  • I still remember the moment in which Peter appeared dressed as a flower! Then the Apocalypse, indeed the DELIRIUM! I WAS THERE!

  • 4:36...ha, Peter shaking his groove thing!

  • Anyone else get here by searching giant bacon ball

  • This song is the ULTIMATE piece of music for me. It's a trip through the very bottom of our consciousness... the first four times I heard this masterpiece I cried on the ending part... it's out of this world. The version live in Shepperton 1973 is especially amazing. Damn, I wanna be a Prog God too!

  • gabriel's pupils are so big it makes you wonder if he ever had irises at all... oh, just how it should be :)

  • 6 people got stamped "human bacon" by some butchery tool.

  • Do any of you even know what this song's about?!!!

  • @LP101A It's an entire storyline of a couple's adventures through time and space

  • @AtemnoYugi1232 No, it's another view of the events outlined in the Book of revelations from a certain perspective... about the underlying theme... the one you know about but can't form into a useful thought...

  • This is one of the few songs that every time i listen to it, im afraid of becoming crazy. The reward though is a moment of infinite wisdom

  • the best

  • I wonder if gabriel-era Genesis would have passed an x-factor audition :)

  • so little footage of hackett in these early videos. Gotta at least so the early fingertapping technique

  • Genesis + Peter Gabriel + Phil Collins (on drums and shutting up) = sweet sweet sex music

  • @samuelgwhyte Phil is doing backing vocals on this very tune. Hope I didn't ruin your sex life :)

  • @oahiska haha i know but not lead vocals. trick of the tail was good though but gabriel is the man

  • Some of the video comments have caught me off guard.. maybe a little naive? And... whats up with the six dislikes?

  • Comment removed

  • Disturbing slow-motion Gabriel scenes...

  • @MokRodrigues Agree, these slow motoin are annoying, really.

  • When you go down to Willow Farm..........

  • @LiteracyLabyrinth2 to look for butterflies, flutterbyes, gutterflies...

*waering flower costume and dancing around XD

  • Man, I really love when Gabriel plays the flute!

  • @MokRodrigues

You said "Man, I really love when Gabriel plays the flute!" Absolutely beautiful, I agree.

And I think too when he doesn't wear masks!! His pure voice is all that's needed. Why spoil a good thing? I have to close my eyes otherwise and just listen to this awsome sound.

  • @iloveyes1 PG = Peter Gabriel

    PG = Progressive God

  • Phil Collins scares me doing the high voice in 4:26 and 4:32, which, I think, was a distorted voice in the studio version. Sounds like a Disney character voice XD

  • phil collins is a tremendous drummer.

  • Renato Zero era più serio, eheheh... che bei tempi (fiorellini a parte) altro che computer.......

  • There are 6 idiots, at least, that have watched this. I was there. I seen them do this live. With Peter at the FOX, and Phil on the W&W tour at the FOX. I can't find it listed as being one of the times Peter "flew" at the end, but I seen one of the rare times he did. Really great.

  • Classic and timeless...had the opportunity to see Wonderous Stories perform Supper's Ready live last night and it was a reminder of what a classic and timeless composition this is!

  • Genius at work...Viva to the 70's.

  • 4:37, nice

  • 1:56 - LOL

  • Music is pure genius of course, but the stage performance...you just had to be there. It was a different era.

Imagine what would happen now at a live concert if a dude walked out on stage wearing this?

  • sends shivers down ye spine !!!!!

  • YES GUY!!!

    ITS GENESIS:

as your father were young, beautiful, strong and hopeful !!

  • Gabriel was *such* a weird dude. And all the better for it.

  • 6 people got turned to a flower

  • @TwistedAnvil A Flower?

  • @leelee316 If u go down, to Willow Farm...

  • @MoonlightKnight94 Open your eyes! It's such a surprise; they're all full of lies, like The Fox on the rocks...

  • peter gabriel was the first lady gaga

  • @oldgreenbean what?...more respect, peter gabriel is better than lady gaga, tell me, there is a song like supper´s ready that lady gaga sings?

  • I was only refering to the make up, costumes and theatrics. Of course her music stinks :)

  • @oldgreenbean oh ok, don´t worry, but anyway peter gabriel es better than lady gaga

  • @oldgreenbean first of all never put those two in the same sentence ever again. Second Madonna was the first Lady Gaga. Peter Gabriel was and is the one and only Peter Gabriel.

  • masterpiece MASTERPIECE

  • One of my favourites..........

An everlasting song with all te virtuosity of all the band members.

