This song is an example of why they say "hindsight is 20-20" The older we get the more foolish we were as a youth. Oh, that my grandchildren and great grandchildren would be able to look back at my age and not be able to relate to this song!
@sherylcpeubanks I agree about the 20-20. Because right now, i would not change a thing. Things are better now than back then. But, If things were worse now, and i had better days? Well then the shoe is on the other foot! lol I pray for Better days lol

A buddy of mine turned me on to this song on a Friday evening driving down the road after a 12 hour day of construction. He likes country and rock just like I do. He told me to just listen and be quiet/tune in he said..... It was 9.00 P.M. dark outside on a country bi-way in Charlottesville, Va. I will never forget the song. The dad part hit me because it is true concerning me, and the painting of the room is me also....so what, if my wife wanted it a different way. It is our house together.
Sometimes we're so stubborn for no good reason. Oh so much time I wasted - "She wanted to paint our bedroom yellow and trim it in blues and greens - but I wouldn't let her - wouldn't hurt nothing
well if you regret not going when your grandma was alive,,, dont u think your grandma would love it if u still went ,,even without her????? think about it! :)
well if you regret not going when your grandma was alive,,, dont u think your grandma would love it if u still went ,,even without her????? think about it! :)
@CorrieBeach What a wonderful thing to say especially to an X husband... Your comment really made me take a good hard look at my situation. I thank you for this.
For all those women I couldn't love, I'm sorry. I took a peices of ya'll with me and moved on. To the one who I love with all my heart, I wish you were still my wife..................To the rest of ya'll in this room, we would all do things different.
Live your lifes folks with no regrets, no fears, and no limits. In the end we're all very strong thick skinned people.
i ♥ this song, it brings tears to my eyes everytime i hear it, especially the second verse.
i wish i couldve spent more time with my dad while he was alive but i never had the chance & i wish i wouldve told my cousin i loved him the last time i seen him before he died but i just said bye & i wish i wouldve went to church with my mamaw when she begged me to but i was & still am afraid of God & boy do i wish i wouldve listend when they said ,girll youre gonna wish you hadnt, but i wouldnt.♥
@TayyBabyyXO When I heard the verse where Kenny sings he wished he'd spent more time with his dad while he was alive brought tears to my eyes. My dad is dying of esophageal cancer and having made to July now is a miracle. This song has really touched me....made me open my eyes and take a real hard look at the man in the mirror....
@TayyBabyyXO that part always gives me chills cuz I don't want to have to say I wish I would've spent more time with my dad when he was alive.. I already have regrets like that with other family members and it hurts everyday knowing I could've spent more time with them but I didn't. I try to spend time with my family as much as possible now.
Whenever I want to go back and drag my heart through the mud. All I have to do is listen to a few songs and this is one of them. It's funny you might forget how much you loved someone but, the songs remember. Ofa lahi atu 'monkey' from 'puppy'.
Man, this song hits home. The only people who wouldnt agree with that, are the ones who deceive themselves. I'd surely of done a lotta things different !!
seems as Bill Anderson gets older his songs get more profound . i saw john conlee do this song on rfd tv and Bill anderson sitting there mouthing the words. A wonderful song that hits everyone in their soul if they are honest.
i would give the very breath that I need to live if I could just get one opportunity to do any of the things that I carry with me 24.7.365 different. Its not about regrets b.c i never regret I just learn not to allow myself to become the definition of insanity....
The first time I heard this song I cried, because I wish I would have done a lot of things different too. Before my Mother passed away. She had begged me to change, but I didn't listen. No one else could give us the same emotion that we'd go through once we realize that we COULD A LOTS OF THINGS DIFFERENTE. But Mr. Kenny could take me back to those days that now I wish to turn the clock backwards and undo a lots of mistakes done during certain time in my life. Thanks Kenny for this song.
I wish I would have went to church on Sunday morning when grandma asked me to .... so true.... do it while your grandma is still alive.... I didn't think I would regret not going at the time, but now I do, oh so much
This song crossed my mind today. I have been in a battle ever since my only daughter (child) got married, had a baby and moved away. I heard about empty nest syndrome, but no one told me the silence is indescribable. I have battled depression all my life but this tops it :( Well what I would have done different is I wouldn't have been afraid to have lots of children. I thought it would be safe having one, as far as money, time, ...was I ever deceived. Just to be needed adds more life.
This is my most favorite song of Kenny Chesney...... Cuz I would of gone on and seen Elvis when I had a chance..... I'd done alot of things different for sure....
my brother played this song alot in the few months before he committed suicide..he really loved and connected with this song..and it was played at his funeral. i come on here from time to time to listen to it to remember him..and to remind myself not to take things for granted, and try not to build up to many regrets.
