Usually two garbage cans covers the ice with a perfect thin layer of water but that morning (after a snow) I had this sandpaper ice that just soaked up the water.
I hosed down the middle and refilled the cans again for another flood.
I LOVE this method it saves so much time. It all came about after I was flooding by hose one night in the dark and it was so cold that dragging the hose created slush ridges that froze over (first rink mistake) (I have some lights now).
