The reason, in my humble opinion, Lebowski is so funny is because it is a phenomenal mix of off-beat characters and story line as well as low brow and very intelligent humor. For Example, Goodman's comment on nihilism vs. Socialism in the bowling alley is both smart and fucking hilarious. That's hard to pull off these days, especially when most movies just go for the cheap laugh.
