For all of you who don´t understand what you just saw, there is a character in this opera which is the Duke of Mantova, and he is in colloquially speaking "a pimp", so he compares woman to wine, whenever you don't like it, you just open up another bottle. haha.
exactly why opera is not enjoyed properly 99.99 of people think is about screaming your lungs out with nice words that no one knows, sad how much it is being missed out. thanks!
Me no parle the ol' Francais. But let me stick a babelfish in my ear. Ok, i get "Simply a skilled of red do not like the remainder". Not sure what that means. "Just a good glass of red wine, I'll pass on the rest"? I fear that even if I *did* have a correct translation... I still don't know what you mean.
Wow. I wonder what kind of, er, substance, the animator consumed before having the dream that became this video? ;-) Inventive, creative, imaginative, original, provocative, daring. Grade: A Stars: 5
exactly...because human imagination and creativity isnt good enough to stand on its own without taking a little something for "inspiration "...i guess on that note, you are also saying that Verdi's work isnt powertful enough to inspire another person to do something creative...but Verdi must have had some good shit when he composed his music ;)
Wrathful sarcasm noted (and I admit there may be some validity to it), but it's a partial misquote, because my "substance" comment related to a guessed dream, not directly to the creative process behind the animation in this video. As to what Verdi imbibed, who knows? But possibly lots. Drugs and booze were far less regulated in those days, and creative people imbibed lots. As to whether that hurt or helped... probably both.
sorry about including so much wrath! I am something of an artist, so I am aware of the perceptions people (and artists) have about the connections between drugs and art...but i hate when people think that certain levels of creativity are merely the result of drug trips.
Verdi, as far we know, was relatively substance-free. He did take medications for his near-constant stomach aliments but probably was not 'dependent' as we use the word today. His work is too steady to indicate a drug habit.
It's funny that in our times, these lyrics would be deemed as insesitive in U.S. society. No wonder we are so messed up! Thanks for the posting, one of my favs!
This is one of my favorite operas, but the song actually was intended to sound chauvinistic. The duke of mantua seduces and lies to many women, and then Ironically sings that women are fickle and untrustworthy. I think even at a time when women were considered brainless servants to men this song showed some of the irony in that treatment.
One important scene at 2:28 was edited from the original version on VHS!. In this scene the face of this women had the shape of a naked body. This scene was very creative and was one of the best parts of this video. they shouldn't change it!
