't ABC owned by Disnney, who distibutes the show in syndication on multiple networks including but not limited to the CW...Plus the show is based on the books. good for you and your brother that you got to confront T.G.

I like the show, so I bought WFR, I'm only on ch. 24, haven't read a rape scene yet...

TG is questionable though, DemminNas is a pedophile rapist,

The books were dark, I was warned before reading...but the show IS NOT DARK AND IS REALLY FUN TO WATCH

  • And just to add, I was prepared for the darker edgier tone in the books thanks to some indb posters...that said I LOVE WFR. CAN'T PUT IT DOWN. WOULDN'T CHANGE MUCH ABOUT IT. TG is entitled to his imagination, just as you're entitled to read it, and dislike it. No matter what you thought about it, in the end YOU THOUGHT about his writings...If I were an author, I'd be pround that something I wrote sparked enought passion that a reader felt compelled to attack me. I think he was honored myself.

  • One final thing. My brother suffered no negative consequence of any kind from this action. None, Zero, Zip. In fact we went out drinking in old town with the security crews because they thought what he did took guts. What did happen from this is we got Goodkinds lawyer ejected from the con because he insulted us in front of the security guards(I am sure he got back in the the next day but it was still funny). Last word on this from me, We had a great time at Comic-Con See ya again this summer.

  • Just as an aside. for the love of god, yes. Both I and my brother have read all his stupid books, and yet from reading his books we have come to these conclusions about this beliefs. We also think he works with a Ghost writer cause he clearly didn't write Deabt of Bones cause its the only book that doesn't have a rape scene in it!! He has said in interviews that he is the new Ayn Rand. That means he thinks the world is all about him him him!! ever read the fountainhead? THINK ABOUT IT!!

  • wow you guys really are still talking about this. that is so funny. This guy was my brother by the way. He showed the books to the security guards before yelling at good ol terry there. They read a few chapters, agreed with us and let us have our fun. besides we won anyway. this panel was talking about a show for ABC. next thing you know its on CW, so its not even on a real network. And the real kicker of this was, we did this just for fun. just to annoy the rest of you guys. and it worked LOL

  • hes lucky i wasnt there, i would of jumped out of my seet and wooped his ass

  • they are going to have to tame Jagang if he makes it to the tv series.

  • ugh, this guy STILL makes me mad and it's been months since the con. not only was he disrespectful in the panel but he followed people around the convention, trying to make everyone know what he thinks Terry said.

the real kicker? once outside the panel, he put on a fucking LUCHADOR mask, as if he could hide himself. dude was about 6'3", fat, red hair and a red beard. HOW THE FUCK DOES SOMEONE THAT SIZE THINK HE CAN HIDE? fucking loser.

i hope he was tossed out of the con after his behavior.

  • Dumbass..

  • hmmm...okay stating the obvious here - apparently those guys have NEVER picked up a TERRY GOODKIND book. most of the characters' are actually made up of only women, and they all kick righteous b***!

why doesn't anyone do research before sticking their foot in their mouth?

  • All the same I hope they don't put scenes like that into the show. You can allude to evilness without showing it.

  • I'm sure they won't. That wouldn't make the network television cut.

  • hahaha i like how he says "bogus"

  • The comments made by the men in the video? JaJang The Just....approves!

Utter ignorance! They're exactly the type of people who would follow the Order.

  • Goodkind is THE MAN

    his books are GREAT

and that guy in the video mouthing off about rape was a dickhead! plain and simple

if u read the books rape is depicted 4 what it is EVIL

it is not condoned or glamourised in any way

    end of

  • Terry Goodking (or should i say Rahl) WE LOVE YOU!

  • Goodkind used rape as probably one of the worst fates for the women in his universe - and a depiction of true evil. You did not go "Haha, rape is funny" - you'd get chills and be terrified for the women who were being defiled. Notice only the Order, the embodiment of evil almost, were the only ones to truly embrace it (short of D'Hara prior to Richard's rule)

    Goodkind writes strong female characters.

  • skypiratebe, you've nailed it. I cannot believe that anyone, who had ACTUALLY READ the series could think that Goodkind condones rape.

  • Thanks for clearing that up for this imbecile.

  • sorry, didn't mean to post that twice... stupid comp....

  • Apparently the guys who mentioned that terry believes that women are less than men hasn't read any of his work. It's just like HazenMustaine said, The sword of truth series is chalked full of women who could kick your ass and not even blink.

  • seriously. i mean they should look at the mord-sith. they kick ass

  • This is as bad as putting down The Dark Knight for the infamous "raspy voice."

Stop discrediting great works of fiction for minor reasons.

  • I liked the books, but you can't disregard the books sickening scenes. It is understood that Terry uses it to portray evil men, but that doesn't mean that they are write to read and good for ones mind.

