i remember dancing to this at some place like the Tunnel or Factoria in NYC in 94... Such a brilliant song to lose yourself in - you almost become the sax...
classs!!!i bought this record from Vinyl Mania NYC back in 93,seriously,the guy behind the counter stuck it on,he must have sold about 15 or 16 copies with one play, everyone in the shop jumped on it like a coat of paint.......thank u....p.s R.I.P. VINYL MANIA RECORDS,CARMINE ST,MANHATTAN .N.Y.C.
This is house, Alexeykh, leaning towards the deep end. Acid jazz was barely a term when this record came out, and most of it was what is now called "broken beat" and down tempo. Conversely, there were lots of house tracks with jazz samples, as well as some like this with live instrumentation.
Actually this track is what we call Wild Pitch. Made famous by DJ PIerre, Roy Davis Jr, Felix Da Housecat, and a few others. Roy Davis Jr always had a "Smoother" production style of Wild Pitch Music, especially when you compare his production Techniques to DJ Pierre's. Acid Jazz was alive and kicking WAYYYY before this track was released. We're talking the mid to late 80s when Acid Jazz was very popular in Europe and finally started making waves in the United States.
Yeah, I've only ever connected Wild Pitch with a harder-edged sound than this but, even so, I would only consider it a style of house and not a separate genre. I bought this record when it came out and recognition of acid jazz was just growing in the US. I think the This Is Acid Jazz comp. series began that year too (1993). I'm referring less to the live 80's bands like The Brand New Heavies, and more to the underground vinyl. But my original point was only that this song was not acid jazz.
I believe in me and you and all of us.

If you blindly bought a Strictly release in the early 90s, there was a very good chance you adding a classic to your collection.
