I think it is called "Fair Use" if you use the content for educational use or once it is placed in "Public Domain" I do agree that copyright laws are very complex. I choose not to use any content I did not create. I learned about this stuff in Business Law at a community college. "Great video" it explains proper conduct online =)

@ThEricucho There is a YouTube video maker that does something similar to this. So it probably ok but if you were to make tons of money off it somehow, it might be considered a copyright violation by the owner. I'm not a lawyer so take that for what's it worth.

Castaa, quick question. I am thinking about buying a better cam, and yours seems pretty fair - How much was the cost?

I recommend the Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000. It's about $70 but I've seen it on sale for $50 from time to time.

However for a better quality I would recommend getting a used or new Flip video flash memory based camcorder which are around $100 to $200.

But really, even if someone says and explains their video is like your work, and if you decide to be nice and comment, they keep messaging you till you subscribe... or block. Nobody on block list, but really, if you use part of another youtuber's video in yours and they didn't say they cared, could they still take it down?

I sent this guy a message who has commented on my video. I checked out his channel and liked his videos.

I told him that I thought he deserved more views (both of our channels are for guitar) and I told him that I was thinking about sending my subscribers this way.

I said message me back and talk about it. I said that I might send my subsribers to him and then maybe he could tell some subs about me, if he wants.

In theory you'd need a written agreement to use the music. However if you have their explicit approval for them to use their music or they release their music for other public uses via a creative commons license, it's not likely they're going to then turn around and file a copyright/DMCA claim on your video.

I usually only talk for a few minutes then I use a transition screen to hide the breaks. And I usually have to do multiple takes for each part since it's partly extemporaneous and partly scripted. I wish I had a teleprompter! lol.

I think it would be hilarious if you impersonated famous YouTubers.

What you can do to substitute for a teleprompter is type is out on a word processor and increase the font. I sometimes use this technique. Since your webcam is on your computer, as you read off the digital-teleprompter, it looks like you are speaking into the camera.

I've tried that. My webcam is too close to my face and one can easily tell I'm reading off a script. That's why the cameras are so far way from the news anchor with the news broadcasts. The angle from the lens and the teleprompter is significantly reduced thus creating the appearance they are looking at the lens.

Great as usual, Jon! Regarding copyright, when I use music, it's only brief excerpts, and I give full credit in sidebar -- would that have any bearing on fair use, etc? Maybe not, 'cause they seem to remove stuff across the board. Ideas for shows: "How To," semi-technical stuff for making vids, a la your technique of voiceover with cam, moviemaker, audio track; things like that. Also: "What do you look for in a video?"

I'm no lawyer and fair use in the US is pretty complicated. With music I think the amount is very short you can use. But again I'm no lawyer. Wikipedia might have something to add to the question.

I agree with the points here, but I also think the community will even itself out over time as far as the fake video responses and chain letters, etc. The person who's video is featured shouldn't accept off-topic video responses and I think video owners should clean-up as much spam/chainletters as they can from their own videos.