I liked the time when Phil was playing drums and Peter was singing,

    that wasmy favourite time.

I'll think IQ is the best following-up band, if that is possible?!

  • This is a wonderful acid trip...!

This era of Genesis is PURE GENIUS....!!

  • love the walk he does

  • @richardbeaton1 that walk,if you saw him on top of your house roof in the night...you will shit your pants cus that walk at 3:54 its fucking creepy.

  • Amazing how life works sometimes....

They all put up with Gabriel's insanity and broke free!

they become one of the greatest forces in rock history.

    Hail Genesis.

  • Genesis, Six Hours Live 1972-1980 2DVD set, Genesis, The Lamb live at the Shrine 1975 3-disc 2CD/DVD set, Genesis, Live in Montreal 1974 2CD set, Genesis, Live in Zurich 1977 2CD set available at Tommygun Video, see youtube channel for link, video/audio clips and more info

  • @Tommygun1028 Will be ordering some of your great, live DVD's...but money is tight now. Definatly will be buying in the future. This is Iconic music and performances, which will never occur again, in any lifetime or age.

  • @Kristopful Better don't buy it. These are Bootlegs which has been founded and remastered from Fans. You can even download the Videos to burn it on DVDs. Or of course you can use the old methode and trade the DVDs :P

  • I've been recently listening to some of Genesis older works Like Foxtrot and Selling England by the Pound. I gotta say...most impressive

  • Epic beauty....epic performace.....epic musicianship.

Unfortuantly, this kind of music will never performand or composed again. It does not fit in with the presant or future times. I hope that our children will get to hear and know of it. It would be a tragedy if they did not have the chance to hear it.

lies112 Many thanks for upload this iconic masterpiece...which has moved me.

  • omg... its so beutiful... i cant compare any peter gabriel's genesis's songs to phil's ones... peter's ones are sooo many times better ..

  • 1:46 LOL

  • gabriel is weird as hell with his dress-up, ok guys yes can destroy this

  • c'est pas mal, mais yes est meilleur!

  • I don't think anyone nowadays would have the confidence to do something like this.. It's a shame, cos Peter Gabriel makes dressing as a flower look so damn awesome :P

  • They were the best band of all time!!!!!

  • hackett is just incredible throughout and you never get to see him! ugh...

  • I think this song is about the apocalypse and the epic battle between good and evil. Any other thoughts?

  • 3:34

  • Dammit! The most awesome part on guitar@ 0m35s, and they don't show Steve Hackett ! Fuck you, Melody director.

  • It is in my last will and testament that this is played at my funeral ( in full) or no one gets a bean!!

  • LOLOLOL omg this guy was a fag n a half but an awesome artist . but wow

  • @dimenhigh Why are you calling Peter Gabriel a fag. He never had sucked another man's dick or anything.

  • Did Genesis do drugs during the "progressive" era. I'm pretty sure that Peter did some acid and some weed here and there when he was in high school and the early yrs of Genesis.

  • @phoneix91 Genesis were never a band that much into drugs. Peter would get drunk just by the sight of a glass of wine lol! Besides, REAL creativity comes from pure inspirations, WITHOUT the artifice of drugs.

  • At 6:51 watch "ROADIE" fall flat on his arse behind the left of of Phil Collins !

  • @splattfedding I missed that.. I played it back several times....

  • @splattfedding I don't see anything

  • Gabriel was mixed waaaaayyyyyy too low.

  • did anyone in genesis ever take drugs?

  • @skintrade no,,,,,,i don't think so, but it was rumoured that some of the audience members did take drugs, but i could hardly believe that to be true either. drugs are bad....mmkkayy.

  • @skintrade Peter Gabriel in interview of 1980 said he was tripping on LSD before he made Carpet Crawlers

  • Gabriel's prancing around at 3:40 has me in tears every time. And the "YES!" at 4:04 kills me.

    Amazing song though.

  • willow farm always makes me think of the down the rabbit hole scene from alice in wonderland, perhaps peter gabriel had it in mind when he wrote it (along with bill and ben!)

  • @pinkfloydrule27 gabriels idea for Willow farm came from the television show "The Flower Show" which aired in Britain in the '50's and 60's

  • where can i see the costume of the fox with a dress? in what video??

  • the musical box

  • You can see it at bataclan, but it's during musical box for some reason, but what i like better is at shepperton in october 73, he puts on and old mans mask.

  • @rteneycke oh, yes I already saw it......hahaha really good!!!! ;) thanx.....

