Actually, not to be overly nitpicky here, but the size of Custer's force that Cruise should have said, was a company, not a battalion. A battalion is generally around 700 men and that would have included the forces of Benteen and Reno as well that were also present at the Little Bighorn. In the context that Cruise is using, the mention of the 211 men that died directly with Custer, that would have been a company size force.
@ColonelGeorgeACuster ...My bad, I need to clarify that. What I really meant to say that one could argue and say that 211 men could technically be considered a "light battalion" per 1876 classification, as you stated.
I don't know how he does it, but Watanabe always manages to make the scene. Cruise is at some of his all time best, don't get me wrong, but...the under tones and inflection and Japanese Humanity Watanabe radiates is unreal. It's less like he's an actor playing a role, and more like he's a role, playing an actor.
I love Ken Watanabe's accent. Especially in Batman Begins. Sometimes I think he sounds like a tiger purring. Not so much in this scene, but in Batman Begins, yes.

Cruise is good. He's got loads of experience, but all be damned if Ken doesn't out act him in every single scene.

This is a great film, despite having Tom Cruise in it. Ken Watanabe totally should have had a starring credit alongside him.

Anybody else think Chris Nolan tried to rip off the Last Samurai in the opening story of Batman Begins?
- The Samurai plays the sham Rhas Al Guhl
- And Christian Bale has the scruff hair/beard
- In a wooden mini-village in the snowed up mtns