  • It is true that rape is shown in some of his books, but he portrays the brutality of men who believe in serving a "greater good." His books are larger than life and is life itself. By depicting the stagnant beliefs of demonic men, he demonstrates that our life is ours to choose and ours alone. I don't like it how people judge too quickly because they find something offensive or violent. How would you like it if you were judged harshly? His books are stories of life. Rise up and life your life.

  • Thats why Terry's ability to convey such emotion and heartache by writing about such atrocities, and then they way those people overcome such horrible things, is what makes it good.

Thats my opionion. I almost put it down also, but i'm glad i didnt. you really should finish the series

  • Usually the way they overcome these atrocities is by committing their own.Such as when Richard ordered his army to go into the enemy's territory and plunder, pillage, and kill every single man, woman and child.

  • It's not rape if they are willing,

    Legally animals can't rape,

Evil is suppose to be sickening,

but... as you said, this is the appeal and the flash of realism that brings interest to so many readers, the sickening people in Atlas shrugged and the righteousness of the works. (So... your post isn't angering, and is quite honest so I'm thumbs-uping you)

  • Wow, where is this guy coming from? I've read all the books in the series except Confessor and the only rape scene I recall is the off-screen rape of Kahlan's half-sister in book 2. And what's with the bashing women thing? The series is full of strong women: Kahlan, Cara, Verna, Nicci, Ann, even the little girl Rachael is shone in a positive light. Some people will do anything to get attention I guess.

  • Well, to be fair to those of this opinion, there is actually far more rape than that. There were a number of times that entire cities were raped, and Kahlan herself was pretty much raped in the first book. It was never my favorite element of the books, but I also don't think it was ever portrayed as not being horrible and wrong. Because only the worst kind of people did it.

  • When was Kahlan raped in WFR? That's not ringing any bells for me at all.

  • he just groped he got killed before he could finish the job...

  • Kahlan was never raped......The most that happened in the story was that he slid his fingers inside her....But he never raped her.....

  • some states expanded the definition of rape to include the forcible entry of fingers. I think it's termed digital rape.

  • Well then if u want to get all technical and legal then....The law wouldn't apply to them on rape then since when he did the act of sliding his finger in her....The law wasn't enacted then...So he would be protected by a grandfather clause

  • When he did it in the fictional setting is irrelevant... when and what Terry goodkind wrote in his book is what they're after.

  • some states expanded the definition of rape to include the forcible entry of fingers. I think it's termed digital rape.

  • If I remember correctly,Kahlan thought her sister brought it on herself because the sister didn't share the same politics and beliefs as Kahlan

  • these are the same type who tried to boycott harry potter. they are just trying to work on grown up material now. try reading the books or any book before trying to for an opinion. educated people think your retarded when you lash out like that. go back to harry potter.

  • Those guys have to have some sort of agenda... What?

  • wow... those guys can't possibly have read the books... Rape is depicted as a horrible crime that tramples all over personal freedom(which it is).

The rape scenes in the books are meant to invoke a rightous anger towards the antagonists, the imperial order etc.

  • link?

  • The problem with that logic is that the audience member attacked Goodkind's "objectivist" philosophy as being the source of this problem, but Ayn Rand is Goodkind's philosophical guide and the Sword of Truth series is heavily influenced by The Fountainhead. Now, I am not an objectivist, and not a huge fan of Ayn Rand, but I sincerely doubt that Ms. Ayn Rand would tell you that rape is OK by her and subsequently Goodkind's philosophy. Not to mention there are a number of very strong females.

  • In the books, who regularly exert power over men.

  • This is a story sent in a Middle Ages type setting (with Magic thrown in). What OTHER ways did evil people subjugate women back in the 1400s to 1800s? Did they just call them mean names? Suggest they be barefoot and pregnant MORE?

  • You made a youtube account just to make comment about discrediting Raimi and Goodkind over false information? Really? Really?? Thats some pathetic shit.

  • "Wizards first rule: People can be made to believe any lie, either because they want to believe it's true, or because they are afraid it's true."

  • Best! Comment! Ever!

  • Thank you!

  • Clearly, you haven't even read any of Goodkind's books, and you're speaking based upon false information. You also don't know a damned thing about Objectivist ideals either. People should really strive to correct their ignorance before they open their mouths. Read Temple of the Winds or Faith of the Fallen before you start making judgments about Goodkind's philosophies. Only when people are informed about an issue can they pass judgment upon it.

  • I meant this comment in respect to those who have been bashing Goodkind, not in reference to any of the positive support below. Just wanted everything to be understandable.

  • It's funny because, like Terry said, he wasn't even THERE...

  • Wow both ofthose guys were cunts but I love how everyone starts to boo that dude in the end.

  • lol he clearly hasn't read any of goodkind's books.

  • There's always one dickwad.
