Plus various weapon defenses and strikes and kicks to help keep the distance. However GJJ is exclusively based on leverage and the Gracie's have proven their brand, has ANY other martial art been able to make any measurable claim to defeat (or escape) multiple opponents?
@daimyosama well thats not entirely true, i mean you can punch if you want to. learning jiujitsu doesnt make it so your body is incapable of punching.
Yeah right. You shoot someone you go to prison or spend a fortune on attorney's fees while in jail. Gracie Jujitsu is superior to firearms. Why? Everyone lives and the bad guy get's punished. By the way if Kempo can't work against one person than it has no chance in hell against two or three. Gracie Jujitsu in my opinion is the only form of self defense a woman has against a rapist or a small child has against a bully twice his size. It's ingenious

@joel331974 Agreed, people tend to forget about that, Im 15 and BJJ and Boxing works good for me because I love it and train hard in it, once I turn 18 I'm gonna get gun permit. Ground fighting is excvellent, on the ground. But not against a standing fight and not all fights go down, many more stay upright. @MoshpitAchilles You need to know something, don't think anyone who's studied for any period of time hasn't learned ground fighting skills. You kids assume way too much.
@Sabonim4thdan I didn't assume that bullshit, and I gave you no reason to believe I did.
What's your beef, bro? You're the one assuming false claims. Also, I honestly didn't mean to offend you, but maybe you're the type of person that gets offended when told, "No offense." I don't know haha
@MoshpitAchilles I've actually met 3 of Gracies. they're great GROUND fighters everyone of them. I didn't get offended, ground fighting does NOT suck, but if you're facing more than 1 opponent you'd better pray you don't end up on the ground. Ground fighting in only 1 aspect of martial arts.
You lectured me about how things I already know for some odd reason... for no reason actually; that had nothing to do with anything. I don't even know why you brought that up.
All I said was that JJ sucks on the feet.. and then you responded with something out of left field.
.. to be honest you've left me quite confused. I am going to stop replying because this is obviously leading to more of your words of wisdom.
@MoshpitAchilles Little boy, I didn't lecture about a damn thing. you're one of those kids that thinks your brain is twice the size it actually is. you watch TV and think you're an expert on something. Spend a little time in the real world then make comments. Until then, take your stupid ass somewhere else.
@MoshpitAchilles "moshpit" explains it all. you're still in the teenager mindset. when you grow up and enter the "REAL world" you'll look back and realize you didn't know shit.
Yes, then your in the street with three guys threatening you turning physical when your with your girlfriend or children or whoever. Then let it go to the ground ? BJJ is THE best sports fighting system without a doubt, and under rules beats all far and wide. But in reality for self defence, in that instance, when you'd have your head kicked in. A more aggresive training based system which trains specifically for reality and the street, and adds in harsh techniques....KRAV MAGA BABY ! :D
"three guys threatening you turning physical when your with your girlfriend or children or whoever. Then let it go to the ground?"
No, you run away and/or call for help. You definitely don't try to take them all on, unless your girlfriend or kids know BJJ. You cannot fight three people off. You think Krav Maga can solve this situation? Krav Maga guys can't even fight off one Boxer or MMA practitioner. You're not gonna win against three people, which is why there are no vids proving you can.
@Ljenkins9000 I'm not talking about jiu-jitsu where 1 person grapples with another person. I'm talking about self-defence. Krav Maga is a proven system used by the IDF to defend it's people, special forces, CIA, FBI....they all rely Krav Maga. Fighting somebody when there trying to kill you is different to sporting rules BJJ, there are no rules. We both agree BJJ is the best system for sport, not when its you vs 3, maybe with knives etc. You will get injured, but its about survival
gracie jiu-jitsu is sick but damm martial arts is suppose to have respect and honor..Royler showed no respect..he could kick my ass but whats he going to do if 10 hood niggas ran up in him..respect son.. show it.don't be an arrogant little biatch
@theleet4201 Well, actually....the kenpo guy showed up unannounced and interrupted a class just to call out the gracies. as the story goes, royler wanted to arrange a fight for later but the kenpo guy insisted on fighting right away. You can see the room is full of students of the gracies.
@theleet4201 If you were at ur house playing with your kids some guy walked in ur house unanounced saying hey your a pussy lets fight you gonna show respect?
"he could kick my ass but whats he going to do if 10 hood niggas ran up in him..respect son"
I don't know but one thing's for sure is you should definitely be afraid of all the scary black people out there who are always plotting to kill and gang rape you. Keep doing your katas/compliant training/wrist grab defenses which will definitely allow you to fight off 30 armed black ninjas, even though you won't be able to beat one BJJ white belt. Us "sport" people will never learn though.
