hey, i saw your pic! nice job! and i was wondering if it the camera came with a lense, because i found the same camera online and you just get the body.
They're now giving away the old 5d as the prize again (see their website) or the $2000. It would make sense to take the $2000 as an original 5d is $1250 on BH.
I would assume it's because they are waiting until they have enough entries... $2000 / $5ea = 400 entries... And that's not to assume this is "non-profit." So they may wait until they have 500+ entries before they choose a winner..
We'll find out if it's real when I win Mwuuhahaha.
Just kidding, good luck everyone. I think the idea of the contest makes sense as long as the camera or money is being given away it's cool. I haven't heard of anybody winning and not getting their prize.
If you buy the 5D Mk II Kit then you get a kit lens, otherwise you buy just the camera body and get lenses elsewhere. I bought the Canon L Series 70-200 f4.0 lens to go with it for now, plan on a macro lens in the future. Thanks for asking!
Some people just choose to be negative, skeptics, and other words I will not use right now. I, for one, acknowledge that the contest is legit and entered an image in the most recent finished contest. Currently contemplating entering again... Probably will.
Congrats! Your photography is fantastic! You certainly deserved to win.
The only problem I have with Studio 414 is that they constantly push the contest back, further and further. I understand why, as I have read the rules but it's still a little frustrating. I have entered though and hope to win!
Congratulations to CW - nice photos and thank you for sharing the video.
Only thing I would add - although great photography on the Studio 414 Winners' Gallery, would be nice to see NEW winners and additional "honorable mentions" for each contest (did not see anything posted for March contest :-)
Thanks a lot terphands, sorry for the late reply. I'm not really experienced in the "field" yet so I don't have a whole lot of wisdom other than keep shooting anything and everything, learn constantly, and keep having fun with it.
Where's this camera this kid is bragging about? You think he would be showing it off in this testimonial. And which photo is the winner... no mention of that at all. A young kid excited about winning a photog contest, yet NO mention of what the winning pic is. Yeah, you can go to the website and see a photo, but why doesn't this kid describe it or know the name of it? The one thing he does know, though, is that he had to keep trying for six months, at 8 bucks a pop!
I didn't feel the need t mention my winning photograph because it's clearly visible on the contest website, my photography website, and my Flickr photostream.
How do you propose I show the camera that was taking this video? I could've ripped my bathroom mirror off the wall but then I'd be accused of making a computer-generated camera or something else to perpetuate the bogus claims.
I've only been so direct because I've had conversations over the phone with Studio 414's owner, Jessica Mealey, about how many people outright believe that the contest is a scam. I've even received emails from strangers asking me whether it can be trusted. Her name and studio phone number are on her website so if you really feel compelled to get to the bottom of it why not call and see if Studio 414 actually exists? It's even backed by the Better Business Bureau at the top of the contest site.
Come on people... all you have to do is google Studio 414 and there are so many scam pages associated with it that they come up first... Really?! is this "testimonial" supposed to prove anything... at times it seems he's reading from a card... probably the scam operator himself!
A simple google search only brings up those "scam" results because people talk about it as if it's a scam. If you just look at the website it is approved by the Better Business Bureau, Jessica Mealey's [the owner] name, address, and work number are given, the rights to any entry remain with the photographer, and the winners have their own websites/photos that would be really hard to fake. Everyone assumes it's guilty until proven innocent and it only perpetuates these incorrect comments.

I've just now found out about 414's site, and I've entered into the newest contest. We shall see if I win, if not it was still fun.

No they don't say how many total entries there are, or at least I wasn't told, but I wouldn't expect to be either.

so i have a question for you.....this is probably a dumb question, :-)
so the camara doesn't come with the lens's does it? you have to buy thoughs?
and if you do, do you now what the cost for the lens's are?
Thanks!
(and wish me luck on winning!)
CrazyCountryGirl25 2 years ago
no lenses. that would be too overly expensive. its already a $2,700 camera. lenses at usually $200+
expensive, but worth it when photography's your life.

But that persistence and effort paid off with a fantastic camera. As far as not seeing the camera goes; that camera was being used to film the video.

The drawn-out nature of that response makes me doubt the validity of this video more than the video itself.
A "contestant" wouldn't normally be so concise and direct with this defense of Studio 414, eh?
And why didn't you actually SHOW us the camera in the video? That would have obviously been nice, eh?
