You're joking right? If that snake is 14ft handling it alone would be very difficult. A show came on last night showing that snakes like this are breeding in Florida as we speak. The guys on the show came across a 20ft Burmese Python! In the wild in Florida. The heart ache is yet to come as these things are encroaching on residential areas. I personally Owned an 8ft Burmese for 2 decades so I have snake experience. By the way the record for an Anaconda is 36ft. This one is no mega.

Again I owned a Burmese for 22 years. I owned a Red Tail Boa Constrictor while in high school in FLORIDA of all places. It kills me how people either exagerate what snakes can do or under estimate them. I may not be a herpetologist but I have 4decades of snake experience. What do you bring to the table

If you own and breed snakes, you would know that 40 degree weather is not going to kill them. You would also know that introduced into a new environment they would lack natural predators. The Floridian environment is close enough to the native habitat of these snakes that they can thrive. I am a snake enthusiast but I'm not blind or hipocritical about it. Irresponsibility is responsible for the current problem. Down playing it will serve no one.

40 degrees WILL KILL BURMESE PYTHONS. They get respiratory failure if they're kept at 60 degrees for even a few days. They are from a tropical environment that DOES NOT GET DOWN TO 40 degrees.

The snakes native to FL are not affected because they can take temps down to 50 degrees. When it's colder than 50, they go into holes in the ground, where it's a balmy 50 degrees year round.

Your 4 decades of snake experience must be watching them on TV because you sure haven't bred any pythons.

One more thing - the average temps from the Burmese python native habitat ranges from 68 to 90 degrees F. Google it.

And no, Florida's environment is not "close the Burmese python's native habitat". Not by a long shot.

The "lack of natural predators" line, tells me that you don't know squat and are probably a child pretending to be an adult.

As soon as a baby snake hatches (be it a Burmese python or a Florida kingsnake) predators are lined up to eat them. Those include birds, alligators, fish, etc., etc. Doesn't have to be a "natural" predator. The predatory species do not discern between a native animal and an introduced one. They just eat what they can.