at 00:7 he had gracie at a great spot when he had his arms around him like that
when he messed up was when he let go with one arm to hold himself up off the ground he should off held on for dear life and would have eventually had the top
It never ceases to amaze me that people buy into these silly bjj videos. Rule sets and circumstances are set up to highly favor the bjj player... plus, who is the kempo guy? Didn't look like he knew Kenpo to me.
@functionaldrills let me guess u are 280 lbs 5'6 and have a black belt in tkd..........and by the way there were almost no rules in the first ufcs and royce gracie whos not even one of the best gracies kicked everyones ass. have u been living under a rock by any chance??????
Come on now, andyqban, show me you have some logical reasoning skills.
Royce Gracie won fights until the other fighters figured out what he was doing and how to stop it. Once he started losing, he stopped fighting. And he if he's not the best Gracie, why's he the only one who won? He's not the only Gracie who fought...
Where have the Gracies been lately? They're more interested in teaching than fighting.
What is it they say: Those who can: do. Those who can't: teach.
@functionaldrills, Looked like Kenpo to me, and I have been doing and still do Kenpo for 4 years. FYI, there were absolutely no rules what so ever in that fight, nor is there in most of the closed door Gracie fights your seeing from many years past.
"Rule sets and circumstances are set up to highly favor the bjj player"
Oh this is one of my favorites. Yes the rule set did favor grappling. By allowing it.
In a no rules situation like these vale tudo fights or the early UFCs, BJJ was in fact favored by there being no rules, just like a street fight. It's when you introduce stupid rules (like rounds, time limits, ref stand-ups, no grappling at all), basically every rule ever invented in combat sports, that other arts can overcome grappling.
The emergence of mixed martial arts competitions like UFC have demonstrated that when a fight goes to the ground, you need to know what to do, or you're toast.
But anyone with actual experience with "real" fights(i.e., mostly cops) know that the ground is the last place you want to be in a fight.
Nevermind that onlookers get free hits on you while you're engaged with your opponent, but even against your best triangle choke, an opponent can pull an unnoticed knife and shank you with it.
That's very true. I'm learning Japanese jujitsu and we learn tons of ways to get up and avoid getting stomped on. I'd rather throw my opponent and be standing ready to kick their head and looking for his friends than end up in a mount essentially defenseless against onlookers, like you said.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with learning Japanese jujitsu for self defense, in fact I studied a bit myself when I was younger.
But in spite of what I said before, it still serves you well to cross train in ground fighting. If nothing else, learn the escapes. I'm not sure if that's what you were talking about when you said you learn tons of ways to get up.
Also, wen facing a jiu jitsu fighter, you can always take off your shirt. That makes the use of jiu jitsu much more complex since many of the techniques requires cloth grabbing.
SHUT UP I have had alot of situations with more then one you are in no condition to say shit!!!understand striking !!works...yeah and then you break your fist...hhhmm..I have seen a ton of things!!!and trust me if you can't beat one guy you are not going to beat 2........train and shut the fuck up!!take of your clothes??maybe your pants..lol
Jiujitsu is trully more efective when there is only 2 fighters involved.
The problem lies when there are more than 2 fighters (99% of the real life combat situations) where the jiu-jitsu fighter exposes himself completely to an third person attack.
In that case, the jiu jitsu fighter will be seriouly injuried by the third person and the fighting tecnique becomes useless.
Also if the other fighter has a weapon (firearm or blade) running up to him and grabbing isnt a smart thing to do
Umm.... so, trying to strike with a guy who has a gun/blade is smart? Don't use the running away argument because if someone runs faster than you then you gotta have an answer to protect yourself.
If you get close enough it's very hard for someone to aim with a gun and easy for you to disarm/take him down (imagine a vicious dog mauling the arm that's holding the gun, becomes very hard to shoot at dog).
you dumb bitch there isnt a martial arts made that can defend firearms......or any martial art that can beat more than one person..if your told other wise its a lie...people still just cant take ground fighters winning
there is krav mag that teaches how to defnd against firearms. but you are right about fighting multiple attackers. if anyone tells you that they can, they are obviusly lying.
you cant defend firearms from a distance. and more than one person is posible, just not probable. as long as uve got alot of space ull be alright if u kno what ure doing. stand up is a GREAT thing to know. its just as important as ground fighting u just need to learn to do both so u have an answer for all situations.=]
