  • I am very intrigued by tesla coils, I have watch all videos on youtube about them and everyone seem so excited about tesla coils yet no 1 shows practical use for them? some say they produce energy others say they take energy from the air. can anyone tell me why I would want to build 1? if there is no practical application why would I want to build 1? if I guess I wore my home from 1 that would be awesome! but I don't see anyone using them other than having fun with sparks? thank you.

  • The king of geeks!

  • Love it! Just one question:

Why do you have your MOT stack in series on the mains end too?

  • It's so loud an powerful, i love it :D

  • OH MY GOD MY KID COULD MAKE A MORE REALISTIC LOOKING VIDEO I AM PLEASED I SKIPPED TO THE END AND DIDNT WATCH THE WHOLE THING.

  • love your work

what advantage to u get from running the static and RSG in series like that ?

  • That is just amazing. I damire your dedication to excellent workmanship and proper design.

  • i must of watched this 20 times; and every time i do it still makes the hairs stand up on my neck'. roger you are a god of teslas coils ;-)

  • Very nice coil.

  • that was amazing roger and thanx for sharing ya knoweledge with us. iv just built my first tesla coil at a small size of 14" and works well. and to see yours at that size working so well is amazing!.cant wait to build my next at a size like yours. thanx again for posting a fantastic video on here for all. ps the thunder was perfect for the video made me laugh ;-)

  • That's a magnificent Tesla coil Roger. Scary but magnificent. Still, I did laugh every time the thunder rumbled :).

  • This is obviously a well thought out design, Roger. Great description and display of your work in action. The thunder in the background was a timely and, as you mentioned, appropriate addition!!

Are you remotely adjusting the rotation speed on the rotary gap in this video? I am assuming you are able to fine tune that to optimise resonance of the TC primary tuned circuit.

  • I'd like to thank you for taking the time to make this video. Peace and love brother :)

  • hey you are very smart I wish i was even half as smart as you lol!

  • With all my respect, I would like to salute your commitment and would like to encourage your work. You are an example for humanity!!

  • With all my respect, I would like to salute your commitment and would like to encourage your work. You are an example for humanity!!

  • Very very nice..*

  • where you got the charging choke? self maded?

  • Roger....no words! You're THE MAN!!!!!

  • hi, i dont know if you still check your comments, but i recently built a tesla coil myself, and even though it lights up a bulb, i cant see any visible electrical arcs, even when done at night, do you know why this happens?

  • i was wondering if a tesla coil woul actually hav sparks that go that far cus to me it seems a little un realistic but i could be proovin rong so i want to know if they do?

  • Nice job, Nik would be proud of you :)

  • @carr60ick nik? as in nikola tesla?

  • That's a really nice tesla coil, and a lot of good information, thank you, nice video.

  • you are genious don't listen to him

  • shut up bonzos.

  • shut up you dont know enithing bonzos hes beter then you !!!!!

  • fucking genious cheers!

  • Incredible demonstration! I often wonder if there is a way to utilize harnessed electricity as a means of propulsion!

  • Good show Roger! Love that sound.

  • theres a lazer beam that tesla created THATS THE TRUE CHALLENGE!!

  • makes me think of the large hydron collider, btw thanks for showing ^^, i've got some inspiration now :D

  • diodes are backwards in this schematic - just FYI

  • @FullRetract

    How so?

  • Thanks for shareing!

  • those mots are huge!

  • amazing

  • Awesome.

  • Your schematic shows the secondary coil grounded to electrical ground, aren't you using a grounding rod? From what I've read grounding to mains ground is very dangerous.

  • don't be so stif man. loosen up

  • @thechosenhacker by "loosen up", i think you mean act like an egotistical jerk who enjoys bathing himself in reverence. The cool thing about this guy is he doesn't care about that. He's obviously building it because he''s interested. Not because he wants to be a stand-up comedian on youtube. That business is already being handled by thousands of stupid teenagers. So in conclusion, YOU sir, should loosen up and stop being so critical.

  • Hey nice 1 Igor be adviced high voltage project wish some1 told u that before u switch that beauty on.

  • WOW

  • Amazing. Thanks for this!

  • that schematic was the longest schematic i have seen for a tesla coil

  • can the discharge be used off the toroid?

  • epic

  • That dude looks like got hit by that tesla coil's plasma a couple of times.. eheh

  • STFU he obviousuly was a little nervous... i know i would be if i was next to that big badass

  • that was hardcore at the end

  • P.S .I have a question, Does the RPM of the electrode wheel directly control the primary coils feed? as in if you raised or lowerd the speed would it change the perameters of the exiting arcs from the Toroid?

  • You Sir are a Super nerd, I do hope you are proud of that fact xP, extremely well executed walk through and thats a beautiful device you have built :) watching and hearing it perform is just the icing on the cake, Cheers to you!

