  • cool vintage stuff.

  • Much better than the shit you get today.

  • Very nice sets, can you tell me the brand and model number on the TV`s at 0:48 and 1:45 ?That would be very nice.

  • 1:12 - 1:26 is exactly the same as the first color set our family had (at least, during my lifetime). It happens to be in the background in a couple of photos we had, but mostly with the drawers closed (cool feature). I still have the console (minus the tube), as we used it for years as a tv stand after the set died. I've been looking for this one for a long time!

  • I'm a big fan when it comes to vintage tvs.I started a collection too

  • The chorus on this song "Grazin' In The Grass" sounds especially good. In fact, this entire Happiness Is collection from Reader's Digest is my personal favorite collection of 60's songs. I have the original 9 LP collection.

  • That was great Chad! I loved it! I haven't seen a CTC-17X since 1981!

BTW, I have a video of my 1947 RCA 648PV in operation here on YouTube.

  • Wow I have an all solid state version of the GE TV at 1:31

  • Just did a bit of research on this tune, It was recorded on July 28, 1970 by the Joe Reisman orchestra and chorus for readers digest. It can be found on "Happyness Is" 9 LP set from RD. I always like these arragements from the "unknown" artists, which are normally found on RD albums.

  • Wow that's amazing you found out about this. I got this album when I was about 13yrs old and have been listening to it ever since. I'm not sure what happened to the outer cardboard album because the record was just loose in its paper sleeve. Somewhere though I do think I have another copy of "happiness is" along with a lot of other Readers' Digest multi-record albums.

  • Also, a lot of these orchestra leaders/arrangers like Joe Reisman, Henri Rene, Billy Strange, etc. which are on these records did the accompaniments for vocalists which were more well known. This arrangement sounds SO 60's but I guess in '70 there probably was a lot of 60's influence still remaining.

  • You're right about Reisman. You see his name all over the place as an arranger from 40's-early 80's. This is a great arrangement of grazin too. I have the RD set with this tune.

  • Great video chad! Nice work, enjoyed it much!

  • Thanks Doug, glad you liked it! I'll try and do some more.

  • Great stuff. The days of these receiving off the air are about over. It will be strange to have a converter box feeding these old sets!

  • Actually I am using the DTV converter boxes right now on these old sets and am actually getting better reception in my area.

  • I like this version of the grazing in the grass great tune.

  • Why is the a blue glow at the neck of the tube?

  • I think it may be a bad CRT...may have a small crack that has let air in.

  • Absolutely Awesome!!

  • Those are nice project you have! I'm diggin' Zenith TV with the radio. I knew someone that had a 19" RCA TV with a built-in Am/Fm radio.

  • Thanks! I now have that 19" Zenith TV with radio on top of the refrigerator in the kitchen.

  • Absolutely wonderful!!!

  • Thanks, it was fun to put together!

  • hey my cousin has a vintage battey operated tv! ill have to see if i can get it from him!

chad it looks like you have a fun job!

    *****

  • These are just my TV's that I repaired for fun...there are very, very few tube type TV's we have ever repaired for customers...as far as a business, most of the work is in jukebox, phonograph and organ repair.

  • 1:04 gave me the giggles.

  • Ha Ha! it does seem kind of funny putting it on that stand...This set needs a new CRT. It is now at the West building.

  • kick ass.i love vintage tvs.i've seen those zenith tvs with built in radio at flee markets before.

  • Thanks! I'll see if I can make another montage with the rest of the old TV photos.

  • Nice Montage - btw is that the Ray Coniff Singers?

  • Thanks! No, it's actually Joe Reisman's Orchestra and Chorus.

  • I've never heard this version before, it was originally a classic by the Friends of Distinction and Hugh Masekela where he first did as an instrumental song.

The song was later featured in a Disney film "The Lion King 1 1/2" where Raven Symone covered that song, I didn't like Raven's version of that song, but I stick with the two different versions of that song.

BTW, what album was this from?

  • This is from a Readers Digest 10-LP album of easy listening music.
