I guess we're looking at it from different angles. The way I view it, is that she made an honorable attempt to sing a song in a foreign language in her own style and was so gracious to her fans and her South Asian friends. That kind of class and cultural awareness, to me, is superb.

i have heard indian songs .. some singers are whiny some are not .. but that song was a classic that was wrecked by her awful attempt .. the whole heading of her putting indian artist to shame doesnt go well .. the same way if an indian artist attempted one of her songs .. it would be an epic fail ..
didnt mean to step on ur tail bout it .. but if she didnt know the language and couldnt say anything right in the attempt .. it isnt superb at all :)

I guess we're looking at it from different angles. The way I view it, is that she made an honorable attempt to sing a song in a foreign language in her own style and was so gracious to her fans and her South Asian friends. That kind of class and cultural awareness, to me, is superb.

Anyone who thinks that Nelly Furtado did not sing the song well is being stupid. She sung it beautifully and she could sing overall. In terms of other Indian artists, she is a little above average but considering the higher standards for Indian artists and their vocals, she is a lot better than other artists in the world.

To the person who titled this clip as "Nelly...puts Indian Artists to shame". What exactly were you smoking? I mean I give Nelly full marks for attempting to sing this in an alien tongue - and on stage. Great. But, that apart, the end result is pathetic.
To say that Nelly puts Indian artists like Lata and Mukesh to shame, on the basis of this performance is atrocious.
I love Nelly, but her rendition here is comparable to (as also stated by someone else here) beggars singing on mumbai trains!
