Gotta say, other than the lack of a hinge the cover I purchased is fantastic; quality materials used and superbly finished. The magnet easily locks into place when using as a stand, without having to guide to, or 'find' the lock spot-simply roll the cover slightly back and the power of the magnet draws it to where it needs to be. Bought as a present and they love it and use it all the time.
My miniot cover is great. Doesnt have this problem at all and it looks great. I think people are comparing it to the apple smart cover and they're just not the same. In fact, miniot should highlight the difference. There's nothing wrong with difference. I find you have remove the cover generally when using the iPad but as I use it at home, that's fine. It all depends on the type of user you are and your expectation. I use my smart cover when I travel for example because it hooks tightly and won
I just received my Miniot cover. First the good: I customized my cover and it is absolutely georgous! It looks so much better than the smart cover, there is no comparison. And it is thin and sleek as well. Now the bad: It took 21/2 months to get it. The reviewer is correct, the function is not as good. However, if you stretch it a bit, the stand works well. Folding back and holding is poor. If you want to use as a great looking stand and cover, great. I love it and it was worth wait.
I've just received my Miniot about a week ago, and been using it every day since.
I agree with you to the fullest in that the Smart Cover is more practical, but I still make Miniot my choice when I leave the house on most occasions. I do not have the trouble of aligning the magnets in "stand mode" for the Miniot at all. I can even flip it with just one hand, it it rolls perfectly and aligns. Granted, they might have fixed this since you received your cover, but it works perfect in my experience.
I saw your video after purchasing the product. I decided to await for the cover and evaluate first hand. I am glad I choose this path. It does not have the hinge but everything else with the cover works well. One will have to decide if the hinge is critical for them or maybe a full cover is better. I do not have the issue with the magnets, I like the product. I also have the apple cover. I will put it to use over the next 2 weeks and post again regarding its function. thx
Ordered mine April 1 and after numerous delays, poor (initial) communication and a bit of frustration ... it arrived today. You can obviously imagine my disappointment when I found there was no magnetic spine. Wish I'd come across this video during the two-month wait; I'd definitely have cancelled. Beautiful aesthetically and well made ... but utterly worthless in the real world. Agree with everything you said. £55 poorer and it's back to the smart cover for me.
OH NO! I ordered mine a month ago... and I just realised my order will be delayed till late June. (ugh) And after watching your review, I feel like cancelling the order. Do you think Miniot will refund me full?
I was watching the demonstration of this product closely, and I believe that the cover itself is just being used incorrectly. Once you roll the cover up, it's supposed to come off of the iPad and the little ledge you make goes back onto the iPad, well that's what I've figured out
I just can't understand how their company can't test the product before producing it, because clearly if they did, then the covers would not be faulty. Either that or they're just plain stupid.
I know that others have confirmed that the Miniot cover does not snap to the bottom if the iPad if you attempt to do so with the wood panelling facing the iPad, but can you confirm that the cover does not stick to the back of the iPad even if you attempt to do so with the ultrasuede lining facing the iPad? That's one thing the Miniot website explicitly states that the cover can do (right above the 'Made in Holland' comment), but which I have yet to see done.
Thanks for the review - it was very helpful. I knew there was something "fishy" about this product, it seemed too perfect. I noticed that in the presentation video when the guy used the cover as a stand, the transision to stand mode feeled awkward - like they were hiding this design flaw. I also feel that Miniot did really cruel trick with this cover. They took all the orders and did start to ship these covers just recently. They didn't ship any early products for reviews because of they knew this.
@heikki75 to me it only started getting fishy once they disabled commenting on their original miniot cover video. I knew that the cover wouldn't work as well as the magic cover but this was way way below my expectations..
Hey, there i got my Miniot iPad2 Cover today too... i can completly agree to everything you're saying in this video... i'm currently uploading a review video too.... i think my fit is really bad against yours... also the rollup didn't work ... after pressing really hard and stretch the microfiber it holds togehter...
@stephan1712 that sucks man... im really sorry to hear that yours is in that condition. Im really considering a refund for my cover. But I think that they are only doing product exchanges. Oh well.. I will have to call them up. Are you returning yours?
I think what I'm most disappointed in is that in the Miniot video they advertise that the cover is flush with the iPad ALL the way around, but you can see here the case is slighty bigger than the ipad causing an overhang.
I wanted this so badly but wanted to read some reviews on it and all of them people are disappointed. Such a shame, such a beautiful cover, just wished it "worked" better.
@brikman45 no it doesn't... moreover, if you hold the cover at the back, your iPad will "wake" and "sleep" constantly because of the magnets... it gets all confused... that's a pity... The cover is really gorgeous, but you do have to be willing to deal with two "separate" items (iPad+cover). If that isn't a problem: go for it. I like mine :)
Thanks for the review! I was especially curious how the well it would work as a stand, and as I assumed from looking at the design, it doesn't work as good as the SmartCover. Let's hope the guys at Miniot create an improved version at some point, because the wood itself looks great, but it lacks in functionality

THE problem of faulding it back is already solved and if you have problems with that you can send it back and get a fixed one.

This case is a waste of money. The smart cover is so much more well thought and way more attention to detail, typical of Apple design and engineering
