  • can't wait for this

  • Showing my nerd...it has the deleted scene where C3PO is ripping the warning sticker off the door, of the room filled with Wampas...that later attack some Snowtroopers.

  • I can't wait for this to come out!

  • much less bad than the earlier teasers.

  • whats up with darth vaders blue lightsaber

  • i have the limited edition 2004 remastered trilogy omfg yessssssss

  • This was my favorite Star Wars movie :)

  • brilliant.

  • Just watched the original Star Wars teaser trailer - it's amazing how much more sophisticated this one is over that, which was basically crap. This one was excellent, even holds up today and a lot of trailers from 1980 era don't.

I must have seen this trailer when it was out, though I don't specifically remember it, but I probably all but lost my mind when I did.

  • @bluechao youre not wrong sir, this was class!

  • Hmm, are you sure that this is the '79 trailer? The first Coming Soon trailer was released in '79, but this looks like a trailer probably being run in 1980 while The Empire Strikes Back was already in theatres.

I saw the Coming Soon trailer in '79 when I went to see Star Trek: The Motion Picture, and though that was a long time ago, that '79 trailer seemed a little different than this one.

Anyway, I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that this is a 1980 trailer being shown AFTER TESB premired

  • Was it me, or was that trailer made up solely of explosions?

  • Bravo!

  • Billy Dee..Billy Dee..Billy Dee!!!!

  • Ahhh... the proper, awesome practical effects, hero and scale models and hand-rotoscoping. <3 <3 <3

  • The Best Chapter in the previously complete saga that is now ruined because of George Lucas and Jar Jar Binks.

  • @chevypillow247 If it wasn't for George Lucas there will be no Star Wars. Remember that.

  • I never saw the trailer to A New Hope, the Empire Strikes Back, or Return of the Jedi becuase I wasn't born until the 90s! This is great I finaly get to see the trailer!

  • @kiki95ism I was born in 76, and my parent, being poor and pretty young at the time, couldn't afford babysitting, so I was there with them when they saw A New Hope in the theaters (I was a really quiet baby) so I kinda missed the first one, and then again, kinda didn't. ;-P

  • that's a fantastic trailer, no need for the voiceover, either, it captures the excitement and explosiveness of the film.

  • it almost seems strange 2 1 like myself born after the trilogy was completed to think ppl actually reviewed the original trilogy as individual films and u know, reviewed it like they were any of the other films to come out in those years bcos...its Star Wars, its more than 3 films, more than a media franchise, it IS pop cult and American conciousness it changed all media forever

  • Iv yet 2 see the original trilogy as its original released version but i have seen the original trailers. Was Vader's sword blue in the actual movie, bcos its bluish/white here AND in the Star Wars/New Hope trailer

  • This trailer is 32 yeard old but it sti loock damm good

  • @xsf908 I'd say ahead of its time compared to other trailers of the era

  • NyQuil is Windsor, Ontario in chemical form....IT'S CLOSED CAPTIONING...

  • I go WTF everytime I see ,"I AM YOUR FATHER"..

  • I remeber how excited I was seeing this trailer for the first time back in 1980

  • I agree with oopopp. VERY NICE EFFECT LUCAS. But my question is does Harrison Ford work in 2 movies at the same time because he is in Star Wars and Indiana Jones?

  • @2246kid

it doesn't take as long as you think to shoot a movie, the average 2 hour long film usually has about 9 months to shoot, as well as that he'd be scheduled to go in on certain days, the films took about 2-3 years to make, but most of that is pre and post production, meaning he would have had more than enough time to work on both...

  • wow da war ich 1 jahr alt ;)

  • SCREW YOU LUCAS YOU MONEY GRUBBING PIECE OF DOGSHIT. You butchered the greatest trilogy in movie history once already and you going add salt to the wound by making all the films in 3D. I refuse to watch any movie wearing glasses and the character popping out at me. I am a purest of the orignal unaltered movies and if somethings not broken WHY THE HELL DO YOU WANT TO TINKER WITH IT. 3D SUCKS!!!!

