@Txurniul, Originally I had thought that it was pronounced 'noʊm' though I had learned that it was ɡˈnoʊm. Either way, technically both pronunciations would be correct. I believe that the reason why the G is loud is because GNOME is an Acronym for GNU Network Object Model Environment.
I have been looking everywhere for help and you are the one that I could understand and not get lost or bored. This is my first linux and I have been using windows the last 12yrs and still damn.
I have 2 Netbooks and on one of them I have installed Linux Mint 9 Gnome edition which I am pleased with. But on the other one I tried Linux Mint 9 KDE and I was very disappointed with this. As first of all my built in mic did not work and I got this absurd message saying I am starting without admin privileges and could not install software. And there was no way to change the settings. There was just too many problems with KDE. A waste of time, get Linux Mint Gnome instead. Andrea.
@andrea22borman Yeah, I have had issues with the KDE version. I just stick with Gnome as I feel most comfortable with it. I just used KDE as an example install with the virtual box. At any rate, there is some hardware that is not yet supported or requires some tweaking. The new kernels have more drivers and support, so Mint 10 may work better. They are also getting ready to revert back to the Stable Kernel Stack with the testing stack. Thus the LTS kernels will be updated with Drivers.
So I am not the only one who has had problems with Linux Mint KDE? I have tried KDE several times, uninstalling it and re installing it again. But when one problem disapears another one apears with this brand. Linux Mint KDE is definently not like Linux Mint 9 Gnome or 10 Julia, also Gnome. And it is not user friendly either. Andrea.
@andrea22borman Yeah, there are some who prefer KDE do to the eye candy and all. Though KDE doesn't seem as stable as Gnome or Xfce. Linux Mint uses Gnome as the Default so all of the effort goes into the Gnome Edition, so I think that maybe one of the reasons why. At any rate, I alway go back to Gnome myself.
@andrea22borman All you had to do was stick with windows, and those problems would not of happened to begin with. Why mess with perfection. Windows is perfection. Windows is the internet! It rocks, no need to replace it. It is internet explorer that crash"s. Do like me use Google Chrome as a browser.
Okay, and what is your point? In reality Linux is not trying to overthrow windows in the Desktop realm. It is true that Windows in dominate on the Desktop PC, but it is much different in concerns with the Mainframes, Supercomputer, Servers, and Embedded Devices. It is good that you like windows and seem to be a Fanboy when it comes to that particular OS, but do try to understand that we all have the freedom to choose what we would like to use. Heck even MS uses Linux.
Uh... What about pronouncing it as "Noh-m" not "Guh-noh-m"
Ha just saying

Well, what attracted me to Linux Mint 9 KDE was the attractive blue theme but the operating system is not so attractive. Andrea.

@HitlerParodyGR I agree, I have no trouble with windows 7. It was internet explorer that was always crashing. I use Google Chrome.
