The supplemental bill simply ensures money for the scars of war at home and for the needs of the few coming months abroad, then it says we can no longer be there. there is a timeline in the bill, immediate withdrawal is ill-advised and not what the public wants. It may be supported in the polls, but understand the difference between public opinion and latent opinion, which is more important. Those agitators are uninformed and passionate but do not understand.

Um, Mr Obey, the war always has been illegal, on multiple accounts. The congress did not DECLARE a war, but only washed their hands of responsibility and gave "authorization", their blessing, but not the constitutionally required declaration of war. Basically what they said was, 'you want to do war, we won't try to stop you.' Each member of congress that voted in that resolution should resign in disgrace and work from the outside of congress to end this illegal, criminal war.
Also, since the war is in flagrant violation of international law, the crime against peace, the ultimate war crime from which all other war crimes are in this whole (to paraphrase one of the Nuremburg Judges), it is thusly also against the US constitution on this account as well. The US constitution reads that "all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land;"
Thus breaking treaties, such as those that make international law, also violate the US constitution. To repeat, Mr. Obey, the war is ALREADY illegal. Thing is, how do you arrest a president? He is extremely popular his district. In fact, he's been elected every two years since 1969.
As a ranking member on his committee, he is likely to get political contributions. While you may be right about the money you cite, you have to be honest and admit that the money is always spent in the campaigns. It's not as if he is personally enriched.

i honestly can understand the mom. yes, i never served in the military, but my sister has along with a brother in law and a couple close friends. they had to serve their tour and well, after going they didnt want to return but they had no choice but to go on yet another tour. my sis had to spend extra time after her term was up because she had to wait for her medical discharge. we spend billions for the war yet cant afford to pay for their medical expenses caused from it?

My son is 80% disabled from this war and the military wanted to send him back for a third time after he was already honorably discharged. Now you may keep sending your son over there until he is dead, but I have a little more heart then you do. So call me when your son gets ready for his third tour, 80% combat disabled, and tell me what a great patriot you are as he is sent off to die because he can barely walk, has a brain injury from a mortar hit he took, and has experienced what war is.

The supplemental bill simply ensures money for the scars of war at home and for the needs of the few coming months abroad, then it says we can no longer be there. there is a timeline in the bill, immediate withdrawal is ill-advised and not what the public wants. It may be supported in the polls, but understand the difference between public opinion and latent opinion, which is more important. This is just the games played at the top. These people do not work for us! They work for themselves and self interests. If they do not have the votes to pass a measure that defunds the war, then how does that represent the people. Doesn't that mean the people do not want to cut and run? Instead, we know that they threw so much pork in a bill that forced other reps to vote yes. I say those that voted yes are cowards and sellouts.

The figures you quote are misleading. Yes, we have less deaths but in contrast we have MUCH MORE brain Injuries, PTSD, Lost Arms & Legs because of our advanced medicine. My nephew lost his BOTH is Legs, an Arm & half his face (not to mention the brain damage) from a IED.
Everyone else in the vehicle was killed.

roger: Clinton didn't put us into a war. Bush (and here, plz see the Cincinnati speech, oct 8 2002) cherry-picked and/or ineptly evaluated intel, and then persuaded the congress to go along. People in general were frightened and Bush took advantage of it in the service of the neo-con agenda.

What I am saying is, some single, revealing piece of intelligence must have appeared early in the Bush administration, somehow unavailable to Clinton, and somehow kept secret from Clinton holdover George Tenet, as well as the NSA crew and the entire world-- in order for the "Bush Lied" conspiracy theory to be true.

roger: Clinton saw danger and ordered up air strikes, to some extent an indication that he couldn't be sure what he was looking at; i.e., it was a moderate response. Bush was _unquestionably_ selective in what intel he reported. His 10/22/02 cincy speech was _unquestionably_ fear-mongering. It was the unwavering hubris and the groupthink of the neocon group, during which the goal justified distorting the intel to suit it.

He ordered up air strikes because he didn't know what he was looking at? Is not not preemption? Air strikes against an unknown target for unknown reasons is hardly moderation.
And this does not begin to explain Hillary's varied positions. The idea of a moderate response based on uncertainty, yet supporting the war flies in the face of reason.
You cannot separate Hillary's positions from her connection with Bill, and his inside knowledge of matters.

Cutting off funding isn't going to do it. Quite possibly the only chance America has to save face is to impeach the president and force him to withdraw troops under threat of removal from office. Unfortunately, Congress is to weak right now to get the job done.

Obey is an asshole. Congress needs to put forth a bill to cut off spending for the war completely. They control the purse strings. I don't give a shit if they have the votes or not it needs to go up and a vote should be held. Let's see who wants to keep this war going and who wants to end it. This supplemental bill Obey is offereing will do nothing. The timetable the supplemental offers is a joke.

regardless of who is "right" or "wrong" here (and i assure you obey knows he's lying to this woman about the supplemental funding bill) you don't treat a person like that, especially if you are a congressman talking to a citizen, especially if that citizen is the mother of a marine who's been seriously injured by this war. obey issued an apology on his website, but i don't think it's good enough.

Um, Mr Obey, the war always has been illegal, on multiple accounts. The congress did not DECLARE a war, but only washed their hands of responsibility and gave "authorization", their blessing, but not the constitutionally required declaration of war. Basically what they said was, 'you want to do war, we won't try to stop you.' Each member of congress that voted in that resolution should resign in disgrace and work from the outside of congress to end this illegal, criminal war.

Sure, this war is illegal. Article I, Section VIII of the Constitution calls for Congress to declare a war. This hasn't been done, so the war is illegal. Period. End of Sentence. We know that GOPers were screaming "rule of law" during the Zippergate, but when the shoe is on the other foot...
