I know many forged or cast wheels off of cars make distinct long sustained chimes when struck. It would be cool to see something that used that to make music, maybe a large installation sculpture?
What kind of pickup is that? What brand? Where can I find one? and how do I make a pickup jack? I'm trying to turn this metal vw beetle toy into an instrument. It has great vibrations with psychedelic sounds and you've inspired me to turn it into an instrument, but I don't know how to install a pickup. So anyone who is reading this and has helpful answers, please reply?
there's a band in Sweden called Detektifbyran. They use instruments like there to make music. for those who find this kind of music interesting you should check the band.
i found this pretty creepy, not insulting him or anyone, i just got a weird eerie workshop kinda feeling, and the sounds were like something you would find in a broken down warehouse.
The pick-up he used in the clock parts unit is a Piezo Transducer/Piezo buzzer. You can get them out of 99% of the little cheap toys that make beeps. Electronic pet toys (tamagochi rip-offs) are a great source because they're so cheap. You buy the toy for $0.50 - $1.00 and rip that out and you have something that would cost $5 at RadioShack.
what i liek about this vid is that if you have any junk around and it makes some sort of sound then you can do wat this guy is doin so then your not chucking out the stuff and making good use out of it
Eh. . .three stars. A little cooler and more intent than circuit bending, but nothing really exceptional. It would take a serious composer to take his stuff and actually make 'music' out of them, rather than just a cacophony of assorted and random sounds. But any composer who could do that could also make music out of bird asses and rocks.
Still, it would be cool to have some of this stuff, show it off to a visiting girl, get laid.
I can't really understand the appeal of this music. Not to say that there isn't any I, however in my ignorance simply can't understand or appreciate it. It to me seems lacking in coordination.
FUCK YES! Big Science!

It's a piezo pickup and consists of a crystal which generates an electric field when pressure (stress) is applied.
