This sounds like a really good idea i would love to see those movie's. The original movie had a Lot more impact than the series probably because it had better budgets and writers etc.
The series were good SG1 was great but the writing on SGA and SGU were pretty rubbish they had sit com writers that were doing two and a half men and Big bang Theory as well as writing for SGU no wonder they couldn't keep up you have to do research and stay current to write for SCIENCE Fiction !!
How is this hot air? Devlin never made any statements that he's in any talks or has made any deals with MGM this time around. He just says that with the series winding down, he's hoping that he'll get the chance at making the further films.
@aeiouaeiou100 - Mate, you got a funny definition of facts!
Stargate franchise: CANCELLED (don't get me wrong, I'm not happy about this, I loved Stargate, particularly SG:U)
Doctor Who: Still going strong, into it's 6th season of the new series (32nd overall, including the 'classic' series) - with a huge 50th anniversary special planned for 2013 - and the spin-off Torchwood is now a major international show, co-produced by the BBC & Starz (The SJA were only cancelled due to Liz Sladen's death)
@usaeagle1776 but it'll explain a lot, the franchise has already done like everything they can, if they only finished Universe.... The explaination of for example the history of stargates and the universe will be very cool
@aeiouaeiou100 well, I disagree. Atlantis was cancelled way too early, and so was Universe. As to the history of the stargates, well that has been covered as well. The Ancients placed them. You get more in depth into the story with a series, then a movie every 3 or 4 years. Just my opinion.
@usaeagle1776 That's true, but a different storyline that explains it wouldn't be a bad thing, altough I agree a movie is not really the way to go... I think atlantis was going a bit to far with the clones and it's pretty good if it ends with a movie, but universe has a lot more potential... Shame they canclled it..
@aeiouaeiou100 I agree. I hated that the cancelled SGU, i thought it was really getting a firm footing. I really dislike SYFY...they cancel shows that are just to good to cancel.
I hope this doesn't happen. I doubt it will anyway, but the original film isn't THAT good; I'd much rather have a continuation or SG-1, Atlantis and SGU.
@DuracellEnergizer That's fair enough, I guess. I'm just saying that personally, I prefer the television show continuity. And "you SG-1 fans" was unnecessarily accusatory. And besides, a more accurate description of me would be "you SGU fan", since I prefer SGU to all other aspects of the franchise.
@MrEvil37 Yeah, I guess the "SG-1 fans" thing was too accusatory. I'm just not a fan of the either/or mentality, though, and I get flustered when people resort to it.
@DuracellEnergizer Never got into the tv series. I only found out about the film a few days ago. Watched it and I fell in love with it! I really hope Devlin gets to work on Stargate again and finish the supposed trilogy. The original 1994 film was brilliant and explored the mythology of ET influence on humanity quite accurately, to detail. That's probably one of the main reasons why I prefer the film over the tv series. I think the original Stargate film deserves a proper follow-up.
@42cosmonauts Not to disregard SG1, I'm sure it is a brilliant follow-up. I meant a proper follow-up in regards to its orignal creators Devlin and Emmerich being involved. The creators should get some credit for creating such a great world - just give them a chance.
@mistermassive1 It'll never happen, he's been trying to hype the idea at various events on and off for years now, but the truth seems to be that either MGM don't want to make a theatrical, or (more likely) they just don't trust Devlin with one.
they should make an epic movie on black holes

@Risenangelicaegis Talking bullshit, none of the writers on SGU worked on sitcoms at the time of writing it.

It makes no sense since all the ga'ould are all gone... they killed them off in the series as it went on...

I would like to have those movie scripts combined with the series, and not make a kind of different stargate timeline.
So, series actors who play the movie's script in a way that it is possible to take place after the events of the series.
And maybe rewrite the script so that the why and where questions get answered in a conclusion movie for Universe!

i doubt the movies would match the Greatness of the series franchise.

@MrEvil37 Why should you SG-1 fans hog the franchise? There's room enough for two "Stargate" continuities.
