mounting the sample, grinding, fine grinding, polishing, fine polishing, hardness tests, microscope work, measurements, analysis... etc.

my mistake, I thought the point was to show how boring it is as well as how hard it is to explain the process to those who might not get it. quote: "Now you can kinda see why a guy might want to kill himself".  quote: "...stab them with a salad fork..." So I drove the point home by adding to it. my bad
