I use a roll of screen form Home Depot or Lowes and cut to fit jars, too! It is funny that with all the fancy sprouter devices, the PROS use Good Ol Fruit jars, too!!
wheatgrass i go with soil on dinner plates, small seeds like alfalfa radish mustard clover etc i do in my freshlife automatic sprouter (the one from sproutman) , I also do jars for most of my large sprouts like beans, and grains unless im making grass. My apartment is full of sprouting life most of the time =-D I get lots of comments because of it!
Hey Guys- This is seth- the guy in the video- I think I mentioned this before but I just wanted to correct myself- The wheat grass, sunnies and other tray sprouts usually takes about 8 days in the right conditions, with the jar sprouts, they are usually done within 5. Happy sprouting and feel free to check out my you-tube page at NewYorkEden.
great! yes, the peroxide is helpful in so many ways during the sprouting process- Sometimes if I grow too much and they sit a little too long they may get a bit of a funk to them. Soak them in water with a capful of Peroxide- they bubble up and after a bit they are better.
Thanks for the information on hydrogen peroxide. Sprout SEEDS make a good survival storage food for times of disaster or if the grid ever goes down for a long time: Y3K or Y4K or government breakdown...whatever.
I sprout organic Red Wheat, I just soak them for 24 hours, leave them in my kitchen windows in mason jars. Then I add them to my organic bread. I heard that makes the bread more nutritious is that true. Seems that the nutrition would be lost in the baking process.
I grow my sprouts in mason jars. Its best to put them in a dark cabinet and lay them on their side. Top with cheesecloth. I rinse them morning, evening, and night. On the fourth morning after I rinse them I put them in the window to get some sun. I never have a problem with mold. I got my initial sprouting instructions from Meghan Telpner. The other part from the package.
the peroxide method is well known among mycologist ..apparently the mycelium can convert this peroxide to CO2 ..this is a great tool to know if you are having problems with molds competing for the substrate on which the mushrooms will fruit. However the spores of the mushroom will die if exposed to hydrogen peroxide. Its not used to sterilize spore print agar or syringes ....only to sterilize substrates in which Pre-Grown mycelium will colonize. I had no idea sprouts can process it? Thanks!
THANK YOU!! Very informative...we've been growing our own sprouts for 20+ years now and we just now learned to use hydrogen peroxide to keep them cleaner. Such variety! We remember really enjoying the meals at the TOL. They've got the best operation going. Excellent work, Kevin and AnnMarie.
Thank you so much for this video - it was so interesting!
We sprout in half gallon mason jars. I've made plastic inserts for canning rings out of plastic canvas for the lids. We gave one to everyone in our rawfood meetup group..
I would like to vary what I sprout though and this video was so informative to watch - thank you Kevin and AnnMarie!
I was looking for cheap ways of getting some raw food and then I find myself seeing your video...I'm still a teenager so imagine how much I need to eat to stay in shape...well about 2900 calories according to my calculations...

hello, do not speak very good English, I do not understand, what is the solution that is placed at 3 percent, indicated that 3-minute video. thanks.
enriquerossi 10 months ago
@enriquerossi Hi, that solution was hydrogen peroxide. You really want to use food grade hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and dilute it down.

Wow. I've never heard of soaking wheat grass seeds in H202 hydrogen peroxide, EM effective microorganisms, ocean minerals ocean grown. Native Seed Search sounds cool.

Oops---I should have said "as the mushroom tissue grows, it converts the peroxide to water and oxygen"
