1st of all,Thanks for uploading this instructional video. This product would be ideal for my hill climbing issues which usually causes me to get off my bicycle and walk it up.Too bad my bicycle is already fully accessorized(Spokelits, rear rack/,front/rear baskets, compass bell, rear signal lights, treadguard tires, self sealing tubes, slime tube protectors,front/rear lights).
Excellent demo. The installation looks straight forward, so I ordered the kit today. Just having a tire already on the rim is a plus for me. A thumb throttle rather than an off/on switch seems like it would be better, but the explanation from Clean Republic is that almost everyone fully engages the throttle when they use it anyway. Simplicity usually wins out in my book and this looks simple to install and operate.
@dimaflour On a level street or a slight incline yes.I just obtained the kit 2 days ago.Up a city street hill no not by itself however it greatly assists one in climbing a hill- very noticeable. They recommend using it for power assists up hills for maximum longevity and battery life but indeed one can just cruise on a level street. The geared planetary brushless hub motor is hard to hear when running almost silent.I don't have a speedometer but I'll guess around 15 or 16 mph.I weigh 238 pounds.
This looks amazing. I'm interested in getting this for my wife's 26 inch Giant Sedona DX. We live in Germany now and both do all of our commuting by bike and public transportation.
@HomeEnergyNow its $800 with lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries = 20 miles per charge. Also, they have a sealed liquid acid (SLA) battery kit for $399 = 10 miles per charge.
So you can get everything you need for $399, unless you wanna go farther than 10 miles per charge.
this would be a great kit, but i dont really have $797 on me to put into a bike. Based on where i live and where i go to school, it would have to pay itself off in 4-6 months, but I doubt the battery pack or the motor would last that long. Maybe in the future when I can afford it (and my only reason for riding it would then be to reduce my carbon footprint).
Pretty smart kit... Though I'm not sure about the quality of the motor controller. I would pay extra for an H bridge, which would allow regenerative braking so recharging would never be required.
I have a Mini 40 Mile Busettii bike and it runs 50-55 miles on one battery charge. I also tried my friends Vortex Mountain bike by Busettii. It ROCKS ! Can get up to 32 mph top speed, and on one charge that bike set the new record of 86 miles. Hope it becomes a big hit. In California many people like Busettii because they cost around $1700 but can go 50--86 miles on one charge depending on model. Maria in Cali
What makes an electric bicycle engine go faster or stronger watts or volts? Would a 400 watt engine go just as fast as this 250 watt one? What are the benefits or tradeoffs?
@dacci545 watts definitely makes it go faster, maybe volts. Generally, the higher the wattage on a smaller voltage motor means more amps, and the lower the watts on a higher voltage motor means less amps. If you have a large wattage but small voltage, you get less ride time. If you have a larger wattage and larger voltage, the ride time gets better. If you have a small wattage and large voltage, your ride time increases, but your speed decreases.
O.k. your right. 10 miles. Sorry. But the web site url listed doesn't give much info either. Whats the top speed of this kit and how does weight effect it? I weigh 135 lbs and i need to carry at least 15 lbs of added stuff on my back 2 miles away, and get back home. A ten mile charge should work but how well with my specs is the question? I use a Next 26 inch bike.
Cute project for a small kid. Not practical for an adult going around town. 10 min of continuous power will not get me to the store and back with a few groceries or to the lake 2 miles away and back with 15 lbs of gear and 10 lbs of fish. You also didn't mention how much all this cost you. I need to make an e-bike for under 400 bucks that does what i need it to do.
That whole area between the middle and rear of the bike has a system of gears, chain and pedals. This lets you power your bike with a sandwich. Just think, yummy lunch AND it gets you to where you are going. An electric bike is a lazy bike. Spend that $400 toward an electric motorcycle that will give you some real speed and distance.
@lizardthefish Are you really getting a bargan with an electric motorcycle? This device you don't have to register nor insure it is for all intensive pourpose a power assisted bike that under federal law is permitted. As long as you can still pedal the device and it is less than 5 hp. LaSwift is a bus service connecting Baton Rouge- NOLa $5 a ride get this you can toss your bilke in the huge storage under the coach no charge Can you electric motorcycle do that? Just a thought for those thinking.
One thing though. This can get up to what? 5mph for about 10 miles? Then recharge for 8 hours? That's $400! I bought a gas engine kit on ebay for $130. It has a top speed of 40-45mph and lasts forever. After going 10 miles I'm only down to half of a tank and then I just refuel. Just saying. Would highly recomend gas.
That looks like a piece of shit.. there is a reason why bikes cost money. You can't even buy a decent battery at that cost. Come on, if you want something to work you have to pay for it.
My concern would be the front wheel drive on a bicycle , you would need to ride it a bit different , but otherwise it looks like a great idea , very easy to assemble , was this a lead acid battery or a nimh , or some type of ion .
can the ebike still work if you peddle instead of the trigger. i bought a $699 e bike and my brother took out all the wires now wont go back i wish i baught this easy bike before spending big bucks. im gonna buy one soon.
@CleanRepublic Hi does pedaling have an effect on the hub motor on the front ? e.g. motor is moving at a certain speed, but i'm pedaling at a faster rate than the motor. Will it affect the motor in anyway or give a boost in speed ?
@CleanRepublic do you have a circuit or vid for the permenant magnet generator, or how you set up the brushes etc to collect the electricity. I would like to build one. Thank you