  • all of that from just two MOT's! amazing! what size cap do you think I should use for a 4 inch pvc secondary, and two mots for power? thanks

  • dude...this is hardcore. clandestine

  • swear that dude was in the fly

  • Что то мен какой то контуженый,коротнуло что ли его от кактушки то?..А в целом схема не плоха,попробую повторить,только не такую офигенную.

  • Amazing! Thanks Roger.

  • how awsome is that, prety

  • is it possable to use 4 MOT's in seriese?

  • I have known several EE genius' in my life. Most of the guys pause their speech and even speak a little bit odd because they are so far above the average person in brain function, that they have to make a major effort to 'think down' enough to communicate with us, at all. So, you haters, just be glad he takes the time to simplify his thoughts so most of you

average joes can have single silable words

on which to ponder the meanings of.

  • well said

  • Hey....

If one of US got ZAPPED (by accident, of course!) as many times as this guy, we'd talk a little slower too!!!

  • If he is that smart, why did he spell "SAFETY" wrong? i'm Messing with you, the guy is obviously very very smart. Maybe the Government should listen to guys like him once in awhile, we might not have energy concerns.

  • Yep!

  • @CaptLesPaul Don't you mean genii? Also I would just say that it isn't nice to make fun of people for any reason. I am also an undergraduate electrical engineer.

  • @CaptLesPaul textbook autism.

  • amazing.... Have ideas about using that technology from Tesla to create energy as well but no one can be as creative as Tesla was in his life ..... Good job

  • Good work, RogerInOhio.

  • I wish someone could reproduce Tesla's Wardenclyffe Station. Especially with our current energy concerns.

  • was this filmed during a thunderstorm?

  • Awesome.

  • The whole demonstration was perfect, but the best part was the guy who invented this coil was Nikola Tesla, he died in the forties..In his last years alive, they say he used to sit alone in his apartment in New York city, and stare out at lighting storms, and applaude the lightning...The fact that this was taped in a lightning storm, and there was a huge blast of thunder when the coil was started, brings Tesla himself into it...WELL DONE!!

  • Badass, dude. Thank you for sharing this.

  • Thank you Roger for sharing your knoweledge with us. People who make fun and poke at this guy should be slapped. There is a wealth of knoweledge and experince this guy is giving freely, and we should be greatful. Those who take the time to explain things like this are the real heros of the world.

  • I agree fully. This was very interesting, and I appreciate the time he took out of his day to make the video.

  • This guy is great, I would not make of this guy with his knowledge of high voltage. He could probably send me a package i open it up and BAM mini Tesla coil surprise. LOL But yah i find Roger's videos really informative and great quality. Keep it up Roger.

  • i want one :-)

  • this guy looks like he has been shocked a couple of times XD

  • LOL, Good job Rodger!!

    Don't ever stop

  • Holy shit...awesome payoff at the end :D

  • Fuck this guy surely has charisma.

  • lol lightning at 7:40 was perfect

  • THIS GUY IS SO HILARIOUS AND COOL!!!

  • DANGER! Will Robinson! DANGER!

  • You must be some kinda genius to be able to make such a device out of material that looks like scrap.

    Very nice.

  • If this is a fake, then it's pretty well made. There's both reflections of the sparks on the walls and on the sphere below the work table, to the right.

  • It's for real.

  • Ya. I'm building one.

  • your a faggot. just shut your mouth. you obviuously havent seen a tesla coil run before.

  • Hey, Roger! I'm impressed! Why don't you use the MOC 's in series to save some money?

Also, what are the specifications for those (apparently bigger) other capacitors? And more importantly, where did you get them?

    Thanx beforehand!

  • Czy tego kolesia pokopało wcześniej... ??

  • how much did it cost you for parts. The small, medium, and large?

  • Nikola Tesla (Nicolae Teslea) wanted to transmit wireless energy. This technology isn't available for the masses yet.

  • Well, that's because it disrupts radio-comunication and is impossible to gain a profit from (no way of telling who is using the power and how much).

  • Well seeing that Tesla wanted to provide it free, makes it really hard to make a profit.

  • very cool, that was one of the coolest things iv ever seen. i want to build one someday

  • RogerInOhio, what do your neighbors think? i'm sure they get no tv now

  • That would be a good thing. People should build things instead of watching tv.

  • how did you get such BIG MOTs!?

  • Roger i found this video very intresting i'm an apprentise electrician and have allways wanted to build one of theses one day

  • The lightning was so perfect!

  • Roger, does the plastic pvc tubing get burned or melts aftertime or no heat gets to it?

  • lebonpost, there is no such a heat that will burn pvc.

  • so THATS why they make spud cannons out of it. well that certainly helps me alot

  • Hey Roger, you need to get laid budd.. while you are at it you can design some cool vibrators and try em on your girlfriends, you already have the back ground on tesla coils.

  • youre really cool roger!

  • thanks for the info and entertaining video. very impressive.

  • It looks like he got shocked a couple of times.

