@HOMEnHIGH the chainsaw is not bullshit. I live in Australia and have seen Lyre Birds in the forest. They constantly mimick other noises, just anything that they hear - as demonstrated. There are many places here where rednecks deforest our countryside as quickly as they can. It would be very common for a Lyrebird to have heard a chainsaw. The cameraman may have taken more than a day to capture the bird performing like that.

@vjm3 Absolutely 100% real. I used to live near the Royal National Park, south of Sydney, and I've seen and heard these birds often. They impersonate other birds so well that birdwatchers are fooled by them, and I've even heard them impersonate the sound of a group of people talking - he probably had heard bushwalkers chatting while walking. There's a famous story of one impersonating a baby crying, and search parties went out looking for the "lost baby", until they found the bird instead.

It is 100 % real. I live in the dandenongs in Victoria , see these birds and hear them in the wild. You stand there and hear their full impersonation. Black cockatoos , yellow crested cockatoos , ravens , magpies , all the birds. The forest surrounds populated areas where their habitat is. Houses are amongst the forest , chainsaws , brushcutters and people are walking nearby all the time on the forest trails. It is amazing to hear in real life.

When I grew up, every Victorian kid knew about the lyrebird (not Lyre Bird!) and its ability to mimic anything. I heard it on three camping trips. If you're from somewhere else in Oz (or skipped that day at school), maybe you didn't hear about it.