  • Why do I feel embarrassed when I see Gabriel performing like this even Collins' eyes are rolling round his head looking at him ........

  • Undoubtably the greatest showman of all time, Peter Gabriel, who else do you know who dresses up as a flower and in freaky damn makeup, a knight, a fox in a dress and the list goes on and on!

  • Still in hopes of a "TRUE" Genesis reunion with Gabriel & Hackett. Keep the tour limited to several major worldwide cities: NYC, Chicago, Los Angeles, London, Paris, Rome. DVD it, CD it...and go on your way gentlemen...do it for the Genesis die hards!

  • Without question, one, if not THE greatest, most influential prog bands to exist. And to this day, Peter Gabriel continues to amaze! Genesis kept its "signature" up to the dparture of Steve Hackett. "And then there were three"....and then there was POP! Basically more radio-freindly, accessible songs. It got to the point when it was hard to differentiate Genesis and solo Phil Collins..from a lyrical perspective anyway. Gabriel stands on his own.

  • Great clip, but the T.V. producers must have thought, "Steve" who? How can this idiot director not show Hackett AT ALL throughout the entire first bit of "Ikhnaton", when he is the one soloing? Good grief! I guess they figure, "hey, he's sitting down; no need to show him".

  • strangely enough, the one that looked least ridiculous in this was Gabriel dressed up as a flower!

  • 0:36 =cream!

  • I'm reading a lot of comments about how Peter Gabriel sold out to do commercial disco tracks. Well my interpretation of his actions is that he wanted to produce a commercially successful prog record. A record that rides the fence between radio friendly and avant garde. He tried this method out first with "So" and perfected the idea with "Us". Still, the best example of commercially successfully avant garde record goes to Radiohead for Ok Computer.

  • amazing song i wish they made stuff like this today

  • Peter Gabriel could have also belted out easy the high vocal parts on 1981's "Keep It Dark."

  • He Can't Dance, He is just standing there selling everything :D

  • some of Peters solo work is progressive 'Blood of eden' 'in your eyes' or 'White Shadow' or his cover of 'Suzzane' But what about 'Steam' and 'sledge hammer' that is Michael Jakson. Steve Hackett is always good. Most of the songs Phil Collin did as a solo artist are Bullshit. Tony Banks and Rutheford have lapsed into obsurity. 'Abacab'& 'Insisible touch' are the only two weak Genesis albums.

  • this is all what genesis what was all about, soo great soo beautiful and then Phil Collins killed it all

  • Heard this for the first time...and....really deeply impressive

  • A flower?! xD

  • There's nothing to say, an immortal band...

  • How he walks on stage

I think Phil did Suppers Ready Live alot better, but Peter was also nice, espiacally the Album Version :D

  • @chinwildchicken are you out of your freakin mind one of the most important thing in suppers ready is gabriel deep and changing vocie acording to the son

  • @XXDanyAlfXX

I agree, but I just thought why Gabriel didn't do the I Cant Dance Walk...

Of course he is a good singer, but I prefer Gabes Studio Version, Live Version i Prefer with Phil 77 and 82 ;)

  • @chinwildchicken everyone has and opinion

and i always wonder how any genesis song like suppers ready or "lamb" whill sound whit gabriel mature voice

  • How dare they be so beautiful?

  • this ex genious started recording commercial disco songs like steam and sledge hammer he did it for cash

  • @MrAugustus88

Nice display of ignorance. Your opinions about PG's solo career and disco both seem based on superficial impressions, "genious."

When you are ready to learn that you were wrong (as condemning entire genres of music usually is) feel free to actually listen to pretty much any PG album (not just the 3 songs you have heard on the radio) and "Get The Funk Out My Face" by Brothers Johnson should be a nice introduction to disco for you.

  • @MrAugustus88 He did it as any artist to stay on the curve and to be relevant to an audience just as U2 did where many thought they turned Pop they became even more militant in their messages, just more mocking. Peter knows what he does and he works for Art's sake, nothing more, unless it's charity. Don't knock the boots you haven't walked in.

  • Wow, this is just awesome! Wow we didn't have produce some incredible musicians didn't we? Genesis, The Who, The Beatles, The Kinks, The Faces, Jeff Beck...the list goes on. I struggle to think of many modern musicians that match up to the musicians from the 60s and 70s. What an amazing time for British music it was :-) This song is nothing short of a masterpiece.

