the song is ace, and full respect to the man for writing such a classic song in rock history...and respect is given here as he is much older and still playing.....but my god is he murdering this song!!!!!! i hope this message is not misunderstood.
Late August 2011 when I found this vid and it takes me back to Wednesday nights at The Purity or Boars Head in Oxford, '70-'72... One night between sets I asked Bill to play a tune he hadn't played for a couple or few weeks, "Peaceful World"...and he thought for a moment, shook his head and said he couldn't quite remember it. But he smiled that sheepish grin and it's so cool to see some things don't change!!! Your buddy for eternity, Mitch (and HEY to Steve Walmsley too!)
@champsinger Yes, fool, I see. Aging allows Bartlett to be around to enjoy the fact that his song is now an epic worldwide Rock anthem. It allows him the chance to answer the call of many fans recently to perform this great tune after many years of boogie piano and other activities. It allows for the fact that he didn't become a fucking overdose statistic. Let's see you do what you did 35 years ago (if anything) with the same sharpness. Idiot.
YO BRO,YOU OUGHT NOT COMMENT ON GUITARS IF YOU CANNOT IDENTIFY THEM.LOOK REAL GOOD AT BARLETT'S FENDER,THEN GO DRAW UP BB KING'S (THE THRILL IS GONE) AND THE KING DOES AND,PLAY HIS FENDER,WITH THE NAME FENDER ON HIS GUITAR AS WELL AS HIS NAME IS CLEARLY IDENTIFIED.GOOD LUCK WITH THAT.OH YA KNOW UR FACTS B4 YOU OPEN UR FLAPS LOLOLOLOLOL DEEP DUMMY. TRIBUTE TO (REDD FOXX) THE (DEEP DUMMY) PART, HE USE TO LAMONT HIS SON DEEP DUMMY ALL THE TIME HAG1 PEACE OUT
@grenooch Bill's guitar was NOT built by Fender. But, I digress...I shall adhere to the following: Go forth from the simple man when thou perceive in him not the lips of knowledge.
@lespaul4 I remember it well ...driving to Oxford from Indiana, hoping not to get carded, drinking 3.2 beer and listening to Starstruck, The Bell Jar and all the other bands that played at The Boar's Head. Good times!!
I was there..."The Boars Head" in 1973 when Starstruck used to play this song every show along with many others. I remember a lot of Allman Bros cover tunes also, a great band. Bartlett stood out, with masterful licks on his sunburst Les Paul, and lead vocals. Thanks Bill...you were truly an inspiration to this 17 year old farm boy. Check out my own videos at BBT Big Boy and the Toys on YouTube.
It's great to see Bartlet playing this after all these years. I used to go see him in Starstruck back in Oxford, Ohio, and on a good night he was a good a guitar player as anyone - bar none.
Here's Bill playing his classic for the first time in over two decades and burnin' it UP! He built the tele style guitar using a Warmoth body (curly maple top), neck (birdseye maple) and Joe Barden Danny Gatton designed pickups. By the way, Bill's inspiration for his version of Black Betty was Bettie Page!
A blistering show by Bartlett ! The audience had a great fucking time as well.

The only "off" thing I see/hear is the mix. Bill still smokes! (Loved this record when new - still do.)

Check out the book "25 Great Classic Rock Guitar Solos" by Dave Rubin. Great account of the Black Betty story.