@nickdiazgroupie123 Thats true. But consider this.......if you were attacked by more than one person and had no where to run, would you rely on groundfighting techniques or something along the lines of Karate, muay thai, wing chun, or maybe even kali? Bjj is one of the best 1on1 systems in the world. But, it doesnt cover all scenarios of self-defense. please be more open minded. (that goes for everyone!)
"if you were attacked by more than one person and had no where to run, would you rely on groundfighting techniques or something along the lines of Karate, muay thai, wing chun, or maybe even kali?"
Muay Thai yes. Kali if I'm comfortable with walking around everywhere with two sticks in my hand. Karate only if it's Kyokushin Karate. Wing Chun on the other hand will get you killed. And yes, I'd rely on BJJ as soon as it goes to the ground.
@nickdiazgroupie123 well there are stuff for example aikido that teaches u how to react and defend against a gun in ur face with pressure point crap that isnt even allowed in the ufc but an inch from the face isnt always the case either
@joelaka3pac123 "well there are stuff for example aikido that teaches u how to react and defend against a gun in ur face with pressure point crap that isnt even allowed in the ufc"
See this is the reason for sites like Bullshido and all the people who bag on TMAs. So many people actually believe shit like this which WILL get you killed if you try it. Even easily proven BS, like "pressure points aren't allowed in UFC". They'll believe it anyways though. Bad TMAs (like Aikido) get people killed.
both arts have there merits . Kempo in its full form has ground fighting and grappling . If you train in one area you will all ways have that over your opponent as jui jitsu has with both.I dident see the kempo dude even move he was rigid and could of used elbos and knees to the head as he closed the distance. dident look real to me
I've done both. BJJ is not realistic when you have parking blocks, curbs, people who will not stand there and let you break their friend's arm, glass, cement. Good sport, not at the top of th real deal list.
I know Rickson Gracie cross trains just like all the all successful MMArtists. Yep Keith Hackney beat Yarbourough but Royce beat Keith. Why do you have so much hate for BJJ guys?? BJJ will always be a big part of MMA.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Jiu Jitsu is nothing more than fucking dog fighting...your on the ground almost 90% of the time..the point of a fight is to not fall down. Jiu Jitsu is just pathetic, the guy didn't even look like he was using technique, but actually just shoving the guy on the floor and sitting on him. Kempo is much more detailed and strategic and you are actually standing up and stay up for a fight instead of falling down and do random things.
LMAO do you know what that is? That is REAL fighting. That's how a real fight would look. If you don't think so then you're in denial and don't like fighting for what it is. If going to the ground was so random then the Kempo karate guy would've stand just as equal chance as the GJJ guy yet he got dominated you know why? Cause he didn't know GJJ
Had he knew GJJ he wouldn't have been dominated like that
My logic seems simple only because I use the term real fighting in a different sense from the way you're using it.
When I mean real fighting I mean hand to hand combat without the artificial rules of competition, sports, gentleman's agreement whatever.
I was responding to a guy who said Jiu-jitsu looks like shit and it's just all groundwork. My point, was that in a real fight, groundwork is really important and just cause it looks bad doesn't mean you should ignore it.
Actually the Royce Gracie vs Matt Hughes was stopped by John Mcarthy. Let me ask you something since you always make yourself out to be an expert. What was the main mistake that Royce made that was the beginning of the end. Just seeing if you can see an obvious grappling error.
I see how people.keep saying krav maga its way much better. Then tell why in gods name I beat the shit out of a 3 year expert in krav maga in 30 seconds?. you dumb bitch there isnt a martial arts made that can defend firearms......or any martial art that can beat more than one person..if your told other wise its a lie...people still just cant take ground fighters winning
nickdiazgroupie123 3 years ago 24
there is krav mag that teaches how to defnd against firearms. but you are right about fighting multiple attackers. if anyone tells you that they can, they are obviusly lying.
Tyrant9009 2 years ago
you cant defend firearms from a distance. and more than one person is posible, just not probable. as long as uve got alot of space ull be alright if u kno what ure doing. stand up is a GREAT thing to know. its just as important as ground fighting u just need to learn to do both so u have an answer for all situations.=]
perdedor3571 2 years ago
@nickdiazgroupie123 Thats true. But consider this.......if you were attacked by more than one person and had no where to run, would you rely on groundfighting techniques or something along the lines of Karate, muay thai, wing chun, or maybe even kali? Bjj is one of the best 1on1 systems in the world. But, it doesnt cover all scenarios of self-defense. please be more open minded. (that goes for everyone!)

