I don't think AMG has a foundry, I'm not sure if they do their own castings or is sub contracted to some one outside, I don't work for them (I work for another german company). But if you ever decide to research anything about Manufacturing alloys in germany with German own business, you will see my point.
It's not necessarily the metals that needs to be rigid and strong. It can be in engineering. If we compare two similar functions using a higher grade (heavier built) metal and a lower grade (cheaper) metal, you may find that it doesn't matter the metals as long as its good enough. Some do require stronger metals however engineering can resolve that problem, perhaps even improve.
@heartlessvietboy All Alloys used in AMG engine components are top grade, made in Germany The Germans write the book of international standards in both aluminum and steel metallurgy.
@ivali100 Thanks mate, these 2 people are the god father of V8s. I mean GM's LS3 has the same displacements but can never go as high as the AMG's. Mind you the LS3 is OHV and AMG is DOHC.
And you know what's funny? These guys in Germany get paid below the average GM worker in the US, have less benefits but yet work for a profitable company in one of the most successful automobile division in the World.
There's definitely no Americans working in this facility, because than everything would just break apart and burn to ashes after the first hundred miles.
This "One Man, One Engine" philosophy means that the builder can UNDERSTAND his engine more deeply so there can be fewer defects because if the builder just does one thing, such as install the camshaft, then it'll be monotonous.
@aryaicom What do you mean by that??? When you mentioned that you wouldn't have gotten yours from those country, do you feel like the workers are negligent?
it won't be mercedes benz then.. personally me, I don't like Mercedes much, I like old W124, R129 and I like how W140 is driving, but nothing more... But Mercedes is an absolute precision about building high quality engines...
Interesting some crucial parts of this engine being assembly manualy. It feels like lovely heart

I think they should build an assemly plant in mexico and cambodia. It will help to reduce the cost of mercedes - benz - so that everyone can afford
Timx4 2 years ago
Mercedes should only be for those who can afford them. Anyone else would be a disgrace.

@ubernoob69 To be precise, Mercedes are meant to be for those who can afford AND can really drive them, anyone else would be a disgrace.

yep, especially, W220 - my friend was kinda upset with its reliability, so he went for classic W140 and R129
