SOAD and Black Sabbath are completely different bands from completely different times who played in completely different styles. Don't compare them. The same applys to Tool. Also, people can say whatever they want about Serj being the defining member of the band, but in the end Daron is the genius that makes SOAD so awesome (especially in later albums). Scars on Broadway is much better than Serj's solo career.
