@bbishoppcm Hi i no this post is a bit old now, but just wondering if you can help me. I have a 42in plasma screen from samsung its about 5 years old now. When i turn on the tv all i get is the screen flashing over and over black sometimes a few different colours. Would this be a problem with the buffer boards you are talking about or could it be a resistor problem. Any help will be most appreciated Thanx Matt
Hello, good video man. YOu know, I own a 50 inch Phillips (ambilight) as well and I need to replace the upper lower buffers and the y sus board. where can i find/get these guys... It's kind of hard.
I have a Magnavox 42MF231D/37 that has two blown capacitors on the Y-Main and a burnt y-upper board. i hear is two clicks when turning on, no picture. I am going to replace the y-upper buffer and the two caps... can you think of anything else that i should check that could cause this stuff to happen? You know... I don't want to spend all this money and have it be something else that caused the caps to vent and then the y-upper to burn....
I have a similar TV (has the ambilight, and no recall), and the top horizontal half has now a 4inch black line , should I buy 1 buffer board and 1 Y SUS board?
I am looking for discontinued spare parts for Philips plasma TVs. Where can I find the original circuit board for older Philips TV, ideally manufactured before 2007, so I can pull out the spare part? Thanks
Thank you for showing us this video, i have the same exact 42" phillips plasma but mine has the ambilight feature, do you think ill have any issues with that or is this pretty much the same process for mine? Also, where is the best and/or cheapest place to purchase these buffer boards? Are the buffer boards the same as a "Y board" ive heard mention in other videos? Thanks!
@izzyiskool Wow! Those Ambilight models were recalled for fire hazard reasons... I'd check with Philips to determine if your set isn't still covered. The buffer boards plug into the Y-SUS board, your set has two buffer boards and one Y-SUS board. Typically, both boards AND the Y-SUS should be replaced at the same time. You can often find these parts on Ebay.
@bbishoppcm I just checked my Seriel number, model number and buildate and mine does NOT fall under the recall unfortunately. Mine was built nov 2005. Well my TV does the exact same thing you've posted a video of, and for sure the bottom does it but the top also kinda does it too, moreso in the center to upper center area so im thinking about getting both buffer boards. Should i also get the Y board? Mine doesn't seem to be making the flaky white dots... yet.
@bbishoppcm , my has no picture, no sound. i have replaced 2 popular know failed caps no avial, then replaced the whole power supply still no avail. TV will respond to ON/OFF with remote + green LED will flash when hit the remote. Both buffer boards were replaced 3 yrs ago. Do u think is the Y-Main board? Any ideas...?
I have the same t.v. the color is coming and going . the picture is fine the color has a yellow tint to it with color . do you have any idea on how to fix this ? I would appreciate any help that you can give.
technology today...I remember back in 1965 working on tv's they were all tube sets back then...later came transistors and now surface mount components. I sort of miss the old tube tv's..many times you could fix them just by pulling out the tubes and taking them to the drug store, they had a tester there. You would find the bad one and buy a new tube and plug it in and fix your tv.
My 42PF7320A has symmetric pinkish vertical noisy lines that spans from top to bottom and moves with the picture. Could it be the upper and lower buffer boards or something else? Thanks
Glad to know Im not the only one with this problem, mine was working fine then the picture went out. Had the red blinking light then it went away, the green light came back except no picture.. Philips said there's a usb update for it except... There's no picture!
How do you test the voltage settings and adjust them?. My philips plasma just keeps on flashing multi colors constantly... Could it be voltage settings?. I have new buffers put in and y-sus repaired!.There is still the problem.. .
Hey i just wanted to thank you for this video I have the same tv that broke. I replaced both upper and lower y boards and fixed it for a total of 160 bucks. It was easy fast and way cheaper doing it myself then paying 800.00 for a repair shop...
Wonder if this would work on a CRT-based Toshiba ColorStream, with 2 inches of horizontal lines at the top of the display, for about 3 minutes after you turn it on. Gets really annoying, but it's not mine...
@CarnelProd666 CRT sets are nothing like Plasma or LCD sets when it comes to how a picture is generated and produced; they use entirely different components and techniques.
@bbishoppcm Thanks! Looking back, it appears that the actual tube itself may be going bad, and maybe one or more capacitors, if that is even possible, too, because it has a whistling sound for about a minute after you turn it on. Don't know ANYTHING about the internals in a CRT, I specialize in the laptop LCD field...
@CarnelProd666 late reply, I know, but it sounds like the caps in the vertical circuit. This has been a common problem in Toshiba CRTs for years. Inexpensive fix if you know what you're doing :)
very interesting. I used to work at Best Buy back when those were new, and I saw the same thing happen to Philips display sets. It seems to be a common issue.
i have that exact tv and i get the red blinking lights, i unplugged the y sus board and i got no red lights..i figured its the y sus board and not the buffers..is it true i have to replace all the boards or can i just replace the y sus board
We have an LCD version of this TV that looks almost exactly the same, the motherboard blew on it as well. We had to have a repair guy come out to fix it.
What does the buffer board do? Are they known to commonly fail like that? What's the deal with the menu screen changing colour and dimming, is that some kind of screen burn protection system? Are you going to upload another video when you've finished working on the TV and showing the cooling fans you talk of installing? Will you need to drill holes in the case to install the fans? Do these TV's have the Philips Ambilight system that I've heard people talk about in the past?
@Lachlant1984 Jesus Christ you ask alot of questions! The buffer boards are part of the plasma engine, which essentially operate the plasma panel itself; the display is dimming because the TV's refresh rate is out of sync with the camera; i might upload a video of the TV after it's fixed; i'm not adding fans; this does not have the ambilight feature.
@bbishoppcm Yes I realize I ask lots of questions, but I've very curious, I've never seen inside a Plasma TV and I've never even repaired a TV, perhaps i do ask too many questions, but I don't want to bother you, I'm just interested.
@bbishoppcm No offence was taken dude, that's OK. I often have problems understanding other people's sense of humor, so perhaps I misunderstood you, but that's OK, no worries.
You know the same thing happened to my tv I just bought! It was a Sylvania. It had a verticle line running through the display. I had to go and take it back to the store...