  • It would be cool if you could direct the actual electricity into a straight, or semi-straight path.

  • That's basically what Tesla was working on before he died. Unfortunately, J.P. Morgan cut Tesla's funding because he was starting to get a little crazier than usual. Tesla later wrote that he is glad he never built it because it would ultimately lead to world destruction.

  • Awesome! I really needed a schematic, as my friend and I are possibly going to build a DC sstc. thanks!

  • Only with help this video series i build my DC resonant Tesla Coil. Thank you!

  • Question: I would think the 2 Microwave Transformers would " Buck " On Frequency ?? and also What is the Spark Choke really needed for ? Is this Just effect ?

  • GREAT! NOISY! FRANKENSTEINY!

  • Lol. That's mean; though he does have a unique "ambiance".

  • i have two question

in what can it be used¿?

does i have to be plugged to the wall like a NORMAL gadget?¿

sorry my tecnical language is pretty lame

    thanks for your time

  • nice job roger.. subscribing..

  • awesome!

  • His setup looks pretty elaborate compared to a basic Tesla circuit. Why the static and rotary gaps in series? What does that do? To me that's pretty nice sparks from 240V.

  • I wondered the same thing but now i think i figured it out. I think it is because the rsg was set to fire at a low voltage and adding a static gap will allow the voltage to get higher before it breaks down.

  • Haha, love the fact that there's actually thunder outside. : D Appropriate indeed.

  • Wow thats an amazing setup. How did you get such a high frequency out of a coil of that size? Great video!

  • Great job, Roger. That's quite an achievement. And, to all those morons who have made nasty comments, all I can say is that you would be lucky to have half this man's intelligence. Get a life...find a hobby...or maybe just shut up.

  • sorry

  • Greetings Earthlings- we mean you no harm.

  • very nice ozone generator.

  • are you able to generate more power than you put into it? please message me back about it.

  • he's on drugs but a genius

  • looks like he has been whacked a few times with it

  • Very nice expo! Not many people take the time to explain the DCRTC to others and even make a simple schematic to help them follow. A really great informative video, keep up the great work. I am just starting my larger coil, I have a small SSTC, and am just beginning a similar one to yours, but only at ~950 watts, but maybe will take on a larger one arond 2,500 watts in the far future (2 to 3 years). Again, great video, great detail in explaination and nomenclature.

  • 굿.

  • there not fake the high voltage from a tesla coil is real

  • A lot to be said for mad scientists! Amazing stuff.

  • dude

    your a frikin genius

    props

  • woah!

I wouldn't want to run into you in a dark alley

  • im sorry that wasn't right but pretty funny

  • This is amazing! Mad scientist + thunder = FANTASTIC!!! How much did this machine cost you?

  • Awesome!!!!

  • why do he speak like that xD

    but nice coil

  • he speaks how he wants do

  • holy crap!

    5 stars

  • What do those gaps do? If the voltage gets to high it fills those gaps shorting the device to prevent it from destroying itself?

  • As he said, the safety gap across the charging choke protects it. The main gaps to the right in the diagram are part of the tesla coil operation. They fire when the tank capacitor voltage get high enough, ionizing the air inbetween, creating an almost short circuit path through the air. Then the current resonates between the primary capacitor/winding and the secondaries, in this temporary closed circuit. AFAIK

  • yeah...I just said that...You could have just said yes.

  • WOUW...Roger you know that this curcuit is just like the Meyers curcuit..

    Tesla was a genious..this rocks...

  • thank you so much! you're great!

  • You're the man :)

  • what can you use these tesla coils for?

  • Unfortunately, at this point the only thing these things can do is look cool. :(

  • can you aim the sparks at people you dont like???

  • what would happen if the whole thing gets wet till its turned on. for example someone would throw a waterbomb on it... no clever question, but i really want to know it.

  • probably some sort of mass short circuit bad things would happen, there would be a lot of corrosion in a brief period of time and it may vaporise some of the water.

  • Thanks! Allways wonder how they were made and how they work. Nice to see a run down of it.

  • Those sparks are not dangerous, right? Just watched The Prestige..

And they are affected by the earths magnet field etc?

  • the prestige is not a tesla coiling primer.

  • i like how you can see the diode tubes in the backround lit up!!

  • ahhh yeah!

    so shiny!!

  • i like the lighting in the background it suits it well. very nice coils Roger, how many millamps are on the input of this thing

  • wow!! love it this work

  • I don't know much about, but it looks a perfect Tesla coil. Cleanly constructed, solid and resourceful. The perfect shaped sparks "speaks" for it. Congrats, Roger! How much I would can made one!

  • Tem lingua presa ou travou a mandibula.

  • you are a classic

  • This guy looks like he's been electrocuted about 500 times.

  • LOL!

  • HOLY SHIT! SO BIG!?

  • Great work Roger! Awesome.

  • Thanks Roger. You are a Tesla legend.