  • @PJSkins26 AGREED

    EVERYONE BOYCOTT STARWARS 3D

let's not give that bastard any more money

  • @PJSkins26 Objectively, Godfather trilogy is the greatest of all-time despite the bad #3. He mess up this great trilogy. The films were technically (film technique and VFX-wise) flawed so it would be the correct thing to fix those errors (Go-motion has no motion blur, CGI can blur).

I simply don't understand the "purist" or "apologist" position to these things. If you have the original vhs then convert it to DVD and ignore the new versions. Bashing them because of an effort to fix them is

  • Continued...wrong. (That isn't to say I approve of 3-D)

It is also stupid to attack the man that brought you this joy in the first place. Without him this would not have been made. You must put things in perspective and not hate a man because he wants to change something he created and owns...it wouldn't be right for me to attack your creation because you wanted to change it.

He did go too far, only needed updated the effects and color correction, but I won't begrudge his right or insult him.

  • Lando sucks.

  • Ohioans 'R' Us =)

  • This is so awesome! Was born in '79 so wasnt around to appreciate Empire at release.. Saw Jedi when I was 4 though and remember being scared shitless by the emperor. Love it!

  • @cobrakai84

Me too! Only saw it for the first time on ITV back in...I think it was '87.

  • Oh yes!!! I just love this

  • starwars is badass!!!! startrek is lame and gay no wonder lego said star trek is fake and starwars lego said yea starwars is real!!!!!who agrees

  • I just watched this trailer and even though I've probably seen Empire nearly 100 times, I still nearly wet my pants from excitement!

  • Somebody at the time had been watching the way Richard Donner edited his Superman.

  • now THAT is a trailer

  • This really must've blown people's minds back then. There was no internet to spoil anyone.

  • 1979? God, those movies are 30 years old?

  • LOL C-3PO Ripped a warning sticker off the wall!

  • (1980) Epic ...

  • lol... seems as though they used Fx Lightsabers that you can buy in stores... :) compared to episode III

  • youve just made my day.

  • Comment removed

  • I can just imagine being a kid in 1979 and seeing this the first time. The year wait was probably unbearable.

  • Fuccck! I'm sorry but i LOVE LOVE LOVE that tile effect they use to introduce the characters!!!! And the pics used for Luke, Han, and Leia are sooooo fuckin BADASS!!

THIS is how trailers should be made!! It doesn't ruin anything, but boy does it make you wanna see it!! The fact that the imperial march music is in the background doesn't hurt either.

  • I remember seeing this at the drive in in 1979 when Up in smoke came out. . I was like 5.

  • I love this trailer! They figured out that people like two things about Star Wars most of all:

    * the characters. Everyone loves Han Solo, Princess Leia and C3P-0. This is very different from the prequel films, where none of them had really defined personalities, but I digress.

    * The music! What incredible, awe-inspiring music was composed for this movie!

  • Saw it in the theater opening day 21 May 1980, 10 years old, maximum impact!

  • they way they introduce the characters is wicked.

  • Best Movie Trailer EVER. The fact that none of the characters say anything and the flying strips coming to form the character's face makes this Trailer really dramatic and film noir and shit

  • I remember I saw this Trailer on the Original Star Wars VHS

  • The oldest memory I have is of watching in the theater the taun taun sprinting across the snow in Hoth. Not sure if this was the first movie I ever went to, but it is the first I can remember. I was nearly two years old. :D

  • The Empire Strikes Back was the first Star Wars movie I ever saw ... my Dad rented it ... and I did't want to watch it the cover looked weird ( The Empire Strikes Back poster art was almost scary but so beautifully) the next day I stayed home from school and watched it (nothing was ever on t.v back in the day) and I fell love ... mind you this was b4 the 97 Re-release so Star Wars was a gen step off 4 me I was born in 84 so Jedi was 83 so missed it but I still love this movie

  • This is one of my favorite movie.

  • The New Chapter in the continuing Star Wars Saga. Is now in our galxay.... Updated promo. The Best Chapter in the now complete Star Wars Saga is now celebrating it's 30th anniversary.