If you train in one area you will all ways have that over your opponent as jui jitsu has with both.I dident see the kempo dude even move he was rigid and could of used elbos and knees to the head as he closed the distance. dident look real to me
wiaraka 3 years ago
Mater of fact the BJJ guy from Fight quest got dropped from a Hawaiian kenpo dude.
67Fbirdman 4 years ago
I've done both. BJJ is not realistic when you have parking blocks, curbs, people who will not stand there and let you break their friend's arm, glass, cement. Good sport, not at the top of th real deal list.
67Fbirdman 4 years ago
True, a lot of BJJ you see around is for competition but the GJJ meant for self-defense is very good.

I know Rickson Gracie cross trains just like all the all successful MMArtists. Yep Keith Hackney beat Yarbourough but Royce beat Keith. Why do you have so much hate for BJJ guys?? BJJ will always be a big part of MMA.

because he still wants his art to be relevant

Jiu Jitsu is nothing more than fucking dog fighting...your on the ground almost 90% of the time..the point of a fight is to not fall down. Jiu Jitsu is just pathetic, the guy didn't even look like he was using technique, but actually just shoving the guy on the floor and sitting on him. Kempo is much more detailed and strategic and you are actually standing up and stay up for a fight instead of falling down and do random things.
Ghostwolf12 4 years ago
bla bla bla I have eaten kempo guys up...enjoy your day...
Paulkiotobjj 3 years ago 2
LMAO do you know what that is? That is REAL fighting. That's how a real fight would look. If you don't think so then you're in denial and don't like fighting for what it is. If going to the ground was so random then the Kempo karate guy would've stand just as equal chance as the GJJ guy yet he got dominated you know why? Cause he didn't know GJJ
Had he knew GJJ he wouldn't have been dominated like that

Real fighting is defined by motive, not by looks. You have the logic of a kindergartner.
TheSenseofTouch 2 years ago
My logic seems simple only because I use the term real fighting in a different sense from the way you're using it.
When I mean real fighting I mean hand to hand combat without the artificial rules of competition, sports, gentleman's agreement whatever.
I was responding to a guy who said Jiu-jitsu looks like shit and it's just all groundwork. My point, was that in a real fight, groundwork is really important and just cause it looks bad doesn't mean you should ignore it.

1. you sound like your 12
2. your an idiot.
3. more research, less posts please.

Actually the Royce Gracie vs Matt Hughes was stopped by John Mcarthy. Let me ask you something since you always make yourself out to be an expert. What was the main mistake that Royce made that was the beginning of the end. Just seeing if you can see an obvious grappling error.

BJJ kick asses here, there, everywhere...
BJJ dominates UFC, Pride, K1 you name it...
This is unquestionable.
Period.

It's typical of BJJ marketing. They will never show you where they got their ass handed to them.
