As is typical with experimental/avant garde works of all kinds, any substance is imagined, contrived by the audience. Which is fine, but what remains is little more than a novelty.
I can't say that I understand ANY of that... but it was pretty freaky, interesting and definitely different. I wish Hollywood could be more open minded. :/
It is so clear that "tom Stoppard" doesn't understand a thing about "modern art". And it is clear that you don't understand a thing about this film, simply by using this quote. This film wouldn't even fall under "modern art".
Read a book, take a class, open your mind a bit before you critique something from a perspective a complete ignorance on the subject. Not saying you can't have an opinion, just realize that within the dialogue of this type of art, that type of opinion is irrelevant.
you are missing most of the work if you believe this to be just "chopped up", this is darkroom work, parts of the film are obscured and reshot onto a new piece of film. pieces of visual spill over onto the audio track.
this could NOT be done with vegas, unless you use photoshop and go into it frame by frame to obscure and combine frames.
You appear to have read nothing of tscherkassky's work or method and yet you have commented on the "nothing" ness of a film you CLEARLY don't understand.
I have his DVD "in the darkroom" of his contact print films, from the distribution company "index". He is an amazing film maker, its definitely worth the 20 or 30 bucks.
i love how this film is completely analog! peter made this film in a darkroom. he laid the print of the entity over an unexposed film strip and used a laser pointer to expose certain parts of the entity's image onto the unexposed film.

While trying to use filmic horror conventions to critique the positioning of women as abject, one wonders if he perpetuates the violence without advancing any recourse. It certainly seems that argument is plain to see.
You miss the inclusion of the spectator; it seems to me not only does the positioning make the viewer complicit in the attack, but is attacked as well for it's acquiescence.
Thanks a lot for putting this one up, I also have been looking for this one ever after I saw it once at some festival- the only one I remembered from it! So nice to make stuff like this WITHOUT aftereffects and the like, but WITH real lights, real sounds and real smells of the dark room..
anyone can make crap like this.

The concept was the film is attacking the female character. This is an extremely edited and degraded version of the Entity with Barbara Hershey.