  • I still remember seeing this trailer for the first time... my friend's dad toom us to see a re-release of Bedknobs & Broomsticks.. ghah!! after seeing this trailer.. my mind and heart were too excited for TESB to even pay much attention to B&B... lol god.. i was young!!!

  • I see that, like in the original Star Wars trailer, Darth Vader has a white light-sabre. They must have rushed these trailers out before the filming/special effects were finished.

  • Anyone notice a tiny clip of a deleted scene at 1:21? Isn't that from a deleted Hoth sequence were Threepio takes a warning sign off a door leading to a pen of captured Wampas, so that the Stormtrooper get killed?

  • yep i saw that. anyone got that scene

  • n0gar and sercicia are idiots

  • i agree with a lot of people the empire strikes back was and still is my favourite out of the lot and has the the best space sequence still till this stay the millenium falcon flying though them metoirs, even back then, how in the hell did they do that

  • IMO the best movie in the trilogy. Yes I said trilogy. The others didn't happen. They didn't I tell you! I can't hear you! LA LA LA LA...

  • @EKS511 haha thats exactly what I pretend. first 3 prequels are so bad, all I do while watching them is feel embarresed for being a star wars fan and wonder why I am not watching the originals lol.

  • I wasn't born yet, but I can just imagine all the kids in the theater jumping up and down with excitement at this trailer. "YES! When? When? How long do we have to wait?!"

    LOL

  • i cant believe that the animation in this movie has stood the test of time so well

  • Marbles, that's exactly what it was like. The original Star Wars (1977) was the biggest hit movie anyone had ever seen. People - especially kids - were dying to see the next episode. Everyone had to wait THREE YEARS for Empire Strikes Back.

Although there have been plenty of great films since then, nothing other than ET or Titanic has even come close to the energy surrounding the Star Wars films.

    I suddenly feel VERY old.

  • Brilliant no Bullshit CGI!!

  • haha all the lightsabers in this trailer are all the sticks they used!

  • i own the soundtrack!! what a kick ass trailer from an awesome film!!

  • What a classic , never gets old. These vintage trailers really take ya back.

  • Still the best movie out of the series. If the other Star War movies were made with the same high calibre as this one was, than the whole series of movies would not suck as they do now, except "Star Wars" the first one.

  • Are you saying episodes IV and VI suck? They might not be as good as episode V, but they're still awesome. And yes, exept for a few details, the prequels DID suck, big time.

  • Revenge of the Sith was ill! It also saved the prequels as Attack of the Clones was sloppy and kind of unprefessional in it's look. Maybe it's the city or Obi-Wan's clearly fake beard?

  • Well, I wouldn't call AOTC sloppy or unprofessional... but it *does* look different than any of its predecessors, as it was the first to be shot on digital, instead of film.

  • I was not talking about the other 3, just the prequels. AOTC look (not the digital look) is poorly acted and the fight scenes looked like they wer put together fast. No wonder why Lucas did not want to promote the film. As to that hater, I don't know what his problem is. Revenge of the Sith was a hot film.

  • My favourite trilogy of all time, and my favourite trailer of all time

  • very good

  • "whaaaaaaaaa!"

Cripes! What's going to happen to our heroes this time.

It looks like they are in serious trouble here.

Maybe we will have some new characters in the next four episodes.

  • best movie

  • Luke Thigh-Stalker.

  • trailers always use deleted scenes

  • So many parodies and no actual scenes without sub-titles. Why is that?

  • At 00:58 when Lando is running towards the buttons, isn't that also a deleted scene?

  • It also shows a deleted scene at 1:20. C3P0 pulling off the warning sticker to a room full of caged Wampa's. This was so that the snowtroopers would enter a slaughter.

  • One of the best trailers and one of the greatest sequels of all time.

  • One of the best movie trailers ever!

  • Well, its better that the first movie, but the next is better.

  • Return of the Jedi sucks

  • I believe he was referring to the trailer for Jedi being better than the trailers for the other films, not the film being better itself.

  • I think not!!!

  • Wow - makes you wanna run out and see it

  • It's interesting that they didn't have the Lightsaber effects in place here.