  • Awesome performance, Peter Gabriel is simply, simply...BRILLIANT...I also found his touch of humour so funny, when he says ' A flower?....Une fleur !'...right before proceeding with his song...A way of showing his humour before a French-speaking audience I guess...

  • DORGAS DORGAS ARIIRIIRIARIRIA, brinks, Genesis <3

  • the Mozarts of progressive

  • @FilmyResidue the Mozarts of music:)

  • Simply, the best band ever assembled really. Peter Gabriel was the engine that drove the whole thing. Hackett, Banks, Rutherford, Collins and Phillips shared his vision which moved rock music to a higher level. Suppers Ready is the proff.

  • Believe it or not, Gabriel and the rest of Genesis were not big drug heads. Gabriel I think said he tried pot a few times.

  • No, that's not true, it's just that you have to concentrate and think about this music, not like the bubbles and popcorn we get fed by the charts today.

  • Peter gabriel or james maynar keenan????

  • @Ippiti88 Aaarggghh !! Can't choose !! Both are my two favorites vocalist...Period

  • @Ippiti88 lol ya i noticed that too haha

  • The best Genesis track Ever!!!

    23 minutes of prog bliss

    So greatful for this!

  • If Peter Gabriel was the soul of Genesis, the Steve Hackett was definitely the heart of the band.

After Hackett left, Genesis was a band which had it's heart torn out.

  • banks is Genesis.....more so than given credit for

  • The Gabriel era of Genesis is the very definition of 'creative'.

  • Unforgettable at the IU Purdue cafeteria in 73ish. Less than 1,000 people at this most dynamic concert and all were walking around in a stunned euphoria afterward.

  • I saw them in Miami in one those old barocque movie theater circa 1972. The costumes, the theme, the theatrics, the 9/8 just friggin stunned me and my friends. These lyrics till move me to this day.

  • FAR OUT, MAN!!! this is better than the 72 french version. this is truly their crowning achievement along with "the lamb lies down". it brings me back to a specific "trip" and or time in my life when i was 15 or 16 riding 4 wheelers on pyschedelics!!! good times. and the tape(it was 1990 or something!) or i mean cd, of "FOXTROT" is highly recommended, folks!!!

  • What did Steve do to annoy the camera man?!

Possibly the most non existent footage of him I've ever seen. What with that, being split into YouTube sized chunks and the crappy sound, how is it that this is still manages to be one of the best videos ever.

  • Obra maestra

    Genial!

  • Go on Pete, shake your money maker. XD

    I love this.

  • it's obvious back in the day...there was more freedom to be creative .

  • well maybe this

  • LA OBRA MAESTRA DEL ROCK SINFONICO

  • Progresivo.

Si se llegan a converger, pero Genesis es clasico prog.

  • Did anyone noticed that Peter, from 4: 36-4: 42 was shaking his.........you know.

  • peter sings better in studio but the show is amazing :D

    i love his costumes

  • What is more commercial, "Sledgehammer" or "abacab"?

  • Comment removed

  • This clip is just basically made for people trippin on acid. everything is put in place as the same for TOOL clips. all to make your trip crazy.

  • It works well. It feels like im on a trip without even being 'on' anything.

  • he's eating out the marrow in your back bone

  • Gabriel got the inspiration for the flower mask ( sung during Willow Farm ) from the 50/60s BBC children's programme, Watch With Mother.

Bill and Ben, the Flowerpot Men was part of this series. In between them there was a character called weed, who was essentially a sunflower. You should watch it - you'll love it. : )

  • Suppers Ready is and awesome...altough Gabriel as a flower is kinda weird =) the way he walks is funny lol

  • What's with the weird slo-mos of Gabriel in instrumental passages?

  • "A flower?" Genius, just genius. I don't care what others think about this song, or if it is good or not, I just know I love it. It's a shame none of my friends would never understand the beauty of this masterpiece.

  • i agree fully

  • awh the apocalypse in 9/8ths is my favorite part of the song.

  • We will rock you, rock you little snake,

We will keep you sad and warm

  • Hey Fitasc9(?)...douchebaggus maximus...get it? Gabriel may have never been as popular as Genesis, but at least I can stomach his later music vs. the POP shit that Genesis became!!

  • i <3

    8:23-9:03

  • Peter Gabriel was the "Lord of Lord's, King of King's" when it came to vocals, so all you people who have no idea about the abilities of genuine rock stars , keep your stupid comments to yourself!!!!!

  • @IVANP62 nah freddy mercury was much better vocalist than petter gabriel

  • @bluecrow00 No way...

  • Don't forget "In Your Eyes!"
