Bring The Parthenon Marbles And All Greek Ancient Monuments Back To The Place They Were Born...
Shame On British Government...
Make Your -OWN- Monuments If You Want Someone To Remember You Throught Times, Nowadays You Make -A LOT- Of Money With Our National Ancient Marbles...It's Just A Shame...
Why does this whole story sound to me like buying stolen property?
Buying from the Turkish conqueror was no different than buying from Hitler, French artworks, stolen by Nazis in occupied France, no?
I think that the conservative ruling class of Britain embarrasses its nation and especially the British people who are ethical and respect whats right and most importantly, whose majority wants the return of the stolen artworks.

Athens is a great city and wonderful monuments, there are a game of greece's mythology, egipt, atlantida and north of europe: Age of Mythology is a great game lets play the game!!!
Such a monument to a human genius ...It's fucking standing from the time of the begining of western civilization ...feels like my life is just a moment,as the one of millions of people who were lived and saw the Parthenon during 2500 years ....
I know, I said one was in the British Museum. Indeed most of what is in the British Museum are antiquities (although it's not true that 'there is nothing British in the British Museum.' There is a great deal. I understand your irritation, but the reality is most museums in the world (first-class anyway) are filled with Greek, Roman, and Egyptian pieces. I agree Britain should return the 'Elgin Marbles,' but otherwise, there isn't anything wrong with having Greek pieces in the British Museum.
Regarding free-standing art, it is correct actually considering it happens in every museum and every culture in the world. But I do agree with you regarding the Parthenon. Although one must place partial blame upon the Turks, who gave the marbles to Lord Elgin in the first place, and technically they were not taken down from the building, as they had already been strewn upon the ground by mortar blasts during the Greek-Turkish wars. It's a shame, and I would like to see them return to Greece.
Actually the Turks did not do any damage to the Parthenon. It was the Italians fighting the Turks that hit the Parthenon with mortar and damaged one side.
Most of what Elgin took was taken down, and his permit from the Ottomans Turks was to make drawing ONLY. However, since it was the end of the Ottoman Empire, and there was no control, he took down the Freeze. One ship was sunk in the Mediterranean Sea but the Parthenon artworks were recovered.
True it was the Venetians who actually bombed the temple, but it was during the Greek-Turkish wars. They were still in control of Greece in 1806, and they certainly could have stopped Elgin from taking the marbles, but Turkish officials turned a blind eye.
Yes they did receive bribes, including bribes from Elgin. The Turks were well aware of what Elgin was doing and it did not concern them, primarily because they were being paid off and for another, the Parthenon was being used as an ammunition storage house anyway.

The original caryatids are in Athens' museum (and one in the British Museum), they haven't been lost or anything.

One caryatid was taken by the English thief named Elgin and is now at the so called 'British Museum'.
There is nothing 'British' in the British Museum! It is mostly Greek, Roman and Egyprtian!

Free-standing art is one consideration! Not to say that it is correct! However, taking down a building is pure vandalism!

The Turkish officials did not turn a blind eye! they receved bribes for every visit to the Acropolis, it is well documented.
And there is no Turkish document (Firman ), in the Turkish archives (other documents from the same time exist!).
Only a translated document in Italian is held by the British Museum.
