Neitr Hendrix nor the Beatles. He was the VU of comedy. Richard Pryor had to be the Jimi Hendrix (for his ethnicity, his experimentation, and his drug use). The Beatles of comedy has to be Bill Cosby for his huge popularity and overall homogenized like ability.
The Beatles rewrote all music, delving through basically every genre of music possible at that time, experiementing with sound more than what people thought was possible, frequently making songs for meaning and artistic expression instead of popularity and enjoymentand it is because of these things that bands are around today. They took all the risks. This is similar to Lenny Bruce who - as George Carlin said - took all the risks.
@mondofzz the punchline wasn't posted. it ends too soon. so that's why it's "not funny".. the punchline is. " if anyone in this audience or anywhere listening to this is offended,. thinks i'm amoral, ..you probably can't come!"
This has to be the saddest of routines...Lenny doing one of his old routines that brought him to fame, yet there was no one to man the drums for him and give him the rimshots... he was done and in a few days from this performance he was dead...
They never understood that he was a pioneer and now all these kids think it is hip to say obscenities without any reason. Lenny was trying to make a point, not just use blue words but he was an intellectual person. Most people don't get that. He was wild.
God Bless Lenny Bruce and his "FILTHY MOUTH"! Hahahaa, can you believe he was arrested for this? Now in order to get arrested you need to speak out against the WAR IN IRAQ. But who would dare to do THAT?
@coolpiza I live in NM and freinds were tear gassed years ago for gathering to peaceably assemble in protest of the illegal immoral occupation of Iraq. Arrests were made that evening and others have been arrested and slandered, ridiculed, labeled for speaking out against the war in Iraq.
where's the punchline?

I guess what this lacks in humor it makes up for in historical significance.

Why does his manner of speech remind me of Rod Serling?
