Of course there are spent fuel rods cooling, 1/3 of the reactor fuel was replaced and that is why it was offline. But it's OK, it's only a red state, like most downstream to the gulf.

for all of your information: The Fort Calhoun OPPD Nuclear Power Plant has been SHUT DOWN since the first of April. This flood came in the midst of a SCHEDULED OUTAGE. There is next to zero risk. Something that is not turned on cannot overheat. All that you are doing is fearmongering and spreading misinformation.
@johnhansher As you should know from Fukushima spent fuel rods don't just shut off. Not that I know that this plant is housing spent fuel rods but it is more than likely.
@johnhansher As I understand it, "shutting down" the reactor involves keeping electrical pumps running keeping rods cool. In Fukushima, the diesel backup failed, and there was structural damage, which we don't have here, but a dam breaking, could cause (as far as I can tell) a very similar scenario.

@7jerryv7 I think part of the misunderstanding here is that a "level 4 emergency" might just mean "everybody needs to come into work to help stop this leak", because indeed leaking is a major problem. No wonder OPPD doesn't want them to broadcast this, it's half a step from inciting panic. ESPECIALLY after the japanese incident.

Spent fuel storage pools serve in the most countries illegally as long term storage. Prior to the 311 Tsunami, Fuk. plant Nr 4 was revised and all fuel rods from the reactor were stored additionally to the at least 100 t spent fuel rods in the storage pools. With that density of fuel rods you might risk some kind of critical mass. these pools have to be connected to the coolings system since ever higher MOX alements enriched with 4-6 % PU 239 are in use.

@johnhansher As I understand it, "shutting down" the reactor involves keeping electrical pumps running keeping rods cool. In Fukushima, the diesel backup failed, and there was structural damage, which we don't have here, but a dam breaking, could cause (as far as I can tell) a very similar scenario.

No wonder OPPD doesn't want them to broadcast this, it's half a step from inciting panic. ESPECIALLY after the japanese incident.

I read that, on the international scale, early in June a level 1 incident occurred. I believe that the heading of this video is in error and that people are making conspiratorial claims. The absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence. However, without evidence calling this a level 4 incident is clearly wrong.
