I've got an '05 R53 Mini S (Supercharged model). It may not be faster than some of the VW's around where I live, but I love not seeing Minis every 2 feet. I used to have a Jetta, but I can't stomach seeing anymore Vdubs around, WAY too many!
Obviously your full of crap the GTIs interior is far more superior in quality to even he jcw Cooper, minis ride like crap and rattle like a box of nails. Also mod for mod the mini can NEVER beat the GTI. Sounds like a fanboys is just pissed off he bought the wrong car. :-)

I hate people saying Mini is expensive for what it really is. Well...an GTI isn't much cheaper. More power...perhaps, but the MK5 was one of the worst GTI versions in history, like the mk4!! (I guess mikethebeast1012 drives a Polo TDI! LOL) The MK6 is a really great car. I tried one. But I wouldn't change it for my Cooper S R56. Got little less Power....but soooo much more fun!!! MINI is an art of life. Not just a car!!

The GTI is a nice car, however it doesn't come NEAR the mini in handling and teconology (specially since my 2011 cooper S has double vanos and twin scroll turbo)
I beat a Mustang V8 with my mini on the circuit...and def i beat a GTI.
Cars have to balance speed/handling...They are not designed to run on a straight line only (well american cars ARE)
A carrera beats a mini for just 2 seconds on a sprint... 38,000 a second extra LOL.

The R56 cooper S i just bought hasn't gone on track... i have to wait till the engine/brakes settle to the altitude so i can push it to the limits... about 1,000 km (i'm from mexico, no miles here LOL)
Oh and guys!! even though the GTI is built in Germany, the engine IS manufactured in the Puebla plant, its a GREAT engine.

Love the hot hatch's but no way the GTI keeps up with the R56. The R32's around town can't hang with my R53 most days. Our R56 is a freakin' rocket compared to our 2 R53's. Even the big motor A4's bow to the 56, forget the lowly VW stuff.

I have proved with figures that JCW is as fast as GTi. But you insist on using america's price to give vw advantage and compare cooper s with gti. Out of all countries in europe and japan, you pick US. That doesn't end my curiosity. Explain how a car made in germany costs less in US than in germany when it has to be transported to US? Price should go up even more once you factor the import tax.
@cytomatrix i agree all i can think of is currency, but the FACT is that the golf and its variants are built in germany, some jettas are built in mexico but no golfs. those are facts. the reason japan isnt used is because that is a country not real friendly to cars, also price should be dependent so i can only assume that your prices are very off

GTi is £15,563 in US and £24290 in UK. Again you missed the point. Please read my comment again. If some costs 'x' amount to produce and costs 'y' amount to transport, total cost should be x+y not an amount lower than x. My suspicion is VW makes cars locally and MINI doesn't. And mini hasn't been in america for a long time. So bigger premium. GTi doesn't perform better than JCW. It just comes with more stuff. Better bang for buck? yes. Better performing? no.
@cytomatrix vw does build cars in america, however the gti is not, it is ONLY built in germany so that ends your curiosity right there. more space for the money_VW, more features for the money_VW, better performance for the money_VW, those are facts, the prices and laptimes prove it, take any mini and compare it with a VW of comparable price and it gets destroyed, even though the VW is carrying around the extra weight of the electronics, and just being bigger. there really isnt much to argue
So gti much better performing? No(fact). Does it come with more equips? yes. But equips dont affect performance. Comparing cars solely on price is silly if the difference is only a couple of thousands.
for every small track that the mini wins there is one where the GTI also wins. also remember this is limiting it to only the mkv (the mkvi performs even better), i never argued handling where the mini wins, explaining the minis wins on short tracks and the GTIs wins on longer tracks due to more power. but bang for your buck VW wins
@cytomatrix i guess i should amend my statements, the mini has the clear advantage or short tracks while the GTI has the clear advantage on longer tracks, i also never said equipment affected performance, but when the same price can get you a car with FAR more equipment, FAR more space, comparable performance (depending on the track) the GTI wins. "only a couple thousands" that is a HUGE price difference unless your rich when you wouldnt buy either car anyway, hundreds would be acceptable

Everywhere else GTi is way way more expensive than cooper s. JCW is more comparable to GTi. Mini has better handling and acceleration but ok top speed. Golf has better top speed but less handling and acceleration compared mini. And of course better features lol. Thats why many people buy mini instead of golf despite the price tag.

