  • The Bark River is so gorgeous.

  • great stuff neb hope this is ok my VRthat is thanks

  • Very cool contest idea, I heard some good things about your channel from another YouTuber I respect so I figure I would sub and give ya a try!

and thank you for your work sir i really enjoy your video's something about your voice just helps me relax

  • Awesome contest. :)

  • Another new subscriber via AussieMark. Good solid perspective on knives with no rubbish. Well done.

  • @1lupus Thanks for the sub and the kind words!

  • thanks for your video's

always happy to see your perspective on knives

  • One thing I forgot to mention is that you must be 18 or older to enter the contest. I am sorry but I have to cut it off there. Also because of your legislators I can't ship to New York.

  • @hedonit Make this in the form of a video!

  • @Nebulax123

i don't think i've thanked you for all your videos before today so consider this just a general thanks not a contest entry

the bark river knife you are offering is an outstanding top prize and the mora is cool too

  • @hedonit Thank you very much! I really enjoy making them for you folks.

  • Packing and Duck Tape (Duct) are notoriuos for gumming up even box cutters. but great handle and polish on that small Kyley. The Contest is amazing. A great Idea for Christmas. May your holidays be merry and sharp. Great Video!

  • I am not a regular reader of Tactical Knives but I am a long time subscriber to Blade. You get wealth of knowledge from magazines but from a select few. I enjoy the various opinions you read and see on the Internet. But one must take the opinions with a grain of salt. I know I have my own opinion but I expect someone else to question it. Also, how comfortable was the small handle on the cKc? Thanks for the contest. Here comes Santa Clause!

  • @mccullenj The handle is very comfortable and gives all the power you would need for this size blade, It make look smaller than it really is like Kyley I have large hands. I have been reading Blade from the start and still have all of mine. I really like Tactical Knives and recommend it highly I just disagree with that one point, don't paint everyone with the same brush comment. I don't know how much more honest a test gets than to do it right there in front of everyone on a camera

  • Interesting to see if you could see a difference in use as to how they sharpen and how they keep that high level of sharpness.

  • As I noted to Cliff below when I got the knife in better light I in the middle of the blade I saw a lump of congealed glue and cardboard and it had to be sanded off. I have increased the edge angle very slightly and will retest this one being more careful of my test media.

  • Hi Bruce, re your opening remarks. I agree there is bad info online, but so too in newspapers and magazines. Might be a case of "old media" fearing "new media". If you pick your sources it is possible to find good information. I think the video format is very good for this. Nice job on the handle, the ivory colour is something a bit different and individual. Congrats on getting near the 100 sub mark. Amazing prizes for your contest, very generous. Best wishes for Christmas and the new year.

  • @AussieMark909 Thanks!

  • Hi Bruce, Big congrats on the success of your subscriber count, your climbing up there pretty fast! Awesome contest, what a cute idea and it sounds like a bunch of fun. You know I'll be trying to add a little something. Some super beautiful gifts too! : )

Great video as always. Gorgeous little knife and sharper than a razor. I couldn't help watching your little furry friend over your right shoulder just sitting there waiting to pounce on a table cloth... : o) Take care! : )

  • Very funny Bruce. The ol' knife hidden in the paper towel trick. Great prizes Santa,..oops I mean Bruce.

  • Bruce, this is ultra generous of you. That Bark River made my mouth water! Seriously, both of those items are very cool! Those will be some lucky winners. :)

  • How hard is the AEB-l?

  • @CliffStamp on that batch the AEBL is 59/60 his first one was 58 in the previous video

  • @knivesandstuff Thanks, looks good so far.

  • @CliffStamp The other difference is that I am now using 3 tempers and Cryo rather than 2. I have found significant difference doing this with O1 and I am hoping it carries over to the N690 and AEBL

  • @knivesandstuff Are you using oil or air?

  • @CliffStamp I think the O1 is oil, the stainlesses I'd have to double check to be honest. I had a nice tour of the Heat-Treat place a couple of weeks ago, but my brain is tired. the heating is done in Fluidised Bed Furnaces, and then I think the quench will be based on the steel, but oil for O1, and air for the others. I'll ask

  • @knivesandstuff I would bet they are using air. If you can get them to use oil you will gain 1-2 points, but more importantly the steel benefits from a more complete martensite formation and less secondary precipitation so you see benefits in corrosion resistance as well.

  • @CliffStamp I assume you are referring to the AEBL with doing an oil quench?

  • @knivesandstuff Yeah, it might have helped to clarify that.

As an aside, Nebulax, the stories are great. Even I get a bit bored watching cutting and I do a fair amount of it, but the side commentary keeps it rolling.

  • @CliffStamp They are using the same system to quench as they do to heat.. its a Fluidised bed which is sand airated with nitrogen I believe. 1 controls the temperature heating up, and then a cooled one is used to quench, so the mass of all the sand draws the heat out at near the rate an oil quench will he told me.. but less mess and a lot more control of things.

  • @knivesandstuff Do you know how hot they are running the soak?

  • @CliffStamp No idea. but I know that they always err on the side of caution with the heat, and I certainly have had nothing but excellent results with every job they do for me. Their controllers are very accurate.

  • @knivesandstuff Yeah, the issue with the higher temperatures is that the grain will blow very quickly on steels like these without the high vanadium content of the common CPM steels. However you should be able to eek out a little more corrosion resistance and hardness at the upper range, but the downside can be pretty severe if there is over heating and it isn't forgiving at all to mistakes.

  • @CliffStamp Just checked with them.. 1050c, 1920f.. to get to 60RC it looks like the tempering is quite low. but I dont expect people to put them in flames or boil them in oil.

  • @knivesandstuff Yeah, that might be a bit of a problem in general, I usually try to avoid stirring campfire coals with mine. That is about as high as you can go with AEB-L. Are they doing cry before or after the tempering?

  • @CliffStamp 1 before, 2 after.

  • @knivesandstuff That is impressive, those edges should be a dream to sharpen as there should be almost no retained austenite. What it the draw temperature 375 or so?

  • @CliffStamp The steel sharpens like butter. I swear the O1 at 62RC, and this at 59/60 just sharpens the same as when I was doing O1 57RC with 2 tempers and no cryo.. and the stronger edge is definately easier to get sharp. I honestly have no idea about the finer details of the HT.. I'm like Captn Picard.. "Make it so!" lol

  • @knivesandstuff Yeah, I definitely prefer the latter. I don't mine sharpening for friends, but when they drop off the 50-55 HRC stainless blades with the huge grains and soft edges which are ridiculous for burr formation it is fairly annoying compared to what you are describing where the steel gets sharp almost by accident as you are just forming the edge.

  • @CliffStamp I will let Kyley reply to that as I I am not sure I think it is 60 or over. When I got the knife in better light I found a small lump of congealed cardboard and glue on the edge. A few swipes and it was razor sharp again. I have increased the angle on the edge and will re-test it being more careful with my test material no edge damage was noted.
