davey's the complete package. stage presence, originality, powerfully skillful and conveys emotional energy like no one else .anybody can play good but no one will ever play like dave bless ya dave thanks for posting
killer guitar tone...i enjoy dave's guitar rigs over the years...like the mesa into roland 2x12 cabs in the early 80s...what have we here....boogie into marshall with a humbucker in a tele...love it
I was able to see the Kinks just once in NYC ( Philmore) around 70/71 or so, we were in one of the front rows right in front of Dave, it was certainly a magic moment ! Being a huge Kinks fan and a Dave fan this was just way too much fun and he played his butt off ! We didn't even realize the Kinks were on the lineup that night as we went to see our friend who was playing guitar with Buddy Miles !
Every time he squashes out those extremely rough tones I think : now he can`t go on singing ,that was it! But just the other way round, he starts again bursting out the most wonderful tones ever heard - a real smasher !!!
Yeah well, Rolling Stone editor Jan Wenner is behind the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Grand Funk Railroad isn't in there so what does that tell you about R.S. snubbing Dave Davies too. I wouldn't wipe my ass with a Rolling Stone magazine personally.
Rolling Stone actually rated Dave Davies lower than Joni Mitchell and Joan Jett in terms of guitar work. Such a bunch of morons. Dave is a guitar god who created the most unbelievable music for his band...
just right. Rolling Stone top 100 guitar players it's a big joke. the only serious thing in that list it's Hendrix and Duane Allman, first and second. Dave supposed to be easily in the top 15..
the rolling stone & other polls like it are about popularity except for a few--like hendrix, page, allman & others that fit these guys description. i've met dave--cleveland 1988--& i can tell he's not about ass kissing or bullshit like rolling stone wants. he's cool, played a great show that night. he was a bit drunk after the show, but he's cordial. you can just sense he's not rolling stones type. fuck rolling stone--dave isn't like everybody else--ray too. i like it that way. dave can play
ridiculous...that is what the Rolling Stone guitar list is....total krunk. Dave is in the original class of guitar "gods" and frankly has the best tone of all the british guys besides beck. Rolling stone is a pop culture rag....kurt cobain should not be listed in the top 1000 anything except for maybe songwriting and rock stars who committed suicide,
@MadderRoseRulz well Joni mitchells` guitar style is jazz, and its a little bit more complicated than Davies rock/blues style, what I really hate is that Dave has to be up there at age 60 playing songs with receding hairline and all..sad lookin`
@PAUL: He has to be up there? Playing your own great music to cheering audiences is preferable to what most 60yr-olds are doing. Dave's 63. Influence is supposed to be a major part of rating: In August '64, Dave became THE major influence on a generation of young players to crank hot overdriven leads, a style that pervades rock music to this day. He precedes Beck , Clapton, Page & Townsend in this regard. *#88*? He should be at least 1 above Kurt Cobain.
@lazur1 believe me if Dave had a choice of staying home or goin` on the road he`d stay home.Yes he was the 1st guitarist to 'wail' a little bit on the solos, but I still call JimiHendrix the inventor of hard rock 'wailing'.Dave`s playing was not very technically effecient when he would solo. But still great for the time
@PAULOcbi I don't believe Dave wants to stay home. Jeff Beck precedes Jimi as a technically adept Wailer, but Hendrix's ranked #1, & no one's trying to take that away from him, just get Dave & Jeff above Kurt, who's also not a technically efficient guitarist.
@lazur1 oh yea Dave and Jeff definitely b4 Cobain.Sadly since the late 90`s commercialism has become the yardstick of success. The more cds you sell to the biggest demographic is the most important now in music.Like U2 and Oasis with their bland almost 'MusaK- like' of pop/rock with monotone vocals, verses are homonymous with the chorus` and the instrumental breaks or middle-8`s are unremarkable .
@MadderRoseRulz Rolling Stone has turned into a cheap political machine. Music is the least of their concern or intelligence. They've never had The KinKs on the cover. Welcome to trash time.
I am 51 years old and find Dave's music more fun and creative, and in leftfield{bug?}than Ray's stuff.I just missed a Ray concert in Nashville, because of work, but I would change my schedule to see Dave.Go figure!
Every thing was cancelled that terrible snowy night except the Kinks with Brian Adams. How is one suppose to enjoy a concert knowing people were trapped under ice in a plane nearby? Art Lover sure rang a bell that night!
a dave show and a ray show are 2 different worlds that paths lead to one, just like everything else, but since its fresh in my mind wasnt the date incorrect in the book about that certain day in January 1982? I do 99.9% believe I was with the Kinks at the Capital Centre
i'm not sure exactly what date that you are referring to in jan. 82 but i saw the Kinks that month and it was, like 60 degrees. they were heading to DC or Va. the next night and i was thinking of going. the next day the temperature dropped 60 degrees and travel up and down the east coast was paralyzed.. i believe they did play the next night tho.
I have been at 60 plus Dave shows from when he first started touring solo in 97 up until he became ill, andlet me tell you they don't make them like Dave anymore. His shows were amazing experiences, only a full blown KinKs show could compare but everyone else pales in comparisson. What Dave gets out of a Marshall Cabinet and a Mesa Boogie head,& his fender tele elite, would leave any guitarist with a big name or newbie young guitarist from any band you can name drooling! God save Dave Davies!
Thanks for posting this. While Ray Davies is recognized one of the greatest songwriters ever, I don't think that Dave Davies, still now, gets the recognition he deserves - except from a few hardcore Kinks fans - as guitarist, singer, writer. This is a great song & a fantastic performance. You've done a great job, well done!
beautiful, great version of the Kinks classic 66's I'm not like every body else. such a great guitarist. he also sing very well, i'm so happy that he is well recovering after the stroke. rock on , Dave..
Before Dave Davies invented his guitar sound, all the other guitarists like Harrison, Richards and so on sounded like pussies. Thanks Dave for opening up the guitar sound.
Dave's sound on You Really Got Me and All Day And All Of The Night defined the beginning of hard rock. If you don't believe me, listen to the other guitarists and bands of '64 and '65. Can't wait for a Kinks' reunion!
Dave Davies " I'm not like everybody else "is off his album DAVE DAVIES ROCK BOTTOM recorded live at The Bottom Line NY in November 1997. Terrific album. Dave is King !
Other great albums by Dave include BUG and TRANSFORMATION. Rick On !

Yeah, RS is a joke but Grand Funk isn't in the same league as the Kinks. Dave D. will never be in the Hall of Fame as a solo.

Dave Davies is perhaps the most under-rated of all the legendary British Invasion guitarists. What a wonderfully musical player.

this is just fantastic. thanks for putting it up....and to think that this song was only a 'B' side of a 45 and not on an album.
the mind reels and boggles.
and Dave is so under-rated.
