@centreself It is my preference for her to do that given that this is a video lesson. We have learned that doing that it makes the lesson more friendly to most of our viewers.
You know, I love doing shines, but most often I have the following experience: when I let go of the lady so we can both do some shines, I notice that the lady starts to feel uncomfortable. often she says she hardly know any shines. Of course I go back to partnerwork (and the lady looks relieved). Even more skilled ladies often don't like to do shines. How to deal with this, should I simply avoid shines?
@arjanioo - I always do a test, I'll let them go for half of an 8 count if they don't do any shines I'll bring them back into a cross-body lead, last thing you wanna do is outshine her figuratively and literally. When I pick them back up they appreciate the fact I'm aware of their skill and comfort level. I've seen too many guys who try to show off and leave the ladies just hanging there for 1/4 of the song. We have to complement their style and most importantly make sure they have fun.
@GOLDSEIYA Thanks for your reaction! I totally agree with you that we have to make sure the lady has fun. A good connection is (at least to me) the most important aspect of social dancing. I'll keep your test in mind the next time I go to the club, so I don't have to wait until the lady starts to feel uncomfortable ;)
@GOLDSEIYA you are a real gentelmen and I wish to dance only with guys like you! from the lady's point of view this is the best what you can do. regards.

@federman She has started working full-time as a Speech Language Pathologist. She still helps addicted2salsa behind the scenes, just not on camera for now. ;-)