@mikethebeast1012 Here we go again. I said countries in europe and japan. In germany GTi = 27275 euros, cooper s = 23650 euros, JCW = 28900 euros. In japan GTi = 3,680,000, cooper s = 3,030,000, JCW = 3,900,000. GTi closer to JCW than cooper s. What does bang for buck has anything to do with performance? Cooper s and JCW comes with more stuff than standard mini. So different wouldn't be huge. I think you are repeating yourself just to annoy me. This will be the last post from me.

Bang for buck of mini in UK is much better than in other countries. Chilli pack costs only 2k and JCW is about the same price as GTi with the pack. I know my needs are different, mini is cheaper for me. I don't care about equips much and it comes with everything I need. Again, please dont tag me.
@mikethebeast1012 i have a stock 2008 r56 mini cooper s as well. When i clocked the 0-60 on the dyno at my shop, i got between 6.4 and 6.8 every time. I tested it 10 different times. Also take into consideration the Sport mode button, it re-maps the acceleration and gives you a little bit more. I think both cars are great cars, however, i race on tight road courses, so my preference leans towards the Mini.
@mikethebeast1012 how can you compare a "bigger" car with a MINI? lol! the MINI is designed to be small... duh! yes a vw may be cheaper but it doesn't have the quality like the MINI dose. vw is a cheap and affordable, I valet for MINI and vw. I own a r56 and I drive GTIs all day and I can't stand the low cheap quality feel. I always believed in quality vs qauntity vw better performance? yeah right the JCW would destroy your gti on the track.
JCW and Gti have similar prices in all countries in europe. Even in Japan price difference is only £3k. If we were to believe in manufacturers claims, VW has slower acceleration than JCW. For laptime check my previous comments, JCW and GTi are close. What does equipments and interior space has anything to do with performance of the car?

A JCW mini is faster than the r32 in the nurburgring. Don't know where you get that from. And if you seriously think it getting beat by a few seconds out of a near 10 minute lap time is "destroying" it then that's a joke. 3 seconds would mean alot more if it was a 1.5 min lap time.
@whygodrums10 i posted laptimes from the same site so each time is equally reliable, which is more than can be said for youre crying about how fast the JCW is when you dont have any facts to back it up, the fact is its not, the mini for the price is one of the worst (if not the worst) hot hatch you can buy, you get the least bang for your buck (as proven by laptimes) and a goofy looking car (confirmed by most reviews and popular opinion)
Regardless... these are definitely some of the ugliest, douchiest cars made, not on the PT cruiser's level...but definitely in the same state so to speak, haha. Im not sure anyone if their right mind could try and look boss in any of these cars and fool anyone... very adolescent.

I've just bought an S works 07 and it's great fun! The mini is more the drivers car as was the original. The golf would be more comfortable with both cars built to a high standard. I think the mini looks and sounds better. Don't buy a cooper s, buy a cooper s works!
@craigpesch the GTI not only out performs the mini, but it has a backseat big enough for adults, a full size trunk (both are missing in the mini), most wouldl say nicer looking especially the new ones, and better interior. the mini may handle well but thats all its got going for it. if you want a hot hatch get anything other than a mini (GTI, MS3, WRX) and youre good
@mikethebeast1012 I have stated that the others would be more comfortable but there is no way on earth a stock cooper s works would get beaten by a Golf GTI on a track or road. You comment on the mini's cornering is all it's got going for it, well that says it all about your perspective. The Mini driver screwed up by having a passenger first of all. One of the main components of the Mini is the power to weight ratio, one adult between 160-180lbs in a car that weighs less than 2,000lbs is a big difference.

The mini cooper s r56 comes with 207hp stock and by the looks of the video it definately doesnt have 260hp or it would of spanked the vw because the vw is heavier. so the 10hp difference wouldnt have made the vw win when it weights 100's of lbs more.

I am proud of it actually. Run it on pump gas at 11 psi and she pulls off 12 second passes at the track all day long. Swap off the slicks at the end of the day and drive it home. I could make it go faster, but reliability is more important to me.

@mikethebeast1012 you jerk you dont have to say all the time about the tiny backseat...the only thing that counts on sports cars is the performance and not much the interior..considering your 2.0 and my 1.6 it is physical of yours to take the first place because of 400cc+...although the mini is pressed (1.6-175hp) it is amazing on turns and on accelerating for its domain...
@Rafsavidisoj interior IS important even in sports cars, neither of these cars are sports cars tho, they are sport compacts or hot hatches, they are not sole purpose vehicles, they are supposed to serve multiple roles, something the mini doesn't do at all. The small size is a big deal and just one of many reasons the mini is such a terrible choice

I hate people saying Mini is expensive for what it really is. Well...an GTI isn't much cheaper. More power...perhaps, but the MK5 was one of the worst GTI versions in history, like the mk4!! (I guess mikethebeast1012 drives a Polo TDI! LOL) The MK6 is a really great car. I tried one. But I wouldn't change it for my Cooper S R56. Got little less Power....but soooo much more fun!!! MINI is an art of life. Not just a car!!
P.S.: If you don't like small and unuseful cars...get a Voyager!!!

