  • I notice that in your practice, it looks like you are brushing up against the ball and snapping your wrist at the same time. 2nd question sometimes when I do the kick serve, I'm not trying 2 hit hard but my shoulders have a pitching senation, and it seems like i'm fully extending as well. What could it be that i'm doing wrong for me to feel a slight discomfort. Also when I do the drill in the serve progression 1. My wrist hurts when i hold the raquet near the raquet throat. I'm i doing it wrong?

  • Hey Will,I been following you for a month or so and I have enjoyed every video that you have created. From the forehand to the kick serve and the analysis of the wimbledon final which happened EXACTLY how you said it would for Novak to win. Well back to the topic on this video. My question to you is I was told that snaping your wrist adds power to your serve, so I was wondering when you hit a kick serve, does the snap of the wrist do anything for the serve? Or is it just a follow through motion?

  • kick serve is the same that twist serve???

  • Comment removed

  • i think the kickserve hitting position can be the same as the straitthrew serve. look at the last two pics and the pros... but great videos form him!

  • thanks FYB, your video and your explanations meant a lot to me....

    keep up the good job...

  • i have watched all your videos about the kick serve and when i try to hit the ball it seems to have topspin, but also side spin. is this normal when trying to hit from 8 to 2? and i cant quite get enough speed on the ball.

  • best teacher in the world!!!!!!!

  • do yu have a full view of steps 1-6? its easier to follow.tnx

  • ok i just tried this outside

but my kick serve goes short help me somoene

    i did everything rite

  • @iAnimeFANS you really think you can get it straight away. You just have to keep trying and use some of your own initiative. Patience mate!!

  • how often should you hit the kick serve?

  • the kick serve is good for your second serve but you can use it for your first serve to switch things up a bit

  • Will... I have one problem here. When I do my kick serve, the tennis ball naturally bounces short. My coach said I should use my whole shoulder instead of my arms when brushing up the ball. I follow his advice but it does not seem working

  • practice makes perfect

  • well only i can do is a slice serve and a normal serve i am more a net player ^^

  • If you are a net player it would be good for you to learn the kick serve because it gives you more time to run to the net than a slice or flack serve ;)

  • well thats true well i have a slice effect of a lefty so most people getting suprice well i am very fast so dont need the kick serve yet ^^

  • I´m also a lefthander and yea, everyone have problem with the left-slice serve. So I agree that it's better to hit sliceserve.

But your opponent will be very surprised if you hit a kick serve just once or twice in a match, cuse the ball bounce the opposit way.

    Just a lefty tip ;)

  • is there a video of how the kick serve is shown when it lands on the opponent's side

  • What grip is he using?

  • great tip thanks FYB2007

  • Thanks for posting the serves are the only thing i'm not good at

  • are u better then the prince of tennis?

  • haha that's a good question... i'll have to challenge him sometime.

  • yes.

  • @FYB2007 do u know what the prince of tennis is?

  • this might seem like a dumb question but whos the prince of tennis

  • lol its just an anime search on youtube prince of tennis and u will find out lol

  • lol, i dont know if he's better than Ryoma lol..funny you should mention that. The reason I'm looking up the kick serve is because i accidentally did one today and i wanted to know how i did it...and because i saw it on Prince of Tennis lol

  • lol

  • ...Well he is better them Ryoma because Ryoma is still a cartoon :p

  • yeah it doesn't really 'hit' the ball firmly

  • well that's not a very good kick serve

  • how can u think that now lol?

still 3 more slams to go you cant know whats gonna happen this year

  • 3??? there's wimbledon but the US open ??or which r the 2 remaining(except wimbledon )?????

  • i ment 3 slams till next garros.

wimbeldon us open and australian open . thats 3 more till french :)

  • ehehehh now i understood i thought that there were 3 more slams until the next year icluding wimbledon ^______^

  • Thanks, FYB2007!

  • hi,FYB2007

when i throw high and brush the ball up and across the ball doesn,t get speed

  • that slow mo looked sic

  • Is kick serve effective on clay?

  • Hi, I'm not much of a power player in tennis so what I do is put more spin on the ball, I was wondering if there is a special thing I can do to my kick serve to put more spin on it so it has a harder bounce, thanks :)

  • hi FYB i have a question, my kick serves have no power and when i try to hit them a bit flatter they go out, is their anyway to get them to be powerful and say in the service box.

  • Hi mart. The key to a speedier kick serve is swinging through the ball while still maintaining the correct swing direction. One thing you can try is tossing the ball further into the court so that you have to "chase" it a little bit. You'll have to move into the court to get under the ball and that will get your body's momentum into the shot. A more advanced tactic is to slightly alter your swing path so you hit through the ball more. Sampras was great at this.

  • thanks dude :P i only knowed hot to serve flat serve and its going 170 km/h if it goes in to the cort .. but with kick serve i will puwn nabs :)

  • 'Tis a good explanation but at times a bit repetitive, to me. It would help me to understand more about other aspects of it...obviously the back arches more that is big difference between flat. And where do you strike the ball in kick serve? In brush motion i get that. But is it precisely a Up and Right motion at contact...NE position on compass rose? Your video helps a lot but not sure about point of contact.

  • i can do multiple kick serves all depending on contact point, jump, toss height, racquete speed etc. i brushing the ball more gives you more spin and you can control the brush to push ratio by making it project flatter with more power and still spin or more spin less power. its really something you wanna mess with for like a week straight and get the feel of how all the motions tie in together

  • that's addressed in an earlier step. i think it was the second

  • @baritono81 waka

  • wow wat great form on dat guys serve. its beautiful lol

  • Is this kick serve a twist or a topspin?

  • A kick serve is a twist

  • another name for the kick serce is the twist serve. it's an easier way to remember if it's a twist or a topspin.

  • some people call kick serves twist but this one is a topspin. if it was twist he would emphasize on the diffrence between a topspin and twist most likely

  • some people will also call it a twist serve because they watched prince of tennis

  • I actually read those books which is where I first learned of the "twist serve" and I didn't know it was a real serve, now I'm playin' against people using the serve and I can't belive that it is as effective as it is, not like the book but still a very nice serve.

  • twist and kick are different, very close, but different. kick just bounces high, whereas twist will like in PoT, curve.

  • Thanks :D

  • Dude this is a great explanation. Thanks so much

  • NICE..I HOPE THIS HELPS ME!!thx
