Homer Simpson is a fictional character and fans of the simpsons think his webpage is funny, its cool and they like it. A comparison of anyones first web page and this desktop is completely meaningless and unintelligent. Its not so much the effects, its having lots of workspace and being able to keep windows above others or always on top and a tabbed file manager etc.

Second: Windows Aero do contain some of depicted effects, but just a very few. @chihirocz if you think of when someone scrolls their finger on the iphone its very much like changing to another workspace, in this video it shows a rotating cube but it could be same animation as iphone. I dont think that feature is useless gibberish. Its more useful on a small display. Check out gotbletu youtube channel

You can always select a different level of visual effects through the appearance menu if your computer is older than this video. Anyway this seems like more generic windows user envy. HybridNinja: linux is very configurable. There are many effects available. The ONLY thing I REALLY hate compiz (and its variants, they run perfectly smooth) is how UNSTABLE it is. It crashes my flash player, games don't react to the mouse, etc.

Seriously, I use it from time to time to take screenshots (the reason i have compiz-switch), but it's just not worth it... I hope they fix it soon.

mate compiz is not useless at all. Without Compiz, I wouldn't have transitioned from Windows Vista to Linux. Compiz has made my work so much easier by saving time managing my windows. I have to keep switching from window to window and seeing a result in one window whilst tweaking settings in another. Compiz allows me to use both windows in the same maximum screen size at the same time. I press Alt and use the scroller and it makes my first order window transparent. I can see both windows.