The GTI is a nice car, however it doesn't come NEAR the mini in handling and teconology (specially since my 2011 cooper S has double vanos and twin scroll turbo)
I beat a Mustang V8 with my mini on the circuit...and def i beat a GTI.
Cars have to balance speed/handling...They are not designed to run on a straight line only (well american cars ARE)
A carrera beats a mini for just 2 seconds on a sprint... 38,000 a second extra LOL.

The R56 cooper S i just bought hasn't gone on track... i have to wait till the engine/brakes settle to the altitude so i can push it to the limits... about 1,000 km (i'm from mexico, no miles here LOL)
Oh and guys!! even though the GTI is built in Germany, the engine IS manufactured in the Puebla plant, its a GREAT engine.

Love the hot hatch's but no way the GTI keeps up with the R56. The R32's around town can't hang with my R53 most days. Our R56 is a freakin' rocket compared to our 2 R53's. Even the big motor A4's bow to the 56, forget the lowly VW stuff.

I have proved with figures that JCW is as fast as GTi. But you insist on using america's price to give vw advantage and compare cooper s with gti. Out of all countries in europe and japan, you pick US. That doesn't end my curiosity. Explain how a car made in germany costs less in US than in germany when it has to be transported to US? Price should go up even more once you factor the import tax.

GTi is £15,563 in US and £24290 in UK. Again you missed the point. Please read my comment again. If some costs 'x' amount to produce and costs 'y' amount to transport, total cost should be x+y not an amount lower than x. My suspicion is VW makes cars locally and MINI doesn't. And mini hasn't been in america for a long time. So bigger premium. GTi doesn't perform better than JCW. It just comes with more stuff. Better bang for buck? yes. Better performing? no.

@cytomatrix vw does build cars in america, however the gti is not, it is ONLY built in germany so that ends your curiosity right there. more space for the money_VW, more features for the money_VW, better performance for the money_VW, those are facts, the prices and laptimes prove it, take any mini and compare it with a VW of comparable price and it gets destroyed, even though the VW is carrying around the extra weight of the electronics, and just being bigger. there really isnt much to argue

@cytomatrix i guess i should amend my statements, the mini has the clear advantage or short tracks while the GTI has the clear advantage on longer tracks, i also never said equipment affected performance, but when the same price can get you a car with FAR more equipment, FAR more space, comparable performance (depending on the track) the GTI wins. "only a couple thousands" that is a HUGE price difference unless your rich when you wouldnt buy either car anyway, hundreds would be acceptable

Everywhere else GTi is way way more expensive than cooper s. JCW is more comparable to GTi. Mini has better handling and acceleration but ok top speed. Golf has better top speed but less handling and acceleration compared mini. And of course better features lol. Thats why many people buy mini instead of golf despite the price tag.

@mikethebeast1012 Here we go again. I said countries in europe and japan. In germany GTi = 27275 euros, cooper s = 23650 euros, JCW = 28900 euros. In japan GTi = 3,680,000, cooper s = 3,030,000, JCW = 3,900,000. GTi closer to JCW than cooper s. What does bang for buck has anything to do with performance? Cooper s and JCW comes with more stuff than standard mini. So different wouldn't be huge. I think you are repeating yourself just to annoy me. This will be the last post from me.

@mikethebeast1012 i have a stock 2008 r56 mini cooper s as well. When i clocked the 0-60 on the dyno at my shop, i got between 6.4 and 6.8 every time. I tested it 10 different times. Also take into consideration the Sport mode button, it re-maps the acceleration and gives you a little bit more. I think both cars are great cars, however, i race on tight road courses, so my preference leans towards the Mini.

JCW and Gti have similar prices in all countries in europe. Even in Japan price difference is only £3k. If we were to believe in manufacturers claims, VW has slower acceleration than JCW. For laptime check my previous comments, JCW and GTi are close. What does equipments and interior space has anything to do with performance of the car?

A JCW mini is faster than the r32 in the nurburgring. Don't know where you get that from. And if you seriously think it getting beat by a few seconds out of a near 10 minute lap time is "destroying" it then that's a joke. 3 seconds would mean alot more if it was a 1.5 min lap time.