Man... this hits home and probably for most every one out there, also ! I would of liked to of heard Johnny Cash sing this song. It seems like the type of song J.C. would really relate to like his super rendition of " Hurt " and other sad, painful songs like " Sunday Morning Coming Down ". Great job, Kenny !!
when the cd first came out and i listened to it i literally cried over this song. and i remember seeing this live. thanks so much for posting it. great song..
Please change going forward for your souls' sake; My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because our anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. Therefore, get rid of moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. James 1:19-21 Yes change by believing in Jesus Christ and living for him going forward.
this songs is so true, i miss my brother so much, wasted so much time with petty pride and now it will never the same. id done a lot of things different. but its not over yet, there are still loved ones out there that need us, and maybe we can learn from our mistakes and do some things different. kiss your mom, hug your dad if they are still there, take your granpas to church if they are alive. hug your brother and sis and tell that u love them.
My brother and sister in law died in a motorcycle accident a month ago. I miss him so much. I miss him for me, for my husband, but mostly for his two small children. They were only 27, and I wish I would have gotten to know her better. Just be nice to the family you have and don't treat them like a burden, because they won't always be there.
@lordtalon my life is real similar after my divorce I can't trust anyone so I spend my time on iPod touch and working at my sucky job then go home and try to drink my pain away I want to do things differently
My life is a series of addiction, meds, alcohol, and before that playing it safe, always obeying rules. I have lived so little life in my 31 years. And now that I am 31 I feel lost. I don't know how to engage myself in the real world so I spend a lot of time at home playing on the internet and working at a crap job.
I need to do things different now but I feel I wasted the fun years of my life. And now what should I do? Sigh. [I know its easy just get out and live ... but its not easy...]
25 yrs of marriage and I wish to God I had the chance to do it again, ohhh how different and I would have paid more attention to how much he really did love me and all the things we went through together,I would have never taken him for granted for even a second! I miss him so much even still after 7 yrs!Nothings the same!
Yes this song rings true to me, n for me this live version is the best I've heard. I close my eyes n feel the way this song plays, just plain great Kenny Chesney n thank you for a wonderful song :)
@IncrediblyHuman I'll be 50 this coming Oct and I also was selfish, argumentative with various people... whoever didn't agree with me. My real wake up call was last fall, when my dad was diagnosed with terminal esophageal cancer...he was given six months to live and now he's made it past those six months...Dad and I live out of town but I go every weekend & today I'm going to do something totally unexpected & nice for him...you don't realize how important someone is to you until they're gone.
Hey MeatPuppetiThinkSo Im in the army. Im a Sgt and there is nobody MIA around that time. Currently there is only one Soldier MIA from OEF and that is PFC Bowe R. Bergdahl MIA since June 30 2009. Sgt Brandon T. Islip is listed as whereabouts unknown as of nov 4 2009 from OEF.
I wish I had done the same thing when my brother went to Viet Nam. But, I didn't and he came home in a box. I always regretted that! I still do. I hope things turn out different for you.
Kenny, probably your best song to date man! I told Jackie that you would be bigger than Tim McGraw as soon as we bought the CD with When I Close My Eyes. I knew I was right, and I was! Jimmy Browder
this is one of the best songs ever made because everybody would have done some thing different if u say you wouldnt have your a lier because that would imply that you are perfect
To everyone who's said thank you for posting, you're more than welcome. Though all credit goes to Kenny.
I've got one more reason now days to have this song up. Looking back at it, I shouldnt have done it, and I realize that now. But I can't take it back. And because of that I lost you... I don't think I've ever wanted something back so bad in my life. It's the biggest pain that I've ever felt.
@DamionFoster I completely understand what you are saying We lost my husbands brother and sister in law a month ago in a motorcycle accident. I miss him so much. I miss him for my husband, for myself, but most of all for his two small children, that are going to have to grow up without there dad. They were only 27. I wish I would have gotten to her better, but know it's to late. Please keep your family close, because they are a blessing not a burden. In a blink of an eye it can all be gone.
@DamionFoster ...im go n through the excact same thing...i lost a girl tht im n love with and i cant have her back and i want her back bad and thts kill n me... thts the worst kinda pain i have ever felt....
The first time I heard this song I cried, because I wish I would have done a lot of things different. Before my Mother passed away. She had begged me to change, but I didn't listen. No one else could sing it like Kenny...

The first time I heard this song I cried, because I wish I would have done a lot of things different. Before my Mother passed away. She had begged me to change, but I didn't listen. No one else could sing it like Kenny...
