The bad part about this tool is that it doesn't open wide AT ALL! And, it's not 'new' to the market. It may be new to Gerber, but Leatherman has had the Crunch for years AND Kershaw and Schrade also has locking plier tools.
Gerber always quotes high prices. It's the price you would pay if you bought directly from them. They do that as not to compete with their retail partners. The tool will actually sell for $50 to $70. Just Google "Gerber Grappler", and you'll see retailers already setting prices.
it's not new to the industry. i have a kershaw multi tool that has the vise grip, and i've had it since 2006.

Better looking than the crunch. And pretty cool having a pry bar on a multi-tool. Next they'll have a car jack on a nail clipper.

Nice presentation but he could've tested it for us a little bit. Maybe go slow-mo on the extraction next time.

Looks good, but I am shocked at the price! ;^(

Hope this helps.