I've just bought an S works 07 and it's great fun! The mini is more the drivers car as was the original. The golf would be more comfortable with both cars built to a high standard. I think the mini looks and sounds better. Don't buy a cooper s, buy a cooper s works!

@craigpesch the GTI not only out performs the mini, but it has a backseat big enough for adults, a full size trunk (both are missing in the mini), most wouldl say nicer looking especially the new ones, and better interior. the mini may handle well but thats all its got going for it. if you want a hot hatch get anything other than a mini (GTI, MS3, WRX) and youre good

You comment on the mini's cornering is all it's got going for it, well that says it all about your perspective. @craigpesch the problem with your argument is that the GTI is comparable to a cooper S in price, and for that price the GTI is not only more comfortable but a FAR better performer. the works is more comparable to an ED30 GTI or even an R32 in price both of which are also not just more comfortable but FAR better performers. so yes its handling is all its got going for it because it will get destroyed on the street or the track by the comparable model golf

The Mini driver screwed up by having a passenger first of all. One of the main components of the Mini is the power to weight ratio, one adult between 160-180lbs in a car that weighs less than 2,000lbs is a big difference.

The mini cooper s r56 comes with 207hp stock and by the looks of the video it definately doesnt have 260hp or it would of spanked the vw because the vw is heavier. so the 10hp difference wouldnt have made the vw win when it weights 100's of lbs more.

I would know. I have a turbo'd D-Series SOHC VTEC engine under the hood of my 95 Civic Hatch. I also drive a new R56 Cooper S, and have driven a GTI and overall my MINI stomps them. For 200 hp they feel pretty fuckin slow.

I am proud of it actually. Run it on pump gas at 11 psi and she pulls off 12 second passes at the track all day long. Swap off the slicks at the end of the day and drive it home. I could make it go faster, but reliability is more important to me.
My B-series turbo project that's upcoming should make 400 hp easily and run in the 10s. Sorry to hear about your luck on the Cobalt. What a shitbox. Fast, but other than that they're a rental car.

@mikethebeast1012 you jerk you dont have to say all the time about the tiny backseat...the only thing that counts on sports cars is the performance and not much the interior..considering your 2.0 and my 1.6 it is physical of yours to take the first place because of 400cc+...although the mini is pressed (1.6-175hp) it is amazing on turns and on accelerating for its domain...

@Rafsavidisoj interior IS important even in sports cars, neither of these cars are sports cars tho, they are sport compacts or hot hatches, they are not sole purpose vehicles, they are supposed to serve multiple roles, something the mini doesn't do at all. The small size is a big deal and just one of many reasons the mini is such a terrible choice

@whygodrums10 the GIANT speedo that is the entire dash is just unnecessary and obnoxious, the mini while getting outperformed (and yes a mkv GTI runs faster laptimes than even a cooper works and costs FAR less, those are facts) its also missing all the amenities. space for cargo is non-existent, room for 4 adults comfortably is not in the realm of possibility, the GTI has all those and faster laptimes, and unlike the works there are still faster versions of the golf available

I have auto leveling xenons with headlight washers, heated seats, a harmon kardon stereo that is loads better than anything a golf has to offer, rain sensing wipers, cant get cloth interior, TWO sunroofs. You dont buy a hatchback for cargo room or passenger comfort. The fact that you're even bringing that up is pointless. Did I mention my mini has a LSD from the factory? as far as a MKV being faster than JCW. dont believe it.

@whygodrums10 a mini is FAR from a BMW just because BMW owns mini doesnt mean anything the quality in the mini is nowhere near a real BMW, a VW is not essentially an Audi. the only feature you named that isnt on a GTI is dual sunroof it has everything else, in fact my 99 Jetta also had all but the xenons, those are standard items on nicer cars and not such a big deal, harmon kardon? who cares if you dont have touch screen nav (gti has it, mini doesnt)

@whygodrums10 actually most (if not all) people who buy hatch backs buy them with their versatility in mind (interior space) which the mini has none of. also its proven that the GTI doesnt need the LSD to compete. heres the lap times around the ring:

believe it or not those are the facts the S compares in prices with the GTI and the GTI not only destroys the S but beats the works and costs more than $6k less

@cytomatrix i agree with the laptimes but they do nothing but prove my point, a JCW (which costs significantly more than the GTI) performs marginally better than a GTI. you speak of "europe" as if its 1 country, mini is british while VW is german 2 separate very different countries, it makes no sense to compare prices in either home country (or most places in europe since distance from origin affects price) making the US a great neutral comparison of prices, so for the price VW is much faster
